  • Real stories of transformation and hope: Addiction Recovery.
I just wanted to let you know that your methods truly work. Living with addiction is really difficult, and this past week has been tough too. Your videos and teachings make it a little easier for us to navigate through these uncertainties. I kept trying to do all you teach, and slowly, things started getting better. My husband never even touched alcohol until 2016. He started drinking socially in 2017. His drinking started to escalate during Covid and became a noticeable problem by 2022.
We were constantly fighting, yelling, and calling each other names, only making things worse, and then early this year, I found your CZcams channel. It took me a little while to truly understand the problem and address the problems I was creating in the relationship. It’s taken so many bad things to catch his attention, like… feeling bad all the time, missing work, fights with his family, financial strain, feeling sick every morning, losing a lot of weight, a DUI, and blackouts.
But I can tell things are starting to shift. I'm hearing a lot of talk about change! I know in my heart that he truly wants to quit alcohol. Recently, my husband quit for two weeks. Yesterday, he had a really bad day at work and drank alcohol to cope with it. He ended up in a blackout, and I had to have friends pick him up. I don't know if I did the right thing, but after this episode, he went for his doctor's appointment today, so I am hopeful. The doctor feels he is really trying to quit but is having a tough time dealing with cravings and stress. The doctor prescribed him that medicine (Antabuse) that makes you sick if you drink.
I can tell that my husband is truly committed to starting his medications and conquering this alcohol problem. I know things won't fix overnight, but I think he is on the right path, which is helping calm my anxiety. Again, thank you so much for everything! I would have been lost without you. You are touching lives around the world with your videos.
May God bestow you with peace, happiness, well-being, family time, and so much more. My journey started on CZcams with Johann Hari’s talk called “Everything you know about Addiction is Wrong”, and then later, I found you, and I only have gratitude today.

You’re so on point in explaining how the addict becomes delusional and the more we try to talk about an issue the worse they become. And thank you for clarifying that the addict also has some delusional mindsets even after they are not using, I have been trying to understand this for years.

I did all the right things. Supportive, kind, not the bad guy role, tried to understand.
He then went on a drinking bender in Amsterdam and cheated with a prostitute. Ruined our 14 year relationship. He then went in a shame spiral before he told me. Avoided me, didn’t want to look at me after he told me. Said I was the best thing that ever happened to him and he ruined it.
    Alcoholism is very sad

So glad to have found your channel a few days ago as I have been searching for answers to help and cope with AD and AS for years. You explain everything so incredibly clearly. Thank you for talking about the addict being in paranoia and delusional thinking, this gives me clarity regarding the ways my daughter (especially) behaves and the reason I can’t get it across to her.

My spouse has no natural consequences. He has enough money. He is retired. He does nothing all day but TV, sleep 10 to 13 hours a day, and drink. He acts normal to most people but I see the difference in his demeanor and health. His health is declining physically and cognitively… and only I can see it. He denies anything his doctor says who is the only other person who knows about his heavy drinking. What consequences can happen? He sees me behaving no differently than I ever have except an occasional mention about the doctors concern for his bloodwork and liver. I don’t react, I’m the same as always so he thinks we are fine. What consequences??? I am lost.

PLEASE can you talk about mental illness and addiction. In Ireland they will not give medication for mental illness until a person is off alcohol for 4/6 weeks. For someone who is really struggling with their mental health is so difficult.

? Can you address alcohol and senior citizens? I am 67 and have grown up drinking since the age of 16. I have been enjoying 2 or 3 glasses of wine every night since retired along with my husband. I don’t feel that I have a problem but it is a bad habit. So I just stopped cold turkey 2 weeks ago and find I have more energy and feel great. Not missing it at all. My husband on the other hand still drinks nightly. I think seniors need to be concerned about drinking at all. Any insight? Thanks!

I finally left my AH earlier this year and filed for divorce with his belongings respectfully returned to him. I have been radio silent and trying to heal this year. He tries to find contact and still abuse me for items of no monetary value threatening police. Is this simply revenge behavior, and surely he will never realize the psychological abuse he caused for years and multiple infidelity? Quesfion for you, Amber...I don't think you were able to get to it at today's live 😞 ty so much for all you do ❤️

QUESTION I understand your recommendations are helpful with substance addictions - thank you! Do you think they are as effective with process addictions such as sex, gambling, codependency and the like?

Well what about a different career that helps people get better like a physical therapist who has never had an accident or never had any reason to have physical therapy. does that make her not able to be a good physical therapy Dr. ?
of course not that’s why they go to School That’s why they learn their career that’s why they take a year to work for free with people in a clinic so they can learn what people who are hurt are going through, and they learn hands on experience! Everyday they’re learning new skills so they can be the best of the best in their field! So why would you say that Amber has not had any experience on addiction’sbecause being a substance abuser ? Does that matter? You say that because she was not a substance abuser herself? You don’t know what her private life with family and friends was like, neither do I but I can tell you she has helped me in understanding my 2 grownup addicted sons who are struggling to get out of their addictions. Ambers knowledge and experience with people who have many different types of addictions.
Amber is amazing and very helpful to many loved ones of families and friends and I am pretty sure she’s seen a lot of horrible situations when she was doing her residencies and she continues to study every day. I think she’s is a very very good expert on the subject! Amber you are great at what you do and I thank you for everything you’re teaching me (and my sons) you’re right on!!!❤

It’s so easy to quit if you do it right, it’s been over 9 months and I don’t crave a dro, what finally did it for me was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal when I ended up go’ogling and reading Steffon Barkload’s Quit Drinking Forever, not even within the first 30 days after I quit, did not need AA meetings or meds either.

IDK if I was lucky, but it’s been over 9 months and I don’t crave a drop of alcohol, the key difference was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal after go’ogling and reading Steffon Barkload’s Quit Drinking Forever, not even within the first 30 days after I quit and told no one, did not need AA meetings or meds either.

Amber is not an addiction expert. You can't be an expert without being an addict yourself.

hmmmmm..I've heard this from my addicted daughter. Feels like a way to disregard any logical advice JUST because the advice didn't come from an addict...seems counterproductive
