This video is perfectly timed. I'm 90kg and my new 29'r has a hard time stopping my "inertia" w/ it's stock 160mm rotors. I just ordered a pair of Trickstuff's 180'mm. I've hear everything they mfgr is really well made.
After replacing my full Guide RSC brakes ( quality issues) for Shimano SLX 2pot. I had really noticed the braking wasn't as good anymore. Decided to replace f180/r180 with f223/r203......Holy what a difference!!! The points much better with just the 2 pot brakes. This is a must upgrade especially for bigger riders.
I will have to do some more testing with my mechanical brakes to see if I am really overheating my Hope 160 180front on warm summer days and steep downhills and a lot of braking, or if it was my Shimano M6000 brakes that leaked, I am done with Shimano brake, leaks and more leaks, can't take it anymore.
but otherwise the Hope rotors did well, so I will have to see if I need to go up in size too.

have you tried the Trick Stuff Maxima brakes? I will stick with TRP Spyke Dual piston mechanical brakes until I can have something that does not leak, and replacement leaks, or if I have multiple pairs all leak eventually, which is my experience with Shimano so far.
2 years, 1000 miles, 200,000’ descending on Hayes Dominions. No leaks, best brake I’ve worked with. (I work at a bike shop, so I’ve worked with many different brakes. No Trickstuff, though. Yet. )
Responding again to your video. How are these rotors holding up or are you still running them? The website says 2.05mm thick but it seems they are just about 2mm thick according to your gauge. I went with Galfer 2.0mm thick rotors but they don't seem to play well with metallic pads. Metallic pads are super loud, like a train horn. Looking for some trickstuff sinter 260 power pads. Hard to find in the USA.
Yes I'm still using them and they're holding up great, my gauge probably needs recalibrating.

Hope also does a 225mm and more recently 220mm. I went for the 225mm with TrickStuff 840 power pads on my codes RSC and holy moly they are powerful!
I looked at the Hope 225mm but I couldn't find a mount for it, how did you fit yours?
Jed MTB I used a galfer +43mm adapter and used a small metal washer underneath the brake caliper to lift it that extra 1mm that’s needed. I thought about going TrickStuff 223mm but the hope are lighter and imho look better due to the black anodized spider. Theoretically it should even dissipate the heat better because of the aluminum.

I am going to switch front and rear to 223 Galfer rotos. Coming from 203 with only 1,5mm thickness on both ends. Why? Well, I drive an ebike and don't bother the additional grams. Also, I see the trend that first we go one size larger on the front and stay small on the back (e.g. 200,180) and in the next year going 200, 200. So I skip this step :D Also: While I don't need as much force on the rear, I need the heat resistance. Mit 203 1,5 SRAM rotor heats up so damn quick and gives me fading and on the trails I ride, I cannot open the brake without dying.
Hi!! I have in the back a Heckmotor with Spokes 3,5 mm. Weight is 6kg. Bicycle (GT Agressor) all is 26 kg with Motor and Akku and another. I think to install a rotor 220mm + the brake Tektro M745 4 Pistons, because my brake is not strong. I go 40 km/h road and cross-country. What do you think, if the frame and fork will be destroyed? Magura has some Sexy new 220mm rotors that I'm interested in using - but my 34mm X-Fusion Sweep RL2 is speced to run a max of 203mm rotor... I see that the Fox 36s are speced for a 203mm max rotor as well - how is your fork holding up? How are you getting away with using that oversized rotor? (how much do you way? I'm 110kgs if it helps) Thanks...
No rubbing issues with the trickstuff rotors in the code calibers? They are plenty thicker than Sram centerline.
Yes they rub the pads very slightly when really leaning into corners, the Hope 220mm which are 1.8mm don't rub from the testing I've done of them, so I'd recommend them if you want to avoid any rubbing.

Where do you get the post mounts for the code calipers to run these bigger rotors please?
I just use the ones made by the company that makes the rotors as SRAM only do a 220mm mount.
Do you know if it’s possible to run a 223 on a 2018 fox 36?
Fox wrote me max size is 203mm.

so as a guy who desires front wheel traction whilst braking on the steeps, what are your preferred front tires? is that a Vigilante 2.5 on front of the Wrecker?
I been running a vigilante 2.6 which has been very good, the continental der baron Projekt 2.4 is also good, I've just put on a wtb 2.5 verdict.
You still like 223mm ?
Yes, I'm running them front and rear now as I really like the extra control it gives.

@@jedmtb haha! See my previous comment. Going to bigger rotors it is always like "well, nah, just front" and then short time later, go big with the rear too. And why shouldn't we? Cost is nearly the same. Just the damn comments about our big dinner plates :D
@@magicmacify I think full e-bikes should all have 220+ rotors front and rear as they generate a lot of heat and the weight isn’t a issue, only reason not to is there can be frame clearance issues on the rear brake mounts.
