    Arc thrower is sitting in B-Tier vs bugs. It's simply not battle hardened for solo helldiving against hordes of hunters or any large groups which you'll often face. It's decent at killing chargers but it truly shines at stunning charging brood commanders.

    The day I discovered shield backpack protected me from bug slow, I had one surgically installed into my spine. It never leaves me.
    I know not everyone likes the shield backpack, but the amount of times it allowed me to just casually walk away from a situation where I should have been a red smear is bonkers.

      I am one of those disliking the shield VS the bugs. Solely out of (stoopid) pride, tho
      I don't really mind people taking it but *in my mind* it should only work vs projectiles and the fact it works vs everything makes the game too easy for me and my gamer pride x)

      Muscle enhancement perk makes you not totally immune but heavily resistant to the slow, a nice solution if you want a lil more build variety.

      stim and throw an impact grenade at your feet, usually saves me from a group of hunters harrasing me

    Some people say that giving Hunters a gap closer and a slow is too much but I think it wouldn't be a problem if they didn't headshot us constantly. At this point I'm convinced it's not intentional design. We also complained about Automaton rockets while a bunch of people told us we're having a 'skill issue'. Then the devs changed it and simultaneously told us it was a bug. Rockets dealt their full damage to every limb in range potentially doing 5 times more damage than intended. Similarly it doesn't make sense that 2 out of 3 hits we take are headshots while fighting melee units. Chargers often deal less damage than Hunters because most of their attacks are headbutts or kicks that don't reach our head hitbox. It becomes even more comical when factoring in the size difference of these bugs. Essentially we're taking 2.5 times more damage than we should. If the devs can't fix this they should simply remove headshots against players and instead increase the base damage of enemy attacks. It would make the game a lot less frustrating.

      Hunters can keep their long jumps, but they should remove their ability to slow. Me thinks the only units that can slow you should only be bugs that can spew (after some changes and removal of headshot multiplier). Also, I feel they silently reverted their nerf on bot missile damage cause I would sometimes get oneshotted even with a shield backpack.

    headless bugs are insanely fast and reactive considering they can't see you anymore, i'd mind less if they were simply SUPER aggressive and swinging wildly but they run you down like a charger the moment the head goes pop.

    The range nerf isnt the issue. its the charge up time when the weapon cant reliably hit anything point blank

      I find its easier to hit enemies point blank if you are hip firing. Still sucks when there's inconsistencies

      My playing time with the arc thrower is like you say it's very unreliable on what it will do. Sometimes it just arcs around enemies, or just drops off into the ground other times it will ghost buster beam through a pack dropping everything. I still like it but charge up is a bit harsh too. But it's consistent on friendly fire nuking though.

      I have to disagree. The problem is the combination of titans, chargers and hunters. He was spending a lot of time dealing with the heavy enemies and in the meantime hunters surrounded him. Arc thrower and incendiary breaker are redundant, eagle napalm is questionable, termite grenade is good but not that good.
      You can’t spect to be able to win with any load out, solo, on the hardest difficulty. It’s meant to be frustrating. If you want to play like this you’re going to have to use meta.

    Jump pack + arc thrower = perfect combo. You can never get too close with arc thrower or you’re done for, absolutely need the jump pack to fly away when in trouble and recoup

    19:17 that sure was 70-75% of your hit points gone in a single auto-tracking-missile hit with an IMMEDIATE rag-doll-tongue cone-attack the moment the bug landed.
    I don't mind if they did high-damage, or rag-dolled, or tackled/snared but all 3 within a couple of second from ONE hunter is a teeny tiny bit much. let the other bugs have some of the "fun".
    The laser-pointer only did about 5-10% of your hp, it was pretty much ALL the hunter.
    You were at 90-95% hp when it engaged so i'm not sure if the tongue could have killed you if you had been full hp or not shot in the back or even both.
    32:50 well, there's the answer you WOULD have survived the 2-combo but any 3rd hit (or the missing hp to start with, ot if the rag-doll had slammed your head into any terrain causing "fall damage") was enough to turn it into an "instant" death (anything without counterplay is IMO instant). stray passing-hit, JUMPED-slowed-headshot for 70-80% hp by hunter-2, then minor-hit again by the first guy while slowed. To even see that happening you need to run it at half speed or slower or it's just a blur of limbs and the auto-tracking-missile to the face.

      @@shilombaba We had functioning helmets at launch. They turned them off on accident with the body armor fix. We're taking headshot damage like we're naked civilians.

    The bug breaches that I hate the most aren't the multiple chargers/bile titans. Those are easy to deal with using anti-armor. The ones I actually hate the most are when it spawns a ton of Bile Spewers and adds. The adds block you being able to quickly kill the spewers with nades, then if you run away, they harass you with bug artillery. It drives me crazy.

      AoE weapons massacre those types of breaches though, plasma punisher, eruptor, exploding crossbow, and grenade launcher all works.

      @@JonathanNakhla Sadly no, all of the ship modules you can get that buff certain damage types (25% more fire damage, more arcing for arc weapons) only benefit support weapons and other stratagems. So the fire buff module benefits napalm strike, flamethrower, and incendiary mines, but not the inc. breaker, thermite grenade, or incendiary grenade.

    2:05 my two cents, it's because you actually stay on the move! most people i play with drop everything to attack every enemy they see. many choose to hold completely still, allowing breaches/drops to stack on the same locations repeatedly. they treat it like a turn-based RPG and fight until every enemy is gone, instead of staying on the move from objective to objective.

    That Rover should be flying twice as high IMO. So you can't walk in to it that easily or when you climb up something you don't get fried. And/or it should stop firing when it hits you or teammates and do a maximum of 30-50% damage at most (and then stop firing).

    I appreciate that Hunters give you grief too. I posted a video where I was casually running at full health when I was 2 hit by a pair of Hunters that flew at me from offscreen and most of the comments amounted to "skill issue".

    You're not the only one with a problem with teh Hunter Spam. Hunters are actually fine as they are except there is just too damn many of them. It's way too often that they spawn too much and too rapidly. Same goes for the toasters, the Berserker Chainsaw Arm crap. The Flame Hulks are bad, but their little brothers are insane because of their massive health pool and most importantly their huge numbers...

      My only guess about the berserkers is that they might have the same health as a Devastator, I've since been starting to use my railgun against those chainsaw wielding maniacs and it's worked wonders on them, only issue is that well... I only have 20 shots +1 in the chamber...

    I'm right there with you brother. Hunters are the bane of my helldiver existence too, I think it took me all of 2 seconds to formulate that sentiment. Like you said, they're not even a challenge, they're just stupid

    I've been using the smoke mushrooms tech as emergency jump pads for a while, make sure to dive in the OPPOSITE direction of where you want to go while popping them, also make sure to always have full hp to prevent dying to fall damage.

    11:35 several minutes, huge nest of 11 holes, even cost you a life, on helldive, yet get only 20xp, this is why I don't bother with nest/factories unless they're on the way

    Don't forget to use the thermite nades to close some holes as well. It takes a bit longer but makes resupplies more efficient as you get 2 pistol 2 nades = 4 holes worth of resources per box.

    Yeah, Arc Thrower's original range was stupidly long, people just don't have a good judge of distance despite there being a range finder in game.

    Played a lot with the arc thrower and I can confirm you want to aim ABOVE the enemy instead on aiming right at them (that's for the small enemys. Anything as big as a brood comanders can be directly aimed at). That way it's more guarantied to actually hit them. The weapon can be very inconsistent but when it hits, oooh boy it hits. Especially against automatons it's really good. You can stagger all enemys and Hulks go down in 5-6 shots. Really love this weapon but they really have to work on its consistency. Sometimes I try to shot a Hunter 10 meters in front of me and the weapon just wont hit it the first 4 shots, so I have to switch to my primary or secondary to kill it.

    One thing I think would make the arc thrower feel better to use is some kind of obvious visual feedback when you hit enemies, like if they got little sparks all over them or something. Right now it's hard to tell you're even doing anything to them unless they die.

    Waiting for friend to save up for this ship upgrade so we can go Ben Franklin mode with our arc armor and play pretend ghostbusters together. The sound of 4 arc throwers cracking out is right up there with "BOOM Target Down" from eagle-1. Every drop has the potential to either be a tragic war movie or a chest-thumping recruitment driver.

    When will they nerf Hunters and charger mobility? Chargers should not Tokyo drift me. They weigh like 10 tons, Rhino’s can’t do that.
    The equivalent mobs on the automaton side is the jet pack trooper (you never die from their jet pack explosion, it’s the fire damage) and heavy devastator (they have too fast fire rate for something that should be “heavy”) and the berserker hulk (like the charger it shouldn’t be moving as fast as it weighs so much).

      ever seen a rhino running? those things are FAST, there's a reason most other animals don't mess with them, they do need to be a little less light-footed in terms of their up close turning though and rely more on their side-tackle attacks. I don't mind the things being fast, i don't mind them being tough, i don't even mind them needing some timing to juke, but if i get behind them they shouldn't be able to face me again within 2 seconds od head-butting a wall or screeching to a halt. A little pause or "where'd they go" scan would be appreciated (tho if you are already shooting at their ass then fair play, let them spin around faster then because it's not unreasonable tfor it to know your exact location at that point.)
      net result, chargers are just a bit too-aware of the player location despite being an eyes-front enemy with a body 90% covered in giant armour plates.
      the hunters are overtuned though, they deal WAY too much damage for a "tackler" unit, their high incidence of headshots especially mean they open you up to 2-3 shot combo-kills that happen in less than a second but their in-game use was supposed to be that of a crowd control unit that keeps you tied u sot he other bugs can surround you.
      But they can rag-doll, headshot, nibble AND slow a player within a second of initiating combat from 30+ meters away with a leap that will change-directions mid-air effectively guaranteeing that opening headshot.

      ​@IRMentat I agree hunters are ridiculous. I think hunters should be slightly better than pouncers but not these insane combo + slowing you monsters.
      Remove the slow. Take the combo down from 3 to 2.
      And probably reduce the amount that spawn.
      At the VERY least they need to remove the slow.

    arc thrower - eruptor - redeemer - rover, 500kg/precision strike with stun grenades. prob not cut for solo 9 but it handles group play very good.

      Arc thrower is my favorite weapon but I don't use it on bots after they nerfed the max range, and fire rate. However the stagger is welcome. I feel as though the range nerf was okay but they fire rate should have remained the way it was it rewarded good play and had a higher skill ceiling.
      I like arc thrower incendiary breaker rover 500kg and airstrike for bugs with medium medic armor for general use or +2 grenade armor for closing holes.
      And for bots I run the heavy medic armor from the super store along with auto cannon, sickle, 500kg, air strike, and ems mortar for general gameplay.

      ​@@Poo_Garden i still use arc thrower on bots if squads got an AC and enough AT. the stagger controls hulks and dev packs with ease which and covers the short end of engagements that the eruptor struggles with.

    2 things I remember the devs doing/saying
    1 They lowered the spawn rate of tanky mobs (now in favor of other spawns) BECAUSE people had an issue with dealing 13 chargers at one time. Hunters are just faster than other mobs
    2 They also went on to say the longer you take the harder things will get and the more mobs spawn. Its fair when you take so long, that things are going to notice you

      I barely feel that reduced spawns on heavy infantry cause, for some reason, a patrol can also spawn heavy infantry. I'm wondering now if what they meant on that patch was that they reduced the spawn of "Elite Variants" on 7-9?

    I use rover so frequently, and you just play so damn fast, that I don’t think you’re getting all the mileage out of him that you could be getting. I find that I lean on it so heavily sometimes that I feel like it could be getting a nerf of some kind.
    I’ve noticed a few times that a flea will come around the corner and you’ll blast him with your breaker. Nothing wrong with that, but you can stretch your ammo a long ways if you slow down/ignore combat.

    yup i feel the same way. all said and done, hunters are the hardest enemies in the game. almost all their attacks slow/stun you, basically 1 shots you, and they always throw 30 of them at you. even at lvl 4-6 they are super annoying to deal with. stalkers are easier to deal with than hunters lmao

    Try using medium armor if you're having trouble with hunters,
    Try the jump pack or shield pack on those maps with tall areas that are jumppackable.
    I've learn to deal with hunters with both backpacks. Enhanced muscles will also save you from the slow effect, both from hunters and spewers/titants.
    Also a well placed orbital airburst will delete the mobs. Low cool down and only requires ➡️➡️➡️ this along side a 500kg is my favorite loadout for bugs.
    And you wont see much kills with a 500kg because most of it's damage is vertical ⬆️ so thats why it's key to drop it right below or right on its face.
    If you somehow land it on it's leg, it won't kill all the time.
    Another tip for jumppackers, take the aggro away from your team. Some rocks are big enough that when the titan spews it hits itself, ultimately killing itself.

    Jump pack really helps the solo arc vs bugs. It stops a lot of mistargetting, creates more ground distance for them to crawl, and bottlenecks them at the climbing points.

      i find the opposite
      the hunters just tag you mid-air and you land 20-25 meters away slowed, hurt, with a stumble animation and another 50 seconds before you can jump again with 1-4 hunters on you and no option to shoot/stim

      Jumpack is op against bugs, only the two flying bugs reach you on a high enough rock.
      The other bugs just stand there like serious sam grunts.

    It seems that each mission has a set template of what quantities of which enemies are spawned in that mission. Like some mission there are a thousand bile spewers, and others have none.

    1:45 Definitely have to aim above your target. Not just for headshots, but for dead bugs and environment, it really doesn't like to arc over stuff. But the +1 is amazing.

    This upgrade is the best of all the new ones. It is good specifically because of how iffy the arcs can be. If it is prone to wasting an arc or two, then what does +1 arc mean? It means you from from 1-2 hits to 2-3 hits. 50-100% more.
    They also totally keep changing it. I swear. And by that I mean I'm 75% confident that it is just me. But damnit, it seems like it is changing. I'm back to using ADS regularly with it because it gets more reliable at hitting specific targets and finding a target in an iffy longer range with potential 'distractions' situation that way. Also hitting things at point blank.

    im trying my best to remember i have a melee button in this game, punching those dashing headless bugs actually stagger them back and stop their strikes, i found this a much better option than shooting a dead corpse or diving downhill suffering ragdoll shenanigans.

    The charge up is the same. What they refer to in the patch notes is there used to be a bug that let you spam fire every shot after the first fully charged shot, letting you release them half way through the charge progress and still fire. It's not so much that they nerfed it, they just fixed the bug it had, which is a shame because it felt even more insane than it does now. I guess as a trade off you get tons of stagger for each shot now

    They def did something to mess up the arc thrower. It is hard to get it to latch on now for some reason. Like I will have the aim completely center mass and it won't hit sometimes. I've noticed I have to aim a little higher for better results but it's just weird. I really hope they fix it because arc thrower and shield backpack are my go to every game.

      It's the same as before in that regard. You just need to have minimal clutter between you and your primary target. Ive been running it against bugs forever, both before the rework and after, and I love it more now thanks to the massive stagger it deals.

    3:15 I think they did make it slightly slower again, but I think that's to compensate for the fact it does about as much knockback as pre-nerf slugger now, which fired about the same speed with relative firepower

      allowing it to arc even once would be a HUGE benefit to an almost unusable weapon, IMo it's RoF needs to be "45" at least as one shot per 2 seconds on a limited range weapon with no splash is crazy.

      @@IRMentat It's a very usable weapon for kiting. Infinite hard stagger at an ROF that allows you to keep creating distance as you whittle down the horde. Damage is either phenomenal or pitiful but with the amount of stagger it does that's manageable. I can reliable hold off 3 stalkers at once indefinitely while the damage keeps rolling poor. When it rolls well they go down in 1 or two shots. More than 3 and they're liable to be able to sneak in a critical shot that ruins the rhythm, unless you roll well early enough. If too many hunters get too close you whip out the redeemer and then switch back. Once you've created enough distance, you can switch back to whatever crowd-clearing secondary you're using. Blizter + Redeemer + GL + EAT + shield and light armor works great for me on egg and blitz missions. Pairs well with arc thrower too but I try not to double up on unlimited ammo weapons and pick something with more utility and/or dps instead

    The only thing I've found effective against hunters solo is the Punisher. I've honestly been bringing an MG, EATs for everything else and the Punisher just for hunters. (it helps against brood queens too but) It just is a 1 shot or staggers them.

    well there is one thing that we can all agree on, fire damage to the player should be a bit lower.
    once you randomly step on a burning newspaper you burn to death in less than a second while a charger can ramm you at full speed and knock you against a wall, breaking both legs and an arm but you are alive.
    i'm not telling you should be imun, but lower it to something like 3 seconds or something.
    i know the bugs are made out of oil, but are we and ouer armor aswell?

      The buff for fire damage should've only been applied to players and not all sources. I guess that's harder to code in, and they just said "Fudge It", meanwhile they found out that there's a bug for DOT damage, not applying except for the host, but they still went ahead with the fire damage buff.

    the Thermites confuses me tbh, they bounce off enemy bodies (19:52 Thermite 1 misses the target, Thermite 2 bounces off the face, Thermite 3 bounces off the face), i dont see reason or logic to ever use them unless this changes.

    This upgrade is a slap on our faces. AH murdered the arc thrower, refused to fix its unreliability to actually hit targets and added a very expensive upgrade which you won't feel the difference 99.999999% of the time. Don't get this upgrade unless you are a completionist and have the resources to spare.

    I’ve been fooling around with taking localized confusion on difficulty 9 as long as the team at least takes stamina. I “feel” like it’s helped keep the bug breaches more manageable

      yup, that's the inconsistency. 1 side of the therm is spiked the other is not so you have to memorize the distance, height and angle.
