    I ended up getting my first eink and it is the Air 3C. I thought the battery was going to be an issue but it gives me a screen tkme of around 9hours (2 days of usage for me) which is good enough. So far my eyes are liking it.

    The two screens are exactly the same. Each individual screen has it's own imperfections, no two are alike. You could buy 2 x 3C's and see the differences between the two.

      @jeffreymoss  Před 9 měsíci

      I think everyone is getting the stripe. Thankfully it's only there when front lighting is on, and at least it's consistent along the side. That's a bummer about the pixel. I have a dead pixel on my monitor (it's stuck on red) and for years my eyes just zeroed in on that until I somehow found a way to let it go.

    Any concerns about security? I understand Boox isn't forthcoming with a device security policy. Some are concerned about their lack of openness and transparency - such as not following open source standards when it comes to their modifications to Android. Concerns over it "phoning home" to China. Do you take any precautions with a Boox device in terms of security? I see a lot of enthusiasm for Boox but still not enough discussion about trusting them with data and sending personal information back home. Personally I am still on pause because of security concerns. I would appreciate your feedback.

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I don't trust them. Which is not to say they have done anything wrong, that just reflects my approach. My general uses of the device do not really need much security, but when I used the Boox in my work environment, I didn't create an account and I backed up files onto my computer vs. any type of cloud solution. I take the same approach with the Supernote as well.

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 8 měsíci

      OneNote works for sure, as I've tested that before. It's a bit odd, in that you write out your notes and then it converts to whatever settings are in OneNote for drawing, but it's certainly functional. Evernote I don't have any experience with. The app will certainly work, but how well is not clear to me.

      @bellissimo4520 Před 10 měsíci +2

      Well, in terms of the darker screen, you just have to make a choice between color or black-and-white. There's currently no way around it. All color e-ink screens are slightly darker than the black-and-white ones.

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 10 měsíci

      That's true. But yesterday I was reading a novel, sitting about 10 feet away from the light in my study, and generally the lighting isn't the greatest in that room. But I never felt the need for front lighting. I was surprised at that. As time goes on I'm starting to feel that the background of a K3 screen might not be the liability it's generally assumed to be. @@bellissimo4520

    • @davidr1431
      @davidr1431 Před 10 měsíci

      @@bellissimo4520 Absolutely. Against my expectations I have returned the Note Air 3 C due mostly to the darkness of the screen without front lighting. Again, against my expectations, I have not (yet) returned my Remarkable 2, which is meeting my needs nicely. I have found that the contrast is a real deal breaker for me. Now if they bring out a B&W Note Air 3, that might be the perfect device for me.

      Laughing at myself as I read my own comment while thinking of buying the 3C again.
      I am doing a maths degree and E-ink tablets are so good for the volume of practice.
      The 3C also has simultaneous reading and great note taking abilities which the remarkable does not have.

    Thank you. My main reason for looking into this device is in order to save my eyes. I am wondering though about the practical difference offer by this product for my eyes. For example, when I use the backlight on this device would there be any actual difference for my eyes compared to a LCD screen?

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 10 měsíci

      The device actually has front lighting, so the light source goes down on the screen and then reflects back to your eyes, so it's not as direct as an LCD. I think the experience is quite different. Front lighting can be a bit bright at the top setting, but you can bring that down until it's at a good level for you. I've never strained my eyes when working with an Eink device.

      I think so. I have used an e-ink tablet for many years now, and have read countless books on it, and I used the backlight a lot. I never found it as strenuous as a regular computer screen. I think the reason really is that the light is not directly shining into your eyes, but just reflected by the screen, just like the environmental light.

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 6 měsíci

      Most Android apps will download to this device, but that's different from being optimized. Reading apps tend to work really well, for example. Other apps will be more of a hit and miss affair. If there's a specific app you are curious about, and it's free to try, I can look into that for you. In terms of GPS, I'm not aware of that functionality on the device.

    What can you say about the reflective properties of the screen? As far as I know, the screen is Air 3C more matte than screen of Tab Ultra C, is this a problem for Tab Ultra C?

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Both can have glare from reflection. I'm not sure one is better than the other. Usually this issue can be resolved by repositioning the device or putting on front light to full. Glare is an issue, but in my experience it can be easily resolved.

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The Tab Ultra C has a camera but the 3C does not. I haven't used it myself, but I took a quick look based on your question. You can use an app on the device to take a picture of the document, and then you can write on the document. Once done, you have the ability to share the document via various apps. For example, you can upload it to Google Photos as a PNG fil. Once there, you can then use your phone to send the file. That's one way to accomplish that, I'm sure there are others. The file can be 'printed' while in the app to a PDF.

      Dark-themed apps is gonna be non-dark.
      It's trying to use color inks instead of using the black-and-white layer of e-ink, but there's not enough colors to mix a black that's why it's producing some weird hue. I think it's fixable with firmware if the GPU is instructed to use black-inks for gray and blacks instead of the colored e-ink layer.

    Honestly I think your comparison is a little flawed (in the context of deciding between the TUC Pro and the 3 C I mean). The TUC Pro is quite an upgrade processor wise over the TUC. It’s odd therefore to claim the 3 C is a better choice than the TUC Pro performance wise, when it’s clearly a step down in terms of pure performance metrics (CPU, RAM and storage).

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 10 měsíci

      I would agree that my argument might be in error as it relates to the processor, however I do have a few points that I should have mentioned in the video that supports my position. First, the gap in Ghz between the TUC and the 3C is roughly 0.4. The gap between the 3C and the TUCP is also roughly 0.4. The gap between the TUC and the TUCP is 0.8, so that is a large margin and may have an impact on performance. But I saw even performance between the TUC and the 3C, so it's not unreasonable to think the same might be true between the 3C and the TUCP. Or if there is a difference, it will could be subtle. Second, in my experience, Eink devices do not benefit from spec jumps in quite the same way that phones, tablets, and computers do. Improvements tend to be more incremental in nature. I think that may be due to the limitation of what the Eink screen itself can do, but that's just speculation on my part.
      We'll know for sure when comparisons come out between the TUC and TUCP.

    • @bluein2red423
      @bluein2red423 Před 10 měsíci

      @@jeffreymossYes that’s fair I think. Ultimately I think it’s really a pure form factor choice between these two. Things like the volume buttons for example might be insignificant to some/most, but to me they’re quite a big deal - to be able to configure them as page up and down for web browsing for example is excellent. I find scrolling via the touch screen on e-ink to be quite tedious.

      The C Pro and related devices are very specialized in my mind. You really need a use case that matches it, otherwise the value probably isn't there. For example, the need to be mobile with an attached keyboard might justify it, but again, most folks won't have that use case.
