Matt and Ricci pretending not to have a new camera is my favourite thing on CZcams
I have no idea what ur on about
@@RicciTalksdm me about the spacs, I won't tell a soul...
@@RicciTalks 🤣
@@RicciTalks You'll know what we're on about when your "How to set-up the Z6III" video drops next Monday. 😂
Yup! 😂
I really hope Nikon surprise us and give it pre-capture in RAW and it to the Z9 and Z8 soon after.
My first thought!
Well done Nikon, and this is not a rumor!! Great update Matt! Have a great day !
Cheers JRod, can't wait to see what is next !!
@@MattIrwinPhotography Look at what you are holding in your hands, you might see what is next. 😂
Nice to see Nikon releasing Z6iii.... It would have been more exciting to see Nikon releasing the Z90 too alongside the Z6iii.... Well in time for the Paris Olympics 2024.... It would have served both Videography crowd and Sports Action crowd too.
So glad I got to hear the news from you first!
Yes, about time for the pre-capture in a mid-range body! Steve Perry is testing a pre-production Z6iii down in Florida.
That focus about colours tells me new codecs are here !!! If it’s Red Codecs people are going to get super happy !! 🤣 then I can easily see those codecs being added to the Z 8 and 9 and maybe ZF ! Interesting times
This was my reason for the Z6III being delayed by the RED acquisition announcement, so I hope you're right.
Can you please explain to a noob what those codecs do or mean?
@@xchumpThink of Codecs in the same way you might think of Heif and JPEG in stills or RAW. With the Z8 and Z9, you can shoot video with NRAW Codec. Red, which Nikon recently acquired and has its own RAW Codec, is considered a jump up in Codec quality and has wider software support.
Thanks! @@andrewmason8691
Good times, Matt!
Had a feeling you would be telling me this, fantastic.

Great news!!!!

Thanks Matt! I’ve now watched this again several days later and it’s possible to read more into the teasing words! “Brightest/clearest” could hint at a more detailed (5.7Mpix?) viewfinder. All the colours could imply 16bit images. The pre-capture feature could now work when someone’s eye is at the viewfinder, instead of half pressing the shutter. All three are obviously unlikely but 2/3 would still impress me!
Guarantee this launches with the 35 1.2!
Many questions / excited / 6.5 days to go! 🤗
That would surprise me, that seems like an unusual camera-lens pairing.
@@UnconventionalReasoning Why unusual? Ideal wide fast lens for events, group portraits, etc. Z6III will be massively popular for these use cases.
I'm really excited to see what Nikon has come up with for this camera. Looking forward to next week's announcement already!
Outstanding high ISO performance would be great. I love the Z6ii for that as an events shooter. Getting eye af right would be brilliant as well. I love the idea of a hybrid stills and video camera because I’m getting more requests for b-roll video footage at higher frame rates in 4k. Now we wait for the price point… 😬
Ooooh my goooood 🎉
Z6 III in multiple Different colours??!?? Fingers crossed
So great to so a pro who has stuck with Nikon when it became so trendy to dump Nikon for Sony or Canon in the last 5-7 years.
As a life long Nikon Shooter, looking into what will be my 6th Nikon if I go ahead (probably a Z8. I found your channel looking for reviews and it’s been a great find.
Even better that you’re based in Melbourne and I get to see your take on some of the same landmarks I’ve captured over the years. Look forward to your post Z6iii release video.
YES YES YES!!!
Thanks!
Thank you !!!
Thanks
Thanks so much Joe
I really hope it records video to both card slots! PLEASE NIKON PLEASE!
They are most likely not giving us 2 cfexpress card slots. So you don't get RAW video recording if you want that feature.
@@rendezvous009 I'd be okay if it couldn't record RAW to both, since I know one will be an SD card. I'd just hope at least 10-bit 4k 60fps can record to both card slots.
@@3akoscielski We'll probably have to wait for the Z9II for dual card video recording.
@@UnconventionalReasoning Why do you think that? It should just be a Firmware update, shouldn't it? The R5 and R6 added it with a Firmware update.
@@3akoscielski Perhaps it can be done in firmware, it may depend on how the processor and internal bus are set up.
I think it'll be a brighter rear display rather than brighter EVF.
Content creators and videographers mostly use the display. Being able to actually see what you're filming is a game changer
You guys are such good actors, lol. I commend the acting skills.
The best actors and poker faces in YT😂 ..nikon has thousands of units shipped and on their way to the stores
Excited for this. My D750 is still going strong but i think the time has come for an upgrade.
Waiting for your reviews to come out next week and other YT influencers about your beta units Z6iii/Z7iii that you guys got and tested months ago👍😊
He makes as if he doesn't know LOL
Hello Natt, Yes I think you are spot on with a 4 year cycle, I will update about every 8 years. Unless something I need is there.
The 4-year cycle has been somewhat trashed for the Z cameras
* 2018: Z6/Z7
* 2020: Z6II/Z7II
* 2023: Z8
* 2024: Z6III
It's been 84 years! I got tired and went with the Z8 but excited to see what they bring to the table after the wait. I think this will replace my Z6ii. Really hoping the "colour" slide is an allusion to some new codec/video specs
It’s happening!! 🎉 and hopefully the fact they are advertising pre-capture means this will be stacked or very fast readout sensor..
so happy with my Zf that it would be difficult to consider a similar, even if newer, camera
Hoping it has Bird AF and a grip for wildlife photography. I might be able to upgrade from my D500 to the Z6iii....or a Z8
Very exciting news. Surely it’s a mini z8… just lower res. I can’t wait to see what Nikon has brought to the table. I love my z6. This may take its place next to the z9 as a second body in the camera bag.
Thanks Matt. Exciting times.
Stacked or BSI sensor?
‘Could capture even before pressing the shutter’ - does it imply a stack sensor?
Does pre-capture mean, that annoying delay when you sling a Z6 up from your hip waiting for the EVF to fire up before you can focus, will have a solution??
It's NEW LUT!!
Pre capture in raw?
Nikon rocks...
How long is that there is be z8 mark ii?
I think it will be stacked sensor.. 24 or 33mpxl.. how else can you get precapture.. and the colours mentioned may be RED cinema colours for video?
That's aparupa day in 1st frame.. our Indian wildlife photographer
I believe it’s going to be more like the Olympus cameras. Electronic ND (so you can see better in bright light), pre-capture en maybe also live-comb.
It would be interesting if you are correct.
I was hoping Nikon would have bumped up the resolution slightly like the 33MP on the A7iv. I own a Z8 and was hoping to downsize to something smaller for hiking. 24 seems low after owning a D850 and now Z8. I am demoing a A7c ii and I love the raw files. Perfect file sizes, amazing shadow recovery, and a nice small form factor. Ive never been happy with my Z8's raw files when comparing them to my older D850, and this A7c ii. The way I shoot (landscapes exposing for highlights) isn't as clean with the Z8.
Well (shakes fist in the air) after your channel convinced me to get the Plena, I ain't got no funds for a Z6iii! Curses! Actually I'm pretty well kitted out in the camera department if I take a practical look at the inventory. I think my next big purchase will have to be in the computer upgrade department. After all, one needs to support the back end too. But, I "could" rationalize this as a great travel camera. But one camera I'd like to upgrade is the Z50. Faster auto focus and a wee bit more robust body. It's been my walk the dog camera and frankly it produces some very nice images - if I do my part. And so much lighter than the other camera's.
Any new APSC camera maybe? I realy need an Z30 with viewfinder.
I hope it will satisfy the needs of the different genres of photographers, including you.
You too !!
Number Focus point : Stay same until for how long ??
Would be hard to beat the Lumix S5 in low light.
Good morning, let me briefly share my experience with you. I have always been a user of Nikon cameras. These are reliable and well-built cameras, with an excellent screen and viewfinder. However, with the transition to mirrorless, I switched to Sony. Having also used the Nikon Z6II in a professional setting, I can say that the eye recognition autofocus and other features did not provide reliability for my work, and it must be admitted that it is not up to the competition. I am very satisfied with Sony, specifically with the Sony A7 IV and the R series... I will never go back! For me, it's simply a matter of equipment, meaning what I need is just reliability at work, quality, and a good feel.
le jour est arrivé 🎉
Des moments passionnants
Why not a processor update? If Nikon shifts to a smaller nm chip design they might be able to add features without creating heat issues. For instance, in the Z8 you have to use a half-press to initiate pre-release capture. The teaser says you don’t have to touch the shutter at all. That tells me the camera has buffered image sampling happening whenever the Z6III gets turned on. Wouldn’t that chew through batteries using the XSpeed 7? We will know for sure in a week but it won’t surprise me to learn Nikon introduced an XSpeed 8 at the same time-which might open the door to a Z9 refresh in time for the Olympics as well.
There could be a sensor update, nobody said it's not going to happen. Also, most rumors specify that the Z6mk3 is going to have a new sensor. We'll have to wait and see. Good question about the battery life if that precapture doesn't require touching the shutter button at all. Does this also mean it won't have a mechanical shutter? Would make sense imo.
If it's a sensor larger than 24M, like 33M I would buy it!
That's already 'half-way' to the Z8 in mp, I doubt they would do it.
Leaked news say that it still has a 24.5 mp, so no thank you. It has pixelshift, but this gives artifacts. Big no for me for the Z6iii. I stick with my Z7ii
The price will mean I'll probably get one 2nd hand in 2029. We definitely need some more budget lens options too.
I was your 1000ndth like 👍 😅
Had pro capture on my Olympus camera for years
Steve Perry has let slip, well done an insta video, that he is testing one. Surely Nikon would be slipping a quiet copy to you as well!
Was the Z7iii out in Beta testing? I hope that releases soon.
I am thinking the price point will be somewhere around $2500 . My other predictions : 24mp sensor, up to 6k internal raw video (open gate possibly?) , maybe support for anamorphic lenses, which is something rumored to be coming via firmware update for the z8 and z9. It will most likely have n-raw or possibly a red raw based codec for raw video (really hoping for 60p at 6k and 120p at 4K, 120 is personally important to me filming stunt performer rehearsal, and stunt wire rigging ). I don’t think it will have ProRes raw (at least not in hq) . Not having ProRes raw means anyone who really needs that will have to get a z8 or z9. They won’t want to have a less expensive camera directly competing with higher end models with that feature. I have never shot ProRes raw in my z8, i might have to at one point , but it’s feature I can clearly live without so I won’t care if the z6iii doesn’t have it. I will want this camera as a b-camera to my z8 which is what I think a lot of z8 and z9 owners will want as well. I am already thinking of all the fun stuff I can do with this camera shooting stuff for @stuntworksactioncinema 😊
Open gate is what I would most want. REDCODE Raw would be interesting, even up to 4k60.
While Matt and his followers keep talking about this as a 'pro' camera, it really needs to meet the needs of the hobbyist and enthusiast, like the parents of student-athletes who want better pictures than from their phone.
New sensor!!!!
I would bet that you are under NDA ;-) Anyway. PreCapture was there on Olympus for years already, a new viewfinder with more brightness means less battery capacity as the battery will be no different from the Z8. If we watch the quick movie, the screen does look for being tilt only like it is right now on the Z6ii. No change. There is a mode dial visible, which is good. Will the Z6iii be groundbreaking? I don't expect it to be. Maybe for videographers, but without a fully articulated screen, i highly doubt that it will be the vloggers preferred cam. A 24mpix sensor? well, 30mpix would have been better, considering the cam sitting in the middle of the lineup Z9, Z8, Z6iii, Z5, Z50 (ii)
I have the ZF, so I'm not expecting many changes from ZF, lol 😆
The scary thing is it will likely be priced above the Zf launch price ($3,449) so that will scarily mean $4k in Australia! Canon R6II is about $3600 and Sony RIV $3200 at market prices, so I guess $3999 is appropriate, but hurts considering I bought the Z6II for $2,600. I am excited for the 35mm f1.2, but to be honest i would just love an f1.4 line up with clickable apeture ring aka sony and recent Canon RF announcements.
Is it significantly better at low light than the Z8/9?
So exciting. I was waiting so long for this announcement. But since my z61 lcd screen stopped working, I needed a camera sooner. So in late april, I got a Z8. NO REGRETS. I love it so much. I would have got the z63 if it was out sooner though! lol.
Exciting news from Nikon, for sure. They needed a new mid-range camera with similar spec's to their Z8/Z9 and their competition. By the looks of their sneak peek video they have accomplish that. As a hobbyist photographer and long time user of Nikon APSC cameras (own the Z50...great travel camera). Nikon needs a new APSC camera to complete their camera portfolio. Sony, Canon and Fujifilm are well ahead of Nikon APSC cameras. For me I am going to more excited to see a new Nikon APSC camera.
Yep, Nikon needs to get a younger generation in. As a gray hair man, I see only gray hair man using Nikon. They must bring a very good APSC line of camera, with a z30ii, zfcii and Z70 at aggressive prices. The aim is not to make a big profit, but to get a younger generation to enter the system.
I think they need some faster zoom lenses for APS-C/DX first. Where's the standard f/2.8 zoom for DX Z-mount? A wide angle f/2.8 or f/4 zoom?
Sony and Fuji are well ahead of Nikon for their APS-C lens lineups; I think Canon is at about the same place as Nikon.
A Z70 would be interesting.
I have a theory the internals of a Zf were originally designed for a future Z6iii but Nikon saw how popular the Fujifilm X100V was and hurried a retro looking Zf camera to the market using whatever internals the Z6iii prototype had.
My question is: How much of the Red acquisition will be in the Z6 iii?
They only recently completed the deal, so probably nothing.
@@praetorian65 My money is that there will be at least one thing from Red in the Z6 iii. Prolly something in the software.
These things are planned out far in advance of release, so almost surely nothing (yet).
Waiting for the Z7 III...🙂
Same. Hopefully by the end of the year?
The Z7III may not happen. If the Z6III is $2500 USD, and the Z8 has already had rebates to $3500, the Z7III has been squeezed out. There are also few differentiating features left.
@@UnconventionalReasoning There's still nothing over 45mp. The price doesn't necessarily have to be far apart from the others, it just has to be an appropriate price for the technology inside it. I can see the Z7III as a 60mp camera, slower shooting than the Z6III, with expeed 7 for decent AF. It doesn't look like it will be happening soon though, maybe late this year or next year.
@@praetorian65 Who far about 45mp is desired? 80mp? A 60mp camara is irrelevant next to the 45mp cameras, it is only about 17% increase in resolution. In photography, we concentrate on things doubling, and this would be a '1/6 stop' resolution increase. There is little benefit to Nikon to produce that camera. Nikon sees the confusion Sony has created with so many cameras with similar price points, but at least those have some clear distinctions like being video-buildout cameras like the FX3 and FX30. But the Z7III would be a retread with only a 17% resolution improvement.
In latest Rummors, they said better DR and low light. I hope this is true, at least for DR we have been stuck with the same for a decade.
16-bit stills perhaps? And more likely 12-bit RAW video internal.
It will be impressive, but that seems to be more likely in the next generation, with an Expeed8 processor and strong input from the RED team.
It seems to me that it has a fully articulating screen. Look at the shot where the videographer is shooting from below.
OMG! Ever since my Z6II went in a river accidentally last summer I've been waiting for the Z6III...so excited!
Now I'm just curious where the 'price point' is going to land!?!
Almost certainly $2000-2500 USD.
@@UnconventionalReasoning Oh I agree, Z6II new and Zf new in Canada where I am are $2699 CDN ($2K US), I'm hoping it comes out around the same.
@@JasonLorette The highest price it can have would seem to be the price of the Sony A7IV, Canon R6II, and Panasonic S5II.
@@UnconventionalReasoning I hope so, and Nikon has been fairly aggressive with some of their models in the last few years so I’m hopeful.
Well, after seeing the lack of virtually any specs or features on Canon's development announcement for the EOS R1 a couple of weeks ago, I can't complain too much about the few hints Nikon gave for the Z 6III.
A hint of a full announcement in one week is pretty legit.
Well, my Z6II has been a great servant for the last four years, but I sense the credit card taking a wallop and heading for the RED. Cheers Matt!
Good Acting Matt :D
33mp please
Hope that Nikon provide a larger EVF, say 25% larger pls.
40MP and native 64 ISO
Duel CF Express B slots
There is zero chance it will be 40mp. Sorry.
Sounds like the Z8 or Z9 would be your camera
So far Steve Perry and Rachel Bigsby have dropped teasers saying they are testers. That looks like probably Shannon Wild in Africa. All wildlife shooters so that says something about the autofocus capability. Please no flippy screen. They ruined the Zf with one. Could they maybe have a LUTS library like Panasonic?
I would bet that Ricci is as well. And perhaps Matt.
forget 14fps!! I'd settle for some 5x4 crop guides so we can frame easily for Instagram, seeing that's where most of our images and up!!
I've never understood why this is such a difficult thing to implement seeing we've had a grid overlay for over 2 decades, and crop guides are just a variant of that 🤦♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
The video showed Birds, so perhaps BIF?
Steve Perry is testing Z6III on the field, he said that in his YT short video. He will certainly tell us wildlife capability of the Z6III.
I hope it has a new viewfinder, Nikon is almost a decade behind in terms of resolution, although the responsiveness is state of the art, only the new Sony A9 is better, in a meaningful way. I am also hoping for a new sensor, but it could be the 33mega pixels sensor from Sony (or maybe the same in the Df), not even a stack sensor.
The new megapixel war: the EVF? 😂
A 33mp sensor seems unlikely, that gets it 'half-way' to the 45 mp sensors in the Z8/Z9, reducing the distinction.
They released the video and sent email to every Nikon subscriber 5 hours ago.
"In a bright situation, if I can see better ... etc" - Some kind of ND wizardry?
new and better EVF i guess
@@juergenkuprat5130 Most likely yes I agree :)
Fantastic,... but I am that guy who still has his camera set on single shot mode.
The AF tracking will also be faster than the Z6II.
If it has a screen that flips around.. there is a possibility I might sell my z8 and get one.. but it’s unlikely I would lol
I’m hoping for 33MP but still good low light video!!
Take the leap to 45mp. I doubt 33mp is going to happen.
a few words to the higher dynamic range of the sensor of the Z6-III:
i explained the patent that nikon filed about two years ago (don't know anymore, did not find it anymore) many times in many forms (your videos, others, nikon rumors page etc.).
it is about variable capacitance of each individual sensor pixel that can be changed in real time.
what does it do: a low capacitor on a sensor pixel is good for charging up the pixel voltage very fast, which is good for low light situations and low noise in dark areas of the picture.
bringing high light on the same picture would reach the maximum voltage very fast and the high lights would be blown out. to increase that dynamic range nikon found a method to add a second but bigger capacitor to a single pixel sensor that makes it suitable to higher brightness.
this means that you can shoot wider open or with longer exposure to have less noise in the shadows but at the same time the highlight do not get blown out and you still get a lot of detail in high light.
it makes photography even a bit easier because you set your auto exposure in a setting with enough headroom where some sharp high brightness areas do not get blown out but you still have enough detail in the low lights.
if i would guess, if this patent is applied to the sensor of the Z6-III my guesstimation would be 3dB better signal to noise ratio (half a bit) and 12dB (=2 bit) more dynamic range in total when compared to the Z6-III. if we are extreme lucky, we get 6dB (=1bit) better signal to noise ratio, which means half the noise.
Wish Nikon and Sony would make is so we can use Bluetooth wireless microphones like DJI mic 2 without the transmitter DJI sells a solo DJI mic 2 for $99 You can use it wirelessly for apple phones to record video I use the solo mic 2 for my Nikon for video I just sink up the audio in post
Ah an announcement vs in peoples hands.. its the expected flow down of Z8/Z9 tech into the mid-tiers. Now we can waste a ton of cycles guessing.. for me Zen mode and simply be patient.
Matt: FYI - I’m subscribed. More than half your videos now have no notifications. This is a sudden change over the past few weeks.
Yes, unfortunately CZcams makes these decisions. My best advice is to check the channel manually. I do post once or twice a week always :). Thanks for letting me know.
For me the key would be autofocus capabilities. The Z6ii seriously lacked adequate focussing capabilities for action subjects and this is where A7iv is supreme in its peer group. The subject tracking in Z6ii was well below par compared to A7iv.
If it is any good for wildlife photography paired with nikon 180-600 mm , then I may be interested One big drawback is it won't be be a crop sensor.
It should be excellent for wildlife paired with the Nikon 180-600mm.
You can easily put it in crop mode like any full frame and then you have full frame also when you want it.
@@derrickm9808 Yes, though the 24mp Z6II becomes an 11mp camera.
If it doesn't have a sensor protector I'll be getting the R6 II.
The R6 II doesn't have a sensor protector, it has a feature that means the shutter closes when it is powered down. It's going to be easier to damage shutter blades than a sensor with a filter over it.
✌🏽
Bout Time!
I think it's going to be the Z6 II, plus one. So let's calculate. Z + 1 = A, because it wraps around in the alphabet, 6 + 1 = 7, and II + 1 = III.
So, we'll very clearly get an A7 III.
😉
As useless as this video is, I do appreciate the production value and will always watch. I am a big fan of your content.
24MP stacked...
Stacked hopefully!!!
@@williambuford6136 hopefully not. More noise, less dynamic, more trouble with HSS flashes...
Are we looking at a 24mp stacked sensor? May be.
I don't think so. It would be priced more than the Sony A7iv and the EOS R6ii, if they put a stacked FF sensor.
@@OnlyCitrus I agree. And if they are promising better low light performance and dynamic range, it's unlikely to be a stacked sensor.
@@OnlyCitrus So, I am partially right then. :)
Only if its stacked is interesting.
