What's so crazy is that Pacey WAS smart, he just grew up without the guidance, love, and nurturing that kids need to have that awareness and confidence. He really grew a lot by the end of the series - not perfectly but definitely better. He acted or spoke like he was confident but he wasn't really. I loved him with Joey and that breakup was messed up!
Yes, I still can’t rewatch this episode (( it’s so painful. And it’s such a crime we had these two in seasons 5 and 6 interacting with each other for such short period of time.
just alone for the brittana break up i have to give a thumbs up ... this devastaed me so much... at the time it felt like such a grown up decision for these two but it sure broke my heart.. glad they got to be together in the end
Angel and Buffy's break up was understandable. He knew that he couldn't give her a future.
A truly unforgivable break up is Alex and Jo from Grey's anatomy. He up and ends their marriage in a letter, after he was gone for who knows how long

Not really a "breakup" but GoT's Jaime sleeping with Brienne after several seasons of intense chemistry and a strong friendship and then leaving her the next day to go be with Cersei was such a gut punch. They worked so hard to make his character redeemable and likable and it was for absolutely NOTHING in the end.
Carrie didn't deserve Aidan at all. I couldnt stand her. 😂
Rachel and Ross's breakup had me in tears. I couldn't stand Ross either even though he was hilarious. 😭😂😂

Willow and Tara, or Willow and Oz, or Xander leaving Anya at the altar-all of these break ups on Buffy were gut-wrenching.
I'll never forgive Xander for the way he did Anya. He didn't deserve her. His response after finding out she died proves it even more.
Pacey and Joey breakup was heartbreaking. He felt inferior and like he was holding her back. Jackson and April were beautiful together, the writers just messed it up. These two couples are soul mates and endgame

As a _Buffy the Vampire Slayer_ fan I highly disagree with it being on the list, whether or not Spike was an option. Their breakup wasn't sad to me (if anything Buffy sending him to hell was the heartbreaking moment of their relationship). They weren't just doomed from the start because he was a vampire and she was the slayer. They were also doomed because he was a 240+ year old vampire, who in human years died at the age of 26, who was stalking Buffy at 15, meeting and dating her at 16, and sleeping with her at 17. The age of consent in California (where the show's in-universe takes place) is 18. Add the vampire issues, curse and all, they needed to break up. But it wasn't because he decided he had enough. It was because he knew he wasn't right for her and needed to do what he finally realized was right. I see very few fans nowadays considering it a tragedy (although I'm sure those fans are out there).
Cory and Topanga's multiple break ups on Boy Meets World should have been included. I think Carrie and Aidan's second split was worse, since they were engaged. Finchel's break up was brutal too.

Reliving that Ross and Rachel breakup made me realize how much both characters changed over the ten years. Honestly bravo to both David and Jennifer they did tremendous work both together and separately on that show
In regards to whether or not Ross and Rachel were "on a break". I think the big issue was that they didn't communicate the expectations of what being on a break were. Therefore, I think both parties are at fault and there is no right or wrong side.

The Gallavich breakups are all heartbreaking. Whether it was because of Mickeys forced wedding, where he beat up Ian or the end when he was hiding for the police… I teared up ever fooking time

Aidan definitely deserved more, I think Jackie and Hyde deserved more than an honorable mention. Not for their first break-up but their last. That 70s Show Season 8 never should have happened!

YES! Not only did Jackie getting with Fez was just gross. Fez spent the whole show skeezing on her, it just reinforced the whole ‘wait and break her down’.
(It also ignored that there was a reason why Jackie/Michael/Kelso worked. Both men *fit* with her personality)
Season 8 of That 70's Show was terrible. It should've ended with season 7 and Jackie and Fez getting together was a bad idea,I think she gave in to be with Fez because she didn't want to be without a boyfriend plus she never really liked him in the first place.
As I’ve always understood the concept, a “break” in a relationship doesn’t mean “broken up.” It just means that it’s on Pause, that the participants will not engage in any activities pertaining specifically to the relationship, but neither will they stop being SOs. It does not mean that a committed relationship suddenly becomes open, not unless both participants discuss and agree beforehand! Rachel knew what this meant, and Ross either had never run into the concept before or was too paranoid with jealousy to think or ask about it. Either way, sleeping with a random person the same night is not okay.
As gut-wrenching as the sequence is, *the* big breakup between the first Friends couple is my favorite in the series. It’s the most emotional collection of scenes there is, and this is coming from someone who can’t stand Ross and shipped Monica with Chandler from their conversation in “The One with the Jellyfish.”
The thing is: In "The Morning After," episode, Rachel said that she and Ross had broken up. In that scene, she admitted that she had initiated a breakup. This is further cemented when she shows up at Ross's apartment and asks if she can be his girlfriend again.
Did you forget about these scenes? Were you taking a nap when they took place? Because I remember them, vividly. Ross did not cheat on Rachel with Chloe, given the fact that Rachel had already made the decision to break up with him. She acknowledged that fact twice.
While I agree that Ross sleeping with Chloe was wrong, I'm not going to turn a blind eye to the fact that he was no longer in a relationship with Rachel. Why? Because Rachel had already broken up with him. And I'm sick and tired of people acting like he had cheated on her, because that's obviously not what happened.
The next time you watch these episodes, take off the blinders and actually pay attention. Listen to what Rachel says during the kitchen scene with Monica in "The Morning After," and also listen to what she says when she shows up at Ross's apartment while Chloe is still there.

How could you forget Jamie and Paul from Mad About You? The season where trying for a baby causes them to break is wrenching to watch. The episode where they eventually get back together has the most heartbreaking “I am giving you up” speech at the park bench still makes me sob! It is the conversation/fear every woman who can’t have children feels in a relationship. The fact that it consumed her and she was willing to give Paul up without telling him why was so honest that anyone going through pregnancy issues will relate to.
How Callie Torez and Arizona Robbins from Grey's Anatomy did not make it on this list is beyond me.

Actually, Buffy and Angel's breakup in "The Prom," is perfectly understandable. He didn't break up with her because he'd "had enough." He broke up with her because he honestly thought that he was doing what was best for her. He wanted her to have the chance for a normal relationship.
For me, Pacey breaking up with Joey at the Prom and humiliating her in front of everyone is absolutely despicable. I've never been a big fan of Joey, and Pacey is my favorite character. But I felt for Joey so much during that scene, and what he did is still disgusting to me.
Angel and Buffy breaking up was so heartbreaking but you couldn't be mad because it was from a loving place.
plus after losing his soul & becoming Angelus ( which was also Buffy's first time ffs ), his fearing it happening again is very understandable as well
As a Grey’s fan I’m glad to see Christina and Burke in this list. I loved them together and missed Burke when he left. As for Jackson and April, I’m probably the only person in the world who never liked April. Not even a little bit. Now for SATC, Carrie didn’t deserve Aiden. He was too nice a guy.

Lucas and Brooke’s break up is only sad because Brooke let herself be valuable again around luke knowing how much damaged he caused when they got together the first time… and she just started to trust her bestie and then it happened again..
Brooke had TWO breakups in one day.
Kurt and Blaine, or Rachel and Finn, from Glee. Both heartbreakingly great viewing.
I would like to point out to everyone who are hating on Ross, he did not suggest that he and Rachel take a break, she did, and if you don’t believe me, watch the previous episode, and you’ll hear her say it loud and clear for yourselves!
Keep in mind that these are the same people who not only ignore the fact that even Rachel admitted that they had broken up, but also don't even know what cheating on someone actually entails.
Who cares if they were or weren’t on a break though if he LOVED her eh wouldn’t have slept with another woman.

Alexis and Ted's was so heartbreaking but it was handled perfectly
Can we replace Jackson and April with Calli and Arizona? That was a slow burning fuse that took years to deteriorate and was fuelled by the trauma of Arizona losing her leg and Calli's heartbreaking attempt to "fix it" which ultimately only made things worse.
Jackson and April was also a rollercoaster but ultimately they did reunite.

seeing Alison DiLaurentis sign divorce papers on PLL: The Perfectionists ( which was otherwise a great continuation that didn't deserve to get cancelled on a cliffhanger... ) is still the one that hurts the most for me at the moment....especially since the supposed reason for said divorce was something she & Emily had already worked through and gotten past at the end of the main PLL series. PLEASE let Original Sin somehow reveal they reconciled in season 2....
also, though I prefer Tommy & Kat as a couple it's still heartbreaking to watch Tommy Oliver getting a dear John letter from Kimberly Hart during Power Rangers Zeo ( especially since the comics have since revealed the whole story from her side.... )
oh, and Ally McBeal & Larry Paul...while the real world reasons were understandable, the characters were so great together their breakup still breaks my heart to watch
As a big fan of Grey’s Anatomy, there’s a lot of break ups, and other sad moments. It’s my most favorite show to watch.

I was heartbroken when Kendall and Jo breaks up when she leaves for to filmed a movie. This was one of the Nickelodeon ships I loved.
In my opinion, no other girl on the show could ever replace Jo, she is gorgeous. I am so sad that Big Time Rush had to end.

Ross and Rachel are a perfect example for not saying what you don't mean or picking your words with extreme care.
If I'm extremely honest I could absolutely see me finding myself in this kind of situation if words weren't chosen carefully.
If one or both partners are typically weak when it comes to the need for touch or in the most basic case just need to be needed and find that when they are destroyed in this way. I can see it.

This is my own opinion. I was never a fan of Santana and Brittany’s relationship in Glee, I felt like their relationship was rushed and forced. I think that Kurt and Blaine’s relationship was much better.

I think exactly the same about Klaine: rushed, forced, annoying, toxic and predicable.
Maggie and Alex (Supergirl). They had their ups and downs and DEFINITELY had to learn how to communicate properly, but they were realistic and cute and badass. I'll never forgive the writers for that one. Then again the writers never cared about the pairing anyways, so I doubt they mind. 45 minutes of scrapped footage.
Sabrina & Harvey ! I think they end up together in the series finale but they spend quite some time separated

I think JD from Scrubs ruining Elliott's relationship just as she'd finally moved on from him only to admit that he wasn't in love with her was disgusting. Brucas breaking up broke my heart. Lucas and Peyton put Brooke through so much pain. Ross and Rachel was both intense and painful to watch

'Friends' and Rachel/Ross. Regardless of them being on a break....it's pretty insulting when your partner is immediately boffing someone the very next day...that would hurt anyone; drunk or not is irrelevant...it's the principle. Best episode though 'ever' about the 'on a break thing' ....when Chandler yelled, "Oh my God if you mention that one more time I'm gonna break up with you!" Classic!💜💜

Christina and Burke were a great couple, until he wanted her to change who she was. She was such a great character, refusing to compromise what she wanted in life.

i wasn't sad when Angel and Buffy broke up, i was happy. i didn't like Angel. he keeps saying that they cant be together but he keeps showing up knowing how much it hurts Buffy. also he knew that he could lose his soul by being with her and cause her pain but stayed with her until he lost his soul.
