It could have been better with a lot more world building but it was ok for it was made just for kids. Unlike 2016 Ghostbusters which was weird. And I went and seen it in the Theater and I hated it.

I unfortunately have tried to get a bunch of damn zoomers or whatever the recent generation is called to watch older movies, and because they were old they refused to watch them. It's like they've been conditioned to have bad taste.
It's like trying to get kids to eat their veggies. Starting out, they hate pretty much anything that isn't dino nuggets, spaghettio's and nesquik, but will eventually learn to appreciate, say, a nice endive salad, or a veggie confit all on their own. Tastes change as you grow up, after all.
But for me, the older films that I really enjoyed were the ones that my dad was also really enthusiastic about. I remember being a little kid and asking him what Star Wars was, and he was like "You wanna talk about Star Wars? I've been *dying* to talk about Star Wars! Alright, so, get this: A long time ago, in a galaxy far away.." It was like that every time he introduced my siblings and me to the stuff he grew up with. Everything from Tolkien, to DnD and Marvel Comics, to Toho Godzilla movies (we had just about every single one on VHS), it was his enthusiasm that drew us in, and the quality then did the rest.
I am a zoomer myself and I have freind who are zoomers and we love older films and tv shows.
The youngest generation are barely into their teens. I'm not surprised.

Renegade cut was one of those people out of the channel awesome group like Lindsey elliis (back then the nostalgia chick) that has a lot of video and film theory essays but eventually he got to a point where he basically got very political for no reason in his film critiques. It was strange when he did a whole video about how Donald trump understood citizen Kane as a mark on his politics, not saying I'm for it trump, but he started giving really wierd film takes.
This was one of them where he tried presenting his ideas as factual when he provides very little, if anything to believe him.
Smudcast watched a video where he got TDS so bad that he fled to South Korea and parts of Europe near Serbia to be an English teacher and got indoctrinated into their various communist cults that they have on campuses.
Yeah I sometimes watched his videos back in the day before he went nuts. I used to always wait for a while and binge numerous reviews from channels like his, and suddenly one day after a wait I was binging a few and they were all full of such political irrelevant nonsense.

Funny thing is that they left in the scene but removed the context.
As terrible as this movie was, it was made a thousand times worse for me personally due to everything that happened behind the scenes which culminated in this dumpster fire. In fact, I'd say that the behind the scenes troubles are WORSE than the actual film because the corporate meddling in Sony just disgusted me so much.
Sony sat on this franchise for years and it wasn't until the success of the 2009 game that they got interested in making another film, but here's the catch: They (mainly Amy Pascal) didn't want Ivan Reitman to direct what was going to be the third movie, so they continued to hold out on getting the production started. Then, after Harold Ramis passed away, Reitman stepped down from his position as a producer/director out of grief over the loss of his dear friend, and everyone pretty much gave up on another Ghostbusters movie at that point. Well, everyone except for Sony, which descended on the franchise like a goddamn vulture because all control over the next GB project was given over to them when Reitman stepped down. Midnight's Edge has a lot of great videos that went in-depth about all of this.
Sometimes I wish that the 2009 Video Game wasn't as much of a success for the sole reason that it got Sony interested in making more movies, and NOTHING was going to stop them. Now look at the state of the Ghostbusters almost 15 years after the game's release. It's truly tragic.
At least we finally solved the mystery of the 86%. We now know that Disney was paying people off for positive reviews.

As a woman, I just want to say how sorry I am for this movie’s existence. I find it extremely insulting and irritating how unfunny those four women were and how they put down the only man in the movie in the name of “feminism.” It makes all women look bad.
Don't apologize, there are plenty of 'modern men' who helped make this thing happen. We are all at fault as a species for producing it. I'm sure it has been broadcast at some point so we should be telling any alien civilization that detects it we are sorry. They may avoid first contact because of it.

I used to know Renegade Cut guy (not personally), when he and 2 of his friends made a podcast for the gaming off-shoot of Nostalgia Critic's website. He was mentally deteriorating fast, from eating too many blue pills. He mentioned that he hates children, that he hates body hair (so he shaved all of his off), and how he hates masculine bodies (do he made sure he is out of shape and slightly fat). He was also having problems with his girlfriend (I wonder why). He used to be somewhat cool once, but he is probably completely insane now.

I found him through the now deleted video, Ugly Blocks of Nothing, where he quite properly showed that Minecraft on its own is not that great of a game, and it was the community that made it great (without said community, other similar games are better). He mentioned both Minecraft's limitations, and how the game (used to) tell you almost nothing about how to play it.

I only ever watched the EFAP-movies of Ghostbuster 2016. And I wanted my fucking money back, despite not having paid anything for it, it is that goddamn painful.
What tiny bit of respect I had for Dug Walker went down the toilet when he chilled for this thing. And how anyone could ever defend this terrible, terrible movie baffles my mind, when I couldn’t even stomach watching a cut up reaction to it.
Likewise, my respect for James Rolfe went up when he said he wouldn't even review it.
I’m just in a negative mood right now, because YMS dropped his stream cut of him watching Critical Drinkers movie trailer, and now everyone in my friends discord is saying he’s a right wing grifter, when he can’t be a grifter, he made a f*cking movie, and he’s about as “right wing” as my black, weed smoking coworkers, because he’s annoyed at “the message”.

I used to watch this guy's videos. For some reason he believed that Martin Sheen's character called in the "Almighty" air strike at the end of Apocalypse Now, instead of just turning off the radio and leaving with What's-His-Fuck. He saw some rising smoke as the boat leaves and believed it was the result of that air strike... which I guess he assumed happened off screen.
That's not why I stopped watching, though. He never replied to my comment (informing him about how wrong he was) on that one. But he did reply to some other comment I made on some other video of his. I don't even remember what it was. I just remember he was an instant and total dick about it. He doesn't like being challenged.
Now he just sensors every single negative comment on every video and blocks everyone.

I disagree with the EFAP crew on one point: this film will be viewed as representative of its time insofar as it begins a loosely associated series of attempts to recast typically male characters as female without feminizing the actions, motivations, and capabilities of those characters.
To be fair, they ARE feminized, in the most toxic, petty, high school fashion clique, bully girls into sewer slide, defame someone on twitter for SA victim points, sort of ways.

I'm glad Mauler brought up Transformers as an example of a shitty movie that made a lot of money and had no staying-power or people to defend it like Fembusters 2016. I'd argue that its sequel is an even bigger example, because it also made a lot of money, but even for defenders of the first movie, it's a hard movie to defend.

It's funny that in 15:20 Mauler brings out the strawman of "I hate it because of the color of their clothes" but that might actually be more legitimate criticism than "muh wimminz" when you discuss the messed up color grading of this film, or the costume design that tries to make them look "Ghostbustery" at the end.
I reluctantly saw this in theaters because of a group of friends wanting to go to the movies and it being out at the time. There was 7 of us, and the only one that said “that movie was great” was the person that suggested it. Everyone else questioned why we wasted our time and just punched holes through the film the rest of the day.
Ghostbusters comes out with Frozen Empire and Godzilla comes out with New Empire with in weeks of each other with shards of ice shards falling from the sky

I must disagree with the panel on one point: the movie would have been better off if it hadn't been called 'Ghostbusters.' Sure, the movie would not have been objectively better if it had been called 'Goul Girls,' but the audience wouldn't have had any reason to be angry at it. There would have been no backlash. It would have just been dismissed as a dumb knock-off/spoof movie (like that gar-girl-Spy movie the director did) and forgotten about by everyone except the few who actually enjoyed it...

Before Snyder Cut, before the Last of Us: The Last Jedi, before the Capt Marvel and...after the Sucker Punch, Ghost Busters 2016 was the most pathetic way for shillfluencers to pick a losing side.
If it’s for young girls that makes the lack of quality even more of a problem. Children deserve good media that they can grow with, rather than look back on their childhood favorites in disgust at how terrible it is. They should be able to get more out of the content as they age into the themes presented by media which respect them.

These highlights are actually quite good. Having these conversations edited down without the tangents from the regular show make referencing them much easier when I'm trying to recall a point.

2. It's already a good film. Why would they talk about it more? To make it more better?

The whole argument; "It wasn't made for you!" is not only irritating; it's also nonsensical in light of what this person said before; "Studios have to invest in known IP because films are expensive and studios are afraid of risk"! Because pissing off and alienating your core audience, your bild-up fan base isn't risky! 😂Kids don't give a damn about GB - just like they don't really care about most if not all hits from 80's & 90's - if they will become fans, it's because of new film, not because they were fans of the original. So, why this film need to be called Ghostbusters if it's not for original fans, what's the point? Guy in this video contradicted himself and I wish that EFAP crew would point this out !

EFAP was wrong about how Rotten Tomatoes works.
Any score of a 6 or higher goes to fresh, any score lower goes to rotten.
The 74% means 74% of critics gave it a 6 or higher. But even then, if 281 people give it a 6.2, and 99 people give it a 5.3, that doesn't make the movie critically acclaimed.
The same goes for viewer scores. 50% gave it a 6 or higher. Any person who went "meh, could be worse. 3/5 stars" went on the "fresh" pile.

At the end of the day, a few critics liked it, while the general audience didn't.
Every time one of those garbage reboots, remakes, rehashes comes out, the braindead defense I always hear is "oh, you only dislike it because of the association. It would be fine if it was separate!" And I never understand how it would fix the issue even if it was true. Taking a known IP is precisely because the idea on its own is so shit it would not sell on its own, so they use a known name to trick people into watching it. It would NOT be good on its own. If anything, nobody would even notice it released.

I love the fact that the people saying this movie is actually great if you watch the extended version are the same people that complain about the extended versions of LOTR. Lying saying the movie has like 6 endings and yet want 15 more minutes of Mike Hat and queef jokes.......Each.

I like that slap/whip crack sound for censoring, good choice! A lot of channels use a fake duck quack sound to censor swears, and while it's better than a loud beep, it's still a bit jarring. There's some good comedy potential with it too; for some reason, it makes me imagine a quarter falling out of the Discord avatars into a swear jar. 😂
I was just about to comment how the slap sound effect is terrible. Just muting would be better than this slap sound. Hell, even the classic bleep is less annoying because it's associated with censorship. This slap comes out of nowhere and sounds pretty shitty.
Half the time the slap doesn't even get played over someone talking, there were a bunch of times when Mauler finished his sentence then a random slap noise happened for no reason

I hate this movie so much. It’s done so much harm to cinema as a whole. It’s done a lot of damage to Hollywood because all they do now is attack the fans whom they rely on to get paid. Smart move idiots. Attack the people whom pay you. Also this move started the all female trend of destroying legacy hero’s. And it’s gotten old, it’s about as interesting as the damsel in distress trope. If they just made good entertainment and started acting like adults and not children who hate all of us then they’d probably make money again.

I unironically enjoy the third transformers. I don't think it's a good film, but i just love that it goes WAY harder than it has to. Like, obviously, Micheal Bay just wanted to make a shredder film but was tied to his transformers contract. It just makes me so happy to see giant robots literally tear each other apart and watch the attempts at robot gore. It's hilarious and incredible.

Oh, I absolutely love the Samuri Jack series. I was still in elementary school when that and the tarkosvkey Star Wars mini series came out. They were very formative for my taste in media that's for sure.

When you compare this to Metacritic, which is generally less egregious and uses an arguably better system of averaging actual scores, their scores becomes 60/100 for critics and 27/100 for audiences. It's also one of the most prominent examples of critical opinion diverging from that of the public and it's worth examining why.
Given the context of the questionable decisions made by RT, as well as the numerous editorials and reports that attached a feminist political context to the movie's reception, I think it's reasonable to conclude that it's at least possible that critics came to believe that defending the film was an act of political significance, regardless of quality. Even if you refuse to believe that, the absolute best the film could be is a mediocre cash-grab. What then is the point of coming to such a film's defense if not as an act of political significance?
By defending it in this way, Renegade, being a film critic himself, only proves the allegations that critics are politically compromised to the point of disregarding quality in favor of satisfying their own political ends. That he does so in such a hateful, ignorant, and reductive way is just the cherry on top. I'm so tired of leftist art critics.

Of all the movies to torch your reputation to defend, this one is probably the least worthy. It was an obvious, BLATANT cash grab gender bend "sequel" to a cult franchise.

So, about the "it wasn't made for you" argument: I don't remember which one of the guys in the video here said it, but they remarked that even if something wasn't "made for you", you can still recognize the quality of it.

It's "not for me" because I dislike the style of it (I will grant that I'm honestly judging a book by its cover but I really don't care), but I don't trash it, because I've seen my friends gush about the great storytelling and lore in it so much that I must concede it *has* to be quality content, so I respect it and the people who love it.
Yeah, it's not as cut and dry as people like Renegade would like to think. It's entirely possible for people to like something that wasn't "made for them", and for people to not like something that supposedly was.
Maybe a weird example, but both Rags and I like some of the Barbie animated movies. Those movies are made for young girls, definitely not for us; but they're just fun films with some surprisingly decent writing that we can enjoy.
And on the other side of that coin, a lot of Christian movies like Facing the Giants, Old Fashioned, God's Not Dead, War Room, Courageous... speaking as a Christian, and thus someone within their target demographic: they're mostly bad. Them being "made for me" doesn't automatically make them good or mean I like them.
