Robert Plant was the best rock and roll lead singer ever. He had the range, the rasp, the grit, the howls. He never missed. He is rock and roll personified. And this is my fave channel to watch. So much respect for each other and the music.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You may already know, but Solo Robert Plant ~ Sea Of Love, Big Log, In The Mood, Heaven Knows, Little By Little, Tall Cool One, Ship Of Fools, 29 Palms, Like I Never Been Gone....!
This song is about a legalize pot rally that was held in Hyde Park, London. The title is a reference to the Misty Mountains in Tolkien's work. The musical construction happened while they were jamming and Jimmy found he had the opening to what would become this song; Jonesy helped work up the chords and chorus and they were off!
That's funny, I've never looked at what the lyrics mean. I thought it was about being rounded up and drafted for the Vietnam War. "so I'm packing my bags for the misty mountains".😆
Very fun(ny) fact: in the early 2000s a British rock station did a poll open to the public in order to determine who the greatest drummer, greatest guitarist, greatest bassist, and greatest singer was/is. Every single member of Led Zeppelin was voted #1 lmao.
I really love this song and always have. I don’t know why it stands out to me. Maybe the story about the hippies in the park, that’s what I remember of the late 60’s and early ‘70’s. We used to pick up hitchhikers, no problem, and we all share our pot, and actually shared time sitting around listening to music or out in the open at concerts.
You guys and Andy & Alex are the best, they too have some experience as young musicians and being in the music industry, they know what they are talking about as well. Great to see younger generations enjoying this forever music, welcome aboard!
Zep was always my favorite band simply for the musical variety, top-tier talent level at every instrument with stellar production value. Nothing they ever did was disappointing or uninteresting in the least. It's virtually impossible for a true Zeppelin fan to pick a favorite album, much less song.
You're right, but over the decades, II is the one that I'd put on first if given a choice, of course doing this with the understanding that I have 8 other great albums to listen to after.
The word, "patchouli", is in a song lyric, and I cannot place it. A very well-known song, but not Zeppelin. Do you know what I'm thinking of??? It's driving me bananas. lol
Just remembered it! On a morning from a Bogart movie In a country where they turn back time You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre Contemplating a crime She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running Like a watercolor in the rain Don't bother asking for explanations She'll just tell you that she came In the year of the cat She doesn't give you time for questions As she locks up your arm in hers And you follow 'till your sense of which direction Completely disappears By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls There's a hidden door she leads you to These days, she says, I feel my life Just like a river running through The year of the cat While she looks at you so cooly And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea *She comes in incense and patchouli* So you take her, to find what's waiting inside The year of the cat Well morning comes and you're still with her And the bus and the tourists are gone And you've thrown away your choice you've lost your ticket So you have to stay on But the drum-beat strains of the night remain In the rhythm of the newborn day You know sometime you're bound to leave her But for now you're going to stay In the year of the cat Year of the cat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You guys are great, I’ll say it again, genius to go through Zeppelin in order, when you’re done you’ll consider saying they are the greatest of all time, just wait, you’ll see
Imagine getting your 1st stereo at the age of 13. Then one of the 1st albums you buy is Zep 4. That was my introduction to Zep. Literally just a boy rocking my ass off. Every song was killer. Growing up in the 70's is difficult to explain. You just had to have lived it and to this day feel fortunate for that. Really enjoy your reactions and what you guys are doing.
The magic of Zeppelin was all 4 members contributing their own unique skills as 1 cohesive unit. Plant's magic voice, Jimmy's amazing guitar work, JPJ on the bass and keys (not this song I know) and he did a lot of the arrangements. Last but not least Bonzo's bombastic drumming, crunching us over the head with his devastating power. Best band ever!
I think this might be my favourite track on Zeppelin 4, there's so much going on here - great choice, an awesome reaction as always. Hard to beat starting the day off rocking like this. Peace and love from Canada!
Obnoxiously simple. Basically rudimentary. Takes no technical skills to play. But.... Holy crap does it just ooooze with slodgy, sluggy, chugging groove and swagger. It's so tasty that it's hard to comprehend how simple it is.
You guys are SOOOOO on a roll today... Steely Dan, ZZ Top, and Zepppelin... The guy in the next office says he can hear it through the wall, even with my headphones..Thanks as always... Glad you guys enjoy it as well...
I love Led Zeppelin! I’ve seen Robert Plant( lead singer) in concert 4 times. Led Zeppelin’s music interests were derived from their love of Deep South Black American Blues. They admired and listened to Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson and other artists. I love their music since the 1970’s . My favorite Led Zepp songs are, Since I’ve been loving you , When the Levy Breaks and Rain Song! I love them for life! The entire group are magnificent musicians and genius song writers!
Here's what's hard for people to understand nowadays... This music was commonly available then. Almost everybody was this good, or you would never hear them! This is the measuring stick to which I've listened to music for the last 50 years.
A perfect song and album, no downtime on #4, it's all good. Can't wait for Four Sticks next, the only cut on this album that did not get tons of radio play, it is a great deep cut and another Zeppelin classic. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Thx again for a great reaction guys!! Zeppelin just gets better from here on out in my opinion..I know all the albums and all the songs but can't wait to see you guys discover all of it! Shout out from the old metal head from Detroit..Peace and love as always..
Robert would say before the song was played live and in interviews: [It's a song about walking through the park in the days of flower power, smoking some weed (hey boy, do you wanna score ? It's about scoring on some weed), then the cops line em all up and bop em on their heads]. It's about the perils of just trying to be yourself with long hair (back in the day), hanging with friends publicly and having a good time - and the cops hassling you. The Misty Mountains are in The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings books by JRR Tolkein. "So, I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains - where the spirits soar -- over the hills, where the spirits fly..." It ends on an escapism theme. It's a great song. They played it live on their record breaking 1973 US Tour and then revived it again for both Knebworth shows in 1979, in August. There's live pro shot videos of it from 1973 and 1979.
There are two reasons why this is one of my all time favorite songs. 1) The groove is non stop, 2) part of the vocal is 3 against 4. Who knew a song about a drug bust could be so much fun?
My goodness, your reactions are so thoughtful. I'm listening every day now. There's nothing like Misty Mountain Hop. Robert Plant's vocals are so cool here.
As a musician I appreciate your comments because I know you two are musically inclined therefore I respect your opinions, interjections and conjectures more then most. I have been following you two and really enjoy all of your reactions because of the enthusiasm you both contribute and some new questions to old bands I find interesting. I have a question for both of you: As producers performers, musicians and music lovers I would like to know what you have personally taken away from your exposure to rock and roll heavy metal and other forms of music then what you prefer or have been exposed to personally or professionally?
Usually when I produce music it’s just a standard 8 bar hook, 16 bar verse and it just keeps repeating with that format. After doing these reactions I’m learning I do not have to follow that structure on every track I produce. I can just let the music lead me in the right direction and make music with no boundaries. Less robotic and more feeling to the music
Back in the '90s at a newspaper where I worked we'd interview visiting rock stars and such when they came to town and one question we'd ask was, what are you reading and why? Ace Frehley with Kiss said he was reading Lord of the Rings because he wanted to understand Led Zeppeling better.
Guys you’re treat and I am really enjoying your reactions. The only thing I would like to point out is these guys made these 4 albums just over 2 years…. Crazy
Great reaction channel. You guys honor the music by listening closely and making appropriate comments. Too many others try to make it about themselves. Keep it up.
Their "In Through the Out Door" album has some great tracks including "Fool in the Rain" and my favourite "I'm Gonna Crawl"! I'd strongly recommend you check those out.
Thanks for that. Misty Mountain Hop is the first non Steely Dan song I learned to drum to. My teacher didn't know zeps music but was instantly impressed by Bonham's playing, particularly the variations on the hi-hat accents (he kept saying "oh" and "ok"). Listen again to just the drums. 🙂👍
I don't recall this track getting a lot of airplay when the album came out, I might be wrong, but it has certainly found its way into Zep best of catalogue. When Heart covers it, it's good.
Legend has it, Bonzo had huge drumsticks. Cut down from Louisville sluggers, perhaps. Possibly Jackie Robinson 32" s (my favorite bat when I played in high school)
Here for it…love this one from beat 8…..definitely- let’s go Bono…yes!❤️🎼❤️vocally- Robert is using compression, open air,growling….but- it’s always in the right place. This is why Led Zep stands alone.❤️
Literally true. His left hand on the snare has an American "behind the beat" feel while the rest of his body is playing a more British "on the beat" style. Utterly unique and real bitch to replicate.
Love the reactions! Huge Zeppelin fan, you have to react to “Fool in the Rain” off In Through the Out Door. Greatest drum beat in history. You will love it!
I remember buying this album back in high school. They just kept getting better each time. Watching you guys hear these albums reminds me of my first time hearing them as a teen 50 odd years ago.
Robert Plant was the best rock and roll lead singer ever. He had the range, the rasp, the grit, the howls. He never missed. He is rock and roll personified.
And this is my fave channel to watch. So much respect for each other and the music.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

You may already know, but Solo Robert Plant ~ Sea Of Love, Big Log, In The Mood, Heaven Knows, Little By Little,
Tall Cool One, Ship Of Fools, 29 Palms, Like I Never Been Gone....!
Led Zeppelin opened the door when they started, then slammed it closed when they left.
Love that!

If you're thinking they're outside of the box now....wait until the next 2 albums...great work, gentlemen.
"Physical Graffiti," especially the second disc, is outside the damn VAULT! (In more ways than one, I guess)
Both great, but THIS album right here, IV, is peak Zep, containing their most consistently high quality material.

Morning, afternoon and evening. They're super smart and chill!!
Ditto
I also like that intro music they have. Very brief , but soooo clear and chill!
This channel is all about the music rather than presenter ego, Well done guys!
Thank you so much!!
Four master musicians where you can hear each member playing and yet hear them all at once in unison is out of this world.
Bonzo just lays down a filthy groove 🔥. It’s great watching you guys react because you guys know your shit!!
I really love this song and always have. I don’t know why it stands out to me. Maybe the story about the hippies in the park, that’s what I remember of the late 60’s and early ‘70’s. Just remembered it!
On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime
She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolor in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the year of the cat
She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears
By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls
There's a hidden door she leads you to
These days, she says, I feel my life
Just like a river running through
The year of the cat
While she looks at you so cooly
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
*She comes in incense and patchouli*
So you take her, to find what's waiting inside
The year of the cat
Well morning comes and you're still with her
And the bus and the tourists are gone
And you've thrown away your choice you've lost your ticket
So you have to stay on
But the drum-beat strains of the night remain
In the rhythm of the newborn day
You know sometime you're bound to leave her
But for now you're going to stay
In the year of the cat
Year of the cat

Such a banger. 🤘 One of Zep's more underrated songs, IMO.
I love that Bonzo is just smashin’ the drums. One of my favorite Zeppelin songs. “Fool in the Rain”, is another great song.
Have you heard Four Sticks from this album?
Fool in the Rain is my all time favorite LZ song

Hey fellas. The mighty Zep. You can't put them in any box. They play Led Zeppelin music. Thanks for reacting to this one. Peace.
I think this might be my favourite track on Zeppelin 4, there's so much going on here - great choice, an awesome reaction as always. Hard to beat starting the day off rocking like this. Peace and love from Canada!
my fave on 4 for sure...it's a perfect zep tune
Bonzo killing killing it😮
Let's get this day hopping
This was such the music of us growing up in the 70s. I feel lucky... good times
This has got to be one of Bonzo's best drum tracks. It's so funky. Fun as hell to play too.
Obnoxiously simple. Basically rudimentary. Takes no technical skills to play. But.... Holy crap does it just ooooze with slodgy, sluggy, chugging groove and swagger. It's so tasty that it's hard to comprehend how simple it is.
You aint even got to When The Levee Breaks yet....... U ready, Bonham? Show 'em whats up
It gets better and better guys.
Great reaction.
This song encapsulates a time.
Exactly “Forget The Box…Just Think Outside “🎉😂❤🎼🎹🥁🎸🎤🎭🥇🐐
Robert Plant has been named by many to be the Best Rock Vocalist and for good reason too!

That song is like nothing else...love the groove
So. Damn. Good!
