    This has been my most anticipated game since playing Shattered on the 1st Dread X Collection. The setting is wonderfully gothic, and its mechanics have a lot of room for extrapolation within the environments and quest designs. Though I've stayed away from the EA, as I've heard with each update new, game breaking bugs are introduced. Not that surprising, considering how difficult it is to design RPGs, doubly so coming from one dev.

    Absolutely love your videos, instant sub! I vibe very much with chilling in dungeons.
    Funnily enough, even though I have a rule to never buy any early access titles (looking at you Baldur's Gate 3...) in last 2 weeks I have bought... Lunacid and Dread Delusion. I got so invested in both I started going through YT wanting to listen to other's thoughts about them because frankly, I can't stop thinking about how good these games are. It was a pleasure hearing your thoughts!
    But, and I say it only because I am a big fan of the wobble, wobbly 3D is not really because of 32bit systems. It's mostly PS1 games that are being associated with this, and it's because PS1 GPU did not have a Z-Buffer, so it did not calculate the Z axis which is quite crucial in 3D. Said buffer had to be done in soft and PS1 did not work with floats either so the computations were far from perfect thus giving us the iconic wobble. It was probably even more complicated, but this is as far as I went. As much as I am a huge fan of it I think that in Dread Delusion it could be toned down slightly, there is A LOT of wobble. If one checks out, for example, Metal Gear Solid 1 or Vagrant Story, the effect is less prominent there I think. Or maybe it's due to the fact that DD's world feels more dense than most of real PS1 games as it is not dealing with the same hardware limitations. No clue honestly, I am no specialist so don't quote me on that :D
    Cheers!

      Whoa that’s a lot of information. Really interesting though. I never knew that about the Z axis. It makes a lot of sense. The 32 bit era is so fascinating to me because those consoles could just barely manage 3D but they did so much with so little.
      Anyway, glad you like the videos! And yeah, I can’t wait for DD and Lunacid to get full releases. I’ll be making more in-depth review videos on them whenever they do

      Yeah, I can't wait for both games to fully release. Both of them already have a surprising amount of polish. DD shines with the setting, mechanics-wise Lunacid is maybe slightly tighter, but also a different kind of game as well so the comparison might be out of place.

    Morrowing my arse. Bethesda would know how to create an open sandbox fps rpg game even if they were bought out by Black Isle....who kinda know what rpgs are about. This game already has more than most things I have played produced by Bethesda. Old school players might like Morrowind but after a while it turns out it is not better just different from the empty "wander around" games like Oblivion. Morrowind just has a ludicrous amount of stuff thrown together but often without any rhyme or reason. I am so glad this game exists because I have been waiting for Grvn for years.....and what a disappointment that was.

    • @dungeonchill
      @dungeonchill  Před 8 měsíci +4

      Texture warping was a problem on PS1. The console couldn’t display perspective correct textures, so developers cut up the textures and coded them to correspond with screen space which often resulted with the textures moving around when the camera changed, like in the clip of Cool Boarders 2 I showed. It happens in a lot of games when you play them on original hardware.

    • @vealck
      @vealck Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@dungeonchill Yes, it was, because PS1 had no floating point operations nor z-buffer. It has nothing to do with 32 bit processing. Hell, even Skyrim was 32 bit game until SE edition, no floating textures there, are there.

    • @dungeonchill
      @dungeonchill  Před 8 měsíci +6

      @@vealck But console eras used to be broken up by processor power. So the 32-bit era is PS1, Saturn, etc. I know that most game applications were 32-bit for a long time, but those wobbly textures are brought up a lot when people talk about the 32-bit era of gaming.
      And Dread Delusion is intentionally trying to mimic that imperfection. The first demo for it even came out on a download pack of other indie games called “Haunted PS1 Demo Disc.”
