49 years ago, my mom took me to visit my grandpa in Chengdu before he died in his 90s. It was my first time in Chengdu and was amazed by the sausage hanging from the ceiling of the restaurant. At that time, Chinese were poor and that is the reason that I still can remember the richness of food in Chengdu. Now Chengdu is such a pretty place well developed, just the same as other Chinese cities. Thanks for this beautiful video to make me so emotional.

Unfortunately one can’t discuss the ocean with a well frog as one’s limited by the space he lives in. One can’t discuss ice with a summer insect as one’s bound to a single season. Two third of the US population i.e 200 millions don’t have a passport to travel around the world.

To truly able enjoy living in China, one must be willing learn Chinese culture. Do not try to impose your culture on your hosts. As the saying goes, when in Rome do what the Romans do!!

@@oceanbreeze2663 I know that. I also know one starts a sentence with a capital, "are you aware....", should be "Are you aware...". But that is besideds the point. I am not, was not, nor have I ever had the intention to troll. My comment was well meant.
I am an open minded man, and as this vid tells the viewer, beware for false news. Alas, if I would follow the "official" looking You Tube channels and vids, than war between China and the Western world over Taiwain has already broken out.
Mr. Tan mentioning an Italian proverb is a proper one, but I wanted to remind mr. Tan that among the Romans were enough crazy people (just look what happened to Julius Caesar). The first Chinese Emperor's track record was also not very peaceful, so that's why I made my comparison, which, on closer review, may not have been as clear as I thought it to be.

Fuchsia Dunlop (what a lovely name) made the most touching impression on me - her lyrical description of the cormorant fisherman (something I'd love to witness myself in a natural setting, which I suspect is no more), a little reminiscent of one of my favourite writers, Laurie Lee + her ability to speak mandarin [again, I'm struck by her efforts to learn, speak & immerse herself in the local culture - I cannot help but think of the numerous Brits with second homes in Spain, Portugal, etc who just cannot be bothered to do likewise].
I'm not really a foodie, but have got a couple of her books on order to join the mounting pile I've yet to read.
Nice presentation, Chengdu Plus - I guess Chengdu will also have to be on my bucket list of places to visit in China. Thank you.

The reason of China’s fast development and advancement is because Chinese is adventurous. We are thrilled to learn foreign languages, travel to overseas to further study and nourish our minds, and most would return to contribute to our country. Americans and Western people are egocentric, not a nice word to be called is “well frog”. It is time to change if the Americans don’t want to fall behind. Time and tide wait for no man! These foreigners in this video are good examples for the Americans and Western people to learn!

There is some Montesquieu's word to this effect: We're ready embark on a journey to learn the world but our minds are not ready to appreciate what we've seen in our odyssey.
To some biased people, it's doesn't matter what the evidences are. Their minds are stuck with the way they've been dogmatized by Fox News, CNN, BBC, RFI, New York Times, The Australian despite all the positive changes in China are so apparent & prevalent.
One doesn't even need to go to China, just look at some internationally popular tourist meccas: Paris' Eiffel tower, Bavaria October Fest, Venice or Sydney Opera House, NY, Las Vegas (especially before US' Asian hatred incitement recently). Harvard, Stanford or Ivy League, OxCam, LSE, Sydney & Melbourne universities' oversea enrolments overwhelmingly filled with Chinese students. These Chinese tourists & students contribute tens of billions USD year in year out to the Western economies.
Obviously China doing well so this great number of tourists & students are able to afford their fortune on European tours & Western educations, especially to the US universities that condemns many American Students the life sentence on Student Debt.

I am always of the opinion that in the Chinese history there had been no real racism recorded. Although there had been killings, fightings and atrocities but these were not against any particular race or ethnicity. Educated Chinese people are required to respect each other and that has to be extended identically when they meet other nationals. Thus it warms my heart to see other nationals are enjoying living in China as much if nor more than their home countries.
Chinese people culturally treat all other nationals in China as "guests" to make them feel at home and would accommodate them without any issue. Foreign nationals would not be regarded as "foreign" once they are able to speak Chinese.
In my life experience I find all people at the grass root level can live together and it is their leaders who create disharmony. China leadership are from the best of the Chinese people so their cultural behavious would be examplary. Therefore all foreign nationals should find they are welcome in China by the Chinese people and the central government.

"Chinese people culturally treat all other nationals in China as "guests" to make them feel at home and would accommodate them without any issue."
      ------------------------------------------------------------------
Which is the completely opposite of what a Chinese person likely to experience if he comes to the US. Most Americans, white and black, would likely tell a Chinese person to go back to his country. That "your kind is not welcome here!" Likewise, it is the Americans that do all of the nasty spreading of hate and propaganda against China while the calm, gentle-spirited Chinese people keep quite to themselves without ever lashing back with the same kind of venom that the Americans have spewed against them. Anybody with an unbiased mind would know it is the Americans that are the aggressive ones and the ones in the wrong.
