Also I contacted signature solar to put me a complete system together using the 18K and two EG4 batteries with all components needed. And I still haven't heard back from them.
Signature Solar also has the 18K refurbished for $3699 - I would assume (but might be wrong) that somebody could click any of your links above so you still get the referral credit and then go over and order the 18K refurbished one instead. They say it's fully functional with a 2 year warranty so that's probably the route I'd go.
My diy garage ore smelter may hit 136A haha
Some large commercial AC units draw over 200A
Welder
I'm here for Will watching his old videos for reference, just like I do with his videos. Lol.
Yeah.. why do the same homework twice?
I have some of his videos on a playlist for YT that is for a future house build. A KB resource if you will, just for this purpose. 😆
Will watching Will's video is straight out of Spaceballs.
That gave me a good laugh.
for someone who I think has seen in all in regards to solar power, I loved seeing him like a kid on christmas when he had everything going at once. I didn't think 4 compressors and a car lift were the thing dreams were made of
Exactly! Like a little kid at christmas! I loved it!
When you get confused so you watch your own how-to video😂
At least he knew right where to go to find the information! LOL I laughed at that part too....
Why not just crack open a Sol-Ark 12K manual? What a rip off.
Right at 2:26. Delightful.
i cant believe i started watching you when you were in the camper...well done sir.
Same
I could be having the Worst day, then I get the biggest smile when I watch your videos! Thanks, Will!
I don't feel so bad anymore. Even Will has to refer to Will's videos from time to time!
😂😂😂😂
when you're so good at what you do, you're your own SME.
I was glad to hear about the Farrell's on the PV wire ends going into the inverter.
I'll definitely remember that
My biggest take away from this video. Save $1000ish on the 12K over the 18K. But then spend that $1000ish on air compressors. Thanks for the advise Will
Only if you have enough batteries lol
You came a long way guy. I'm just thinking back about your hand tools7 years ago (among other things.). Happy for you man.
Man, it’s great to see how much your channel has grown. Keep up the good work.
I love watching your videos and seeing your enthusiasm, excitement and surprise lol
I doubt I will ever need this system and I really don't understand much of it but I am trying to learn. Thank you for a great video especially the part where you looked up your own video LOL
"you're only saving $1300 or something" like it's pocket change. LOL. Love the multi air compressor testing setup, genius idea!
You should set some up! They work so well for testing surge. Super fun
Which one would you buy haha that transfer switch is a deal for the price on 18k
Downloading this video to have it forever. Good info and this looks like the perfect unit for my garage area.
I know what a great unit. Of course they came out with an after I bought the 18KPV I've never hooked up. It's been sitting for 6 months. Very bad thing to do if for some reason it doesn't work properly. Might mess with my warranty if I needed it Hopefully that won't happen I better get started on it soon though.
I'm pretty sure I could have got by with this unit instead of the 18KpV and saved a few bucks... But I have The good one at least 🎉
Okay, I enjoy seeing your reactions when something greatly supercedes your expectations. I want to see the unedited edition!? Because your go to heat gun and car lift actually let you down by working! lol
Keep the video flowing
Probably one of your best videos. Informative and exciting! Gives me confidence in my 18kpv.
Do you think you'll be able to do this kind of video on the NHX, New Growatt and maybe one of the SRNE 10kw inverters? I know that would be a lot on your plate. These are all getting a lot of interest on the forums. 10kw units at good prices. One reviewer doing simular tests on all of them would be amazing.
Thanks Will😁
I love my 18k, this educational videos are so good for the community
18k is such a beast
I have an 18k running my whole home with a 200a service. Rarely ever touch the service anymore. 2 batteries and 12kw of solar on it currently. adding another array soon. Putting me to around 16kw of solar. Hardest part was getting gov permission and permits to pull my meter for the work. The actual install is dead simple.
@WillProwse I've had my 18 KPV for almost 6 months now, and I've never hooked it up. I hope and pray that I can get started on it sometime soon. I have a little compound that I've been using one LV 6548 sun gold model for about a year now or more and I haven't really needed the 18 KPv that's why I haven't hooked it up I guess that plus laziness..
I hope ing to be able to wire it properly. I'm still not totally understanding all the wiring so well. Thanks for the videos. I'll definitely be going over them again when I finally get that thing going. I'm going to have six server rack batteries. I'm wondering if I'm going to need to have battery communication. When I start working on it, I'll ask a couple of questions on one of the videos and maybe one of the group to answer them or yourself if you end up seeing it by chance. Welp, thanks for listening😊😊
Really appreciate the effort you're putting in on these inductive loads.
Bro i was looking for your recommendation on 12v batteries and I did not know how to find you. I searched plantar faciitis on youtube and i remember your name is will. but there is a channel called ally mendoza with all your old foot videos, i love you and God loves you. and im still wearing zero drop shoes from lems
I like how you went out to buy 4 big compressors for this test lol. That is quite impressive that it will run all those starting at same time.
thank you great introduction - loving seeing this new tech - just wish it was available back in 2019 when I was buying Schneider parts. Next one definitely
now you have 4 air compressors -- lol -- nice test loads for sure
mmmm, I need an air compressor for when my diversion load water heater reaches max temp and my panels are searching for a load to power.
i love how you have more money than what you know what to do with and still go shopping at harbor freight.
Harbor Freight is awesome. Not for everything but you can't beat the pricing on some of their stuff.
I think that is how you get a pile of more money than you know what to do with
If I could start over in my career, I would have gone the electricity route. It's all so over my head. Makes my head hurt trying to imagine diy'ing my own solar here at home. Fascinating stuff. Love all your vids.
Start small. Baby steps.
Cash is king.
@@mycabinlife1291 that is my intent to pay in cash, and build up to it.
I totally agree. All the wiring is so over my head as well. I do have a small system going so at least I got a start.
Will is like your buddy from college explaining things in his garage, excited by the latest tech toy. I like the hinges and latch on the wiring cover. Hate that my 6000XP uses 6 small screws on its cover.
Wow man! Great test, had no idea they came out with this inverter! I'm on the 6K now I wish I would have saved for this one lol
Thanks for all your videos. The 12k just wasn't big enough for me so I ordered the 18k along with Aptos panels, batteries and AC unit. I followed the links but eventually ended up with a custom quote by email so I made sure they knew you referred the business. Hope it worked out.
I was looking at the 18Kpv just for the well pump surge capacity, now I see the 12Kpv is enough. I'll also need fewer parallel batteries to get the amperage for continuous use. Thanks for the video.
Interesting development. It is closing in on the SRNE 8 kW and 10 kW. Better quality and support for slightly more money.
That's a really impressive collection of air compressors. You know, admitting you have a problem is the first step....
Great Video. I would advise placing a bushing/grommet where the battery cables are entering to prevent the metal from rubbing the insulation off over time.
Very cool. Looks like they are pretty close to perfecting home energy storage batteries.
agreed.
Love your reaction!
Will we need a Anker F3800 teardown video. You're the hero we need
Insanely awesome! Thanks
Great review and test. One test parameter of interest for off grid applications would also be the idle current draw of the inverter. It's another factor in the inverter size choice. I wish you could add that on the notes for this review.
Dang it I forgot!!
absolutely love all the videos! but…. 🤣 no mention of price. i’d also like to know about decibels. opening it up, i know gets monotonous but is still fun- maybe that will come later.
on a separate matter, i think a big perk for paralleling 6ks is the redundancy. if you’re really off grid, as in, remote, then it’s nice to know you have 1 or 2 more if one should fail.
You KNOW your videos are good when you go back to reference your own video for information!!! : )
Ikr
been waiting for this one!!
Very impressive, thanks for spending the $$ to perform these tests to confirm the capacity.
This test is hilarious. This is very interesting. Great video
Thank you will I have learned a lot from your videos even build a working very small power system from you 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💞💞💞
I furreled my battery cables to my 18k. The solar its a MUST. But it really helps get those large fine strand cables fully in to the battery lugs. The AC cables do not need furrels as they are large strand rigid cables
Looks like a great unit!
Wow, what a beast! I just started playing with the 6000xp and I thought that was impressive..
I just got mine running. Kind of wish I waited for this as the 18k was a little overkill for my purposes. Good luck!
Will's gonna get a Dr. Frankenstein thing going trying to load down these inverters. You should totally put a Jacob's Ladder in the background of your shop somewhere. 😆⚡👍
Let's see what happens -- so valuable. Thank you!
This works out, been looking at inverters
Love how excited this made you 😂. Now, I need to design a system around one of these. Thank you for your testing and knowledge dumps, it sure helps us normies get down the right path.
Been watching your videos!! And thanks 😁
Excellent call-out for surge capacity! A horsepower rating would be cool to know too, for pumps and power tools.
This is great content! I'm trying to down-select a system, and videos like this really help! BTW, you should stop as soon as your torque wrench clicks, and don't go for a second click. Otherwise you may (will) over tighten!
With this fine strand wire you have to wiggle it and then torque it multiple times to get it to spec. It's just awful haha
Well done 👏
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing
CANT‼️,,Stop🛑,,watching these Videos,,,,I am really geting Smart😎
If you put some nolox on the threads of the lugs, they won't squeak when you're tightening them and they will get a little tighter.
I wonder if Will has his old RV channel that he had several years ago. He had a lot of great information on that channel as well.
Nice great inverter watching from the Philippines
Perfect size for my house 🙌🏽
this must have been a coordinated effort. I just got an email from eg4 announcing this new inverter and then Will drops this same day which had to have taken weeks to prepare.
Great video and great content!😊
Love your videos man
Great video as usual
Pretty high level electrical talk . I hope to catch up . Interesting possibilities I see . Thanks
even though my plans are for a power "shed", being sealed units means I might not need to work as hard at closing the envelope and conditioning the space. plus, any thing that helps keep critters out of the critical bits, is always a good thing.
These videos are nice. Just wish I had the income to support my solar dreams haha
Same result as using Victron MP that's impressive ;)
sometimes you get stuff wrong in your videos but usually the very next video you always correct yourself. most people get to your age and stop learning and just get defensive. thanks for uploading.
Thank you for sharing this with us six stars
Will watching Will for advice is pretty epic
thanks Will.
Looks great!
One thing I would love to see is how fast these EG4 inverters switch between Grid and Inverter mode. Thats one thing I wish I had known about the LVX6048. Mine has a pretty bad transfer switch function.
My 6000xp transfers from pv to grid so fast that my computers stay on and I don't notice any light flicker. My battery may be providing a little cushion though.
@WillProwse, protect your hearing! Hearing loss is permanent. Hearing loss is cumulative.
Love your videos.
I totally agree I've always worn ear plugs For many years and it was one of the best things I've ever done. Actually something I really listen to my supervisor about. Because I was stubborn but for some reason I followed his instructions and I'm sure glad I did 30 40 years later. I can't imagine how my hearing would be if I would have never worn ear plugs
No matter what tools I have...your tools are bigger better than mine.
Good testing, should probably wear some electrical isolating gloves when going back and forth touching an open breaker panel. Otherwise good stuff, God bless 🙏
Crazy good video
Dude . Love your edits. Make me need to do better on mine.
Nice video, sir!
This seems almost perfect for an RV, I wonder if you fed it a 30A RV source that was split to feed both L1 and L2 and limited it to 15A on the AC input if it could deal with them being matching waveforms? If so this would be a big step up from the Victon x2 because the Victon is only 3kva and 24V on the battery side.
Looking forward to future content in that inverter-specifically what array configurations would be ideal. The SolArk 12k doesn't seem ideal for modern/larger high current panels
Thank you Will.
This is awesome, I've been hoping EG4 would release something smaller than the 18k, because i really dont need/want that much inverter, and the SolArk is getting pretty long in the tooth (and plagued with issues)
How's the idle draw? Thats some awesome testing of its surge capacity. Eat your heart out Schneider.
Nice all i need now is money to buy one.
I think you should that IF the inverter can trip and protect itself. Awesome video though👍
12K total AC was not quite enough for my needs but two of these 12K's which give me 16K AC looks like the perfect setup. That way I have some redundancy if one unit were to fail although with half the output. Very nice unit from EG4 and Will of course nailed the review.
You also get another PV input, 24kpv vs 18kpv. 2 18k would be too much for me, but 2 12k just right.
3 of those 12K units would be pretty sweet for getting quality three phase power in a workshop, where single phase is the only option from utility.
great testing is there some generic soft start adaptors / equip you could use if you don't have the surge capacity in your system?
I bought an 18kPV when they first came out (trade in... before the 6000XP's were available) & will need another inverter to go with it when I finish my house (23kW of panels) . Looks like I should have waited & gotten two 12kPV's?
Price of being an early adopter I guess. 😉 Since you really can't mix & match their tech (inverters or batteries), I think another 18kPV is still going to have to be the plan even though I will never be on-grid & never net-metering. etc.
My nature is to overbuild everything...the 18kPV accomplishes this, just at a steeper price.
That said, as noted many times before, I really think SS/EG4 should make the 18kPV's, the 6000XP's & now the 12kPV's all play nicely together in the same sandbox. Thereby allowing mixing & matching as well as & ESPECIALLY forward & backwards compatibility. It gets awfully expensive trying to start over each time... unless you are you Will. 😂
So amazingly proud of you!
PLEASE reach out to the rest of your generation!
They don’t have the passion or motivation that indwells you!
Very nice!
awesome information.........thank you.
This is awesome
Like your vids, great info. How would this compare to the Walrus Arctic all in one? Thanks
10:47 your face is priceless
Hi Will nice content as always. What is your opinion about microinverters vs string inverters? Thanks.
All good stuff. Ty
Hmm, I may need to look into doing the 12K and I am currently working on my BOM, but now you tossed in another option.
Thank you!!
Looks like a good product. I know you’ve said you’re going to look at the new Midnite AIO, any chance you’re going to look at the new 10kW Growatt AIO?
You are awesome.
