    An American bobbin chair is my guess but I have a question. I have an older, thrifted couch that I love. It’s great structurally, but I NEED to recover it. It’s an old 90’s sofa with really light fabric and I’ve got 4 kids so it’s looking gross and was already out of style. My problem is it has these huge styled piping that’s around the arms and bottom. I’ve never done anything like this so I thought I’d ask the experts before tackling it. Can I remove the piping and recover fairly easily, or will it need restructuring along the arms? Thanks!

    Unfortunately I have one cushion on my couch, a back cushion that is attached and NO zipper. All the foam is at the bottom. The rest of the sectional is perfect. Just this one sagging cushion at the end.

    Will you please tell me how or do a video on how to stuff a sagging cushion that’s attached to the back of a sectional sofa ? I don’t know where to cut it open? I can hand sew, a tight wrap around stitch but I don’t want it to unravel and a for a hole to form. Should I fabric glue a patch over the seam? We just got a new big sectional sofa in January and fat cat and other cat lay together on a matching charcoal grey towel that I put down, so that I can wash it, somehow they know that it’s there for them to lay on, but it’s all dented in now. Please help?

      Hello Diana,
      Thank you very much for watching our video. Yeah, that's a real problem, first if you haven't already check to make sure that there's no zipper at the bottom. If there is no zipper, then yes you will need to cut open the cover and hand sew it closed. I would lay the sofa on it's back and standing over top of it with top of the sofa at the base of your feet. Reach over the inside back at your feet and get the bottom of the seam of the attached back cushion. The seam closest to the inside back and open that seam up. It will be very tight and you will have struggle pulling the insert out of that one seam that you opened. A word to the wise, when you put more poly-fil in the insert it will be even more of a challenge to put back in, but it can be done. Follow the instructions in the video and you should be fine after you hand sew it closed. I wish they would stop making attached back cushion we get loads of complaints about them, people get fed up and throw into a landfill. Here is an older video we did on the same subject.
      czcams.com/video/8WCuBBBkGzo/video.html I hope this has helped you, please share the video it helps us when you do. Cheers, Paul

      We really appreciate you watching our videos! Great question, the material that is used for your sofa a platform is called decking material. Hey there sister Sharon, that’s a good question try this video. It shows where to measure if you do not have a box cushion. I understand your cushion probably does not look like this. Meaning with the indentation in the center. But you would measure the whole cover seam too seam for ordering a solid foam insert. • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  Před 4 lety +2

      Here it goes😂😂😂
      Hello,
      First thank you for watching the video, glad it was a help. To your great question: I have had to deal with this question several times. To do any of the following steps removing the outside fabrics, you will need replacement upholstery tack strip (sometimes it can be reused if not to bent) or what is called metal ply grip or curve Ease. Depending on what your furniture has now.
      It depends on the construction of the furniture. It could be one of several different ways to remove the foam. 1) Maybe there's access from the bottom by removing the dust cover or bottom cover. There might be a zipper at the bottom of the seat platform from under neath. 2) Is going through the outside back, removing the fabric maybe there's access to remove the foam there.I would try the third last, it's a little more work. 3) Remove the outside back fabric as well as the outside fabrics on the sides (YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAKE THEM COMPLETELY OFF, BOTTOM AND SIDES ONLY, FLIP FABRIC UP OUT OF THE WAY). Remove the staples that hold down the platform fabric to the frame (the sides and the back of the platform). When the platform is loose go to the front of the sofa (or chair) and pull the cushions off the sofa. The cushions upside down there should access there.Replace cushions according to the video and reinstall in reverse order. WOW!! MAMMA- MIA. A lot of work RIGHT! Honestly I really wish they would STOP making this style. Most furniture can go for many more years if the cushions could just be replaced when needed, with ease. It's a lot of work so it can cost more then the sofa originally did. Or too much work for the average person so they are not interested in doing it. So it ends up in the landfill. I hope this has helped you to make a decision. Please consider sharing the videos, it helps us a lot when you do. All the best, Paul

      Once you watch that video you’ll be able to measure the foam inserts inside similar to what we do in this video: czcams.com/video/NEaNPbRQuCM/video.html
      In regards to the firmness of your cushions when ordering, 26 compression is soft, 35 compression is medium, and 45 compression is firm.

      Thank you for watching our video. You have a very common problem, however, it is not easy to walk you through it. We are in the process of trying to find furniture with attached backs to do a video on this subject. On to your question; some attached backs have a zipper at the bottom. Others you need to go through the bottom of the sofa removing the black fabric on the bottom of the sofa. Or others you may need to remove the outside back leather and there might be a zipper on the inside back where you can remove the insert to re-stuff it. If not the outside arms will need to be removed along with the outside back and the seats and/or the inside back cushions (whichever you want to replace) will need to be removed as well, as one unit, not an easy job. I honestly hope you have the first possibility. I hope this has helped you in some way. Please share the videos it helps to keep producing them in the future. All the best, Paul
