  • We talked about siliciclastic rocks, so now let's talk about biogenic rocks. These are sedimentary rocks that are derived from the skeletal materials of living organisms. That's right, rocks made of things that were alive! The most abundant of these are carbonate rocks, or limestone. How do these form? How do we classify them? There is a lot to talk about here so let's dig in.

I REALLY need this for my story worldbuilding and map making. I think I was clueless about sediments and rocks before even trying to imagine fantasy plates. Thanks again, professor Dave.

Can you please continue the zoology series, because there's so many cool and obscure animals that need to be covered, and people are looking forward for them.

Neat stuff, Professor Dave. I have spent many years looking for tools fashioned by Native Americans - arrowheads, knives, and other tools formed from flint (chert). It's a fascinating hobby and to now better understand the methods of flint formation only adds to the fun! Thanks for you and your team's hard work!

One minor point and one critique. Micrite is pronounced with a soft "i" as in Mick, not Mike. The vast majority of geologists use the Dunham scheme of carbonate classification as opposed to Folk's. Mudstone, Wackestone, Packstone and Grainstone are used, with some variations in detail, to describe the mud and grain content in a limestone.

Great video Professor and what a fascinating fact that Diatoms contribute 20 to 50 percent of O2 production, though i wonder about the mechanism involved in such phenomenon 😊

Where did all the material that settled above the layers you said were older come from?

I always get confused with jasper, chert, flint, and chalcedony.
I usually know which one I am looking at, but the classifications get a bit confusing
