  • This is something I dismissed as garbage when it was first introduced into the game, but now I must eat those words because biofuel works. It might work a little too good. But here is the foundation for a self sustaining space hippy colony.
    Some numbers:
    The base was using 2.2kW
    I was only burning half of the produce and 4 rice plants was enough to keep the battery charged.
    Arc furnace will draw 16kW depending on stack size.
    Different foods produce different amounts of biomass but have different growing times, not sure what the optimal formula is but I am sure someone has worked it out.
    Harvie setup:
    • Stationeers Automated ...

    Thanks to your sterling efforts at bringing this to everyone's attention - loads of people are going to switch to biofuel, and in the next update, the devs are gonna make it the most underpowered power source in the game. This will cause lots of gnashing of teeth and a huge spike in Stationeers-based self harm incidents around the world! :D

    On Venus you can go straight into a furnace from the recycler. I have a recycler feeding into an open furnace. If I need a little power a drop some ferns into the recycler and charge up the base batteries.

    It also matters how quickly the charcoal is burned. A stack of 10 burns for a lot shorter time than burning them 1 by 1. When it's burned slowly, a single potato will give 1.2 MJ of power (20kJ per tick for 6 ticks, and each potato produces 10 charcoal). So 8 potatoes can fill a large battery with a little patience. But none of that is important. What is important is making alchohol. The humble potato has yet to unleash its true power!

    • @mikebell7813

      You could easily automate single charcoal feed. Whats the end difference between burning a 10 stack and burning 10 1 at a time?

    • @ketrix1594
      @ketrix1594 Před 3 lety +2

      @@mikebell7813 I got 440kJ from inserting a stack of 10 at once. It might not give the same each time. But that time it was 37% effective.
      Burning 10 charcoal one by one with 7 ticks (3.5 seconds) apart seems to give the most energy, the total energy fluctuates here too and I can't say how much it is on average. I did one measurement and got 1.52MJ from 10 charcoal. I think that's the highest I have seen. That was 127% effective.

    I would say this will be nerfed but after the addition of the mining rocket its clear the devs intend high positive yields. Consider the Op'ness of trading as well.
    Its my guess ( i hope im right ) that some very hardcore events ( optional per save id assume ) are going to be coming to be able to balance and actually make use of the easy to obtain extreme net positive systems

    Im pretty sure this is going to be my power loop going forward. Windmills are loud, im not a fan of repairing Solar Panels though eventually i do just make heavies but still. I am actually surprised you didn't do an output comparison of 1 piece of dinosaur to 1 piece of charcoal in this vid since you like to drill down to those levels, either way, still a great vid. if only you could turn the dead hookers in to biomass for fuel you'd be set for power.
    (I might do said test tonight and post results coz now i am curious)

    • @cowsareevil7514

      It still works. Plants don't produce as much biomass anymore so you will need more than 2 plants to power your base now.
      This setup is a manual refill but you could easily get the sorter to send the seeds back into the inputs.

    • @IamGhede

      @@cowsareevil7514 Thank you for all your help. It was like I was too afraid to even try Mips before your tutorials. Now it's so much fun trying to figure it out.
      I enjoy the experimenting too. Modifying your design I tried to write to multiple harvies using the sb command. DIdn't work. Then I noticed the harvie I used had a different hash so I went and changed it and you'll never believe it. Yup it still didn't work. Was still fun though.
      Scraping that project I moved on to just trying to get the harvies to harvest seeds when seeding. They kept trying to harvest even when they finished taking both seeds already though. I noticed you put in a check in the harvest section to make sure a plant is there. I figured I could check the seed quantity and put in the same check but even that resulted in the same behavior. Endlessly harvesting seeds that are no longer there until the next growth phase. I think the problem I'm running into there is "seeding" is found in logic but no logic slot section? So yes even when the plant has 0 seeds it still shows as seeding but there isn't a slot to count the quantity of seeds. If I expect a constant though then hand fertilizing would break the automation.
      Another fail. Did I mention it was still fun though? hahaha
      I gave up a ripped it all out unfortunately. Well I didn't give up. I figured if I'm going to fail I may as well do it spectacularly. I'm building a gas furnace! I'm sure nothing bad will happen.

    • @cowsareevil7514
      @cowsareevil7514  Před 3 lety +1

      The devs still need to do a bit of work on the seeding logic. I used a counter to count the seed so it stops after 2. Then reset the counter when planting a new plant.
      If you just get harive to collect 1 seed and then use a sorter to immediately send the seed back to the input, you have a set and forget power plant.

    • @hurgar7596

    • @cowsareevil7514
      @cowsareevil7514  Před 3 lety

      You can use sorters to split the produce among the harvies for replanting. But the rice stacks to 60 in the input slot, you only have to refill it about once a week, so I didn't bother.

    • @pvstiphout
      @pvstiphout Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the response. I know how to build system in stationeer. Basic logic is oke. But the ic programming is not my thing, yet.
      Doesn't this setup get blocked if the gen runs only when the battery is low?

    • @cowsareevil7514
      @cowsareevil7514  Před 3 lety

      The system will back up so that is another reason to keep the generator going. The sorters will split alternate outputs in default mode with no programming.
