- A world exclusive interview series with the legendary, yet illusive, man behind The RAH Band. Richard Anthony Hewson is 85 years old and still makes music every day. Following a strict regime, he heads to his home studio every morning where he still uses the same analog synths, drum machines and effects from his 80s era. His incredible story has never been told in full, until now... This CZcams interview series reveals the tales of one of the UK’s most endearing and prolific composers, and possibly the most unlikely global viral sensation of recent years.
Episode 2 coming soon!

An amazing funk band, one of Britain’s best funk/rnb acts of all time👍❤️Clouds across the moon is my most loved funk/space pop tune ever! So cool to watch this documentary, thank you rah band for letting us be part of your story and musical journey! Excellent video.❤
Interesting I love their song messages in the stars , and music video I found the style so cool a mix of 80s Spacey city pop, funk vibes
I love messages from the stars
I love that original song for many years and great to know now what's behind that sound and how it was born... really GREAT!! That Song Is In My Ears and Mind really Timeless !! RAH thank you.
The one and only Mr. Hewson 👏
The rah band are truely something different
I love this man, so much 😍😍. Thanks for everything, Mr Hewson.
"The Crunch" 1977! In and around the punk scene! We all took it for a punk instrumental! Still sounds fresh today 47 years on! 👍👍
Wow, what a career... and only just started on the RAH Band stuff. Clouds across the moon is one of my all time favorites.
A great video and I love your music. Thank you Richard.
One of the most underrated heroes of music!
the definition of a LEGEND 💗
The one and only Mr Hewson, proud to be part of the team!
Amazing stories! - What a legend !
Your songs are so good
That was excellent! Thank you for doing this. Loving your music setup and you're spot on - if you change something, you could lose the essence of the music, so keep those old codgers going!! The Crunch was (and still is) my favourite RAH Band track. Loved it since I saw it on Top of the Pops way back in 1977 and still listen to it often (and the remixes of it) right up until this day. Loving and very much appreciating the RAH Band Story sets as well, can't wait for the next one! Thanks once again, keep up the good work. 👍🎶🎹❤👏
Legend
What I wouldn’t give to write a song with this man 😊
Clouds across the moon is in my mind more often than Roman empire, true story!

Absolute genius! Proud to be part! ❤️
YOU ARE A LEGEND SIR! I was club DJ back in the 80's and was always getting asked to play THE CRUNCH - Rah Band - I remember in it completely! OLD is definitely good! I got into synths in 1984 bought my first synth a Roland SH101, MANY years later I converted a bedroom into my MIIDI room ( soundproofed with egg boxes I collected! long before this luxury foam you can buy!) Ive had over 40 synths and keyboards in my 60 years. 👍👍👏👏👏👏 Spectres wall of sound was AWESOME! btw I am a fan of Trance and Euphoria and a club remix of the crunch would go down great in the clubs!
Here in France with my family we love your songs Thank you 🙏
He's such a cool, handsome, smart looking dude, I just know he enjoys what he does!
Hi Richard, loved your recent RAH Band boxsets done brilliantly by Cherry Red. My favourite has to be Perfumed Garden and so glad the single version was included. Coming a close second is Falcon and then Sam The Samba Man. Will you ever release the single edits of Falcon and Slide as they were sadly missing from your boxsets?
fascinating
Richard Hewson and Mike Batt too for that matter, should be fully knighted for their services to music.
Esta canción cambio mi vida, gracias ❤
Loved messages ,but Sam the Samba man is my favourite still play it. The whole album was so beautiful . Thanks Mr Hewson
Love this!
Such an interesting story of the RAH band... super fresh and fantastic even now! I can really hear the love placed into every lyric and sound... I reallyeally love "Something About The Music" album the most with a relatable song like "A Woman's Life" and a song ready to get you on your feet with "Dream Street" i just cant get enough !
Forever my favorite song!
Have you considered making a tutorial series of how go about making music? The style of music you have is so good.

seems like an awesome dude
A certified badass.
what a lovely person!
His best track is like a true gem
Dear Mr. Hewson, it‘s just fascinating to listen to the legendary man behind the Rah Band. Could you tell us the story about the making of Clouds Across The Moon? Was ist all recorded in your home studio? Even the strings? And how long did it take to programm the drum machine (Linn Drum I guess) and the synthesizers? How long did you work on this masterpiece? For me it is one of the most beautiful songs ever produced! The sound, the choice of instruments, the singer‘s voice, the sound effects, the whole atmosphere, it‘s like a summer night captured on tape! Thank you for this and many other stunning tunes Mr. Hewson!
I made the basic track in my home studio then added the strings in DJM studio, The drum box was a TR 909 and the synth was a Roland JX 8P. I'm glad you like it!
Wow! This is so interesting, thank you for taking the time to answer me Mr. Hewson.
I was born in 83' and I only listen to the music of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. And Clouds Across the Moon is in the top three of my all time favorites.
Creating such a perfect song is just fascinating for me. Today’s possibilities in music production seem endless due to digital audio workstations. But isn‘t it suprising that today’s pop music often doesn’t even come close to the breathtaking beauty of analog recordings from the 60s 70s and 80s? The same for the compositions.
So I conclude that a certain technical limitation during production may be the key for better songs. Less distraction, less overwhelming sound libraries to choose from that result in the producer getting lost. And so does the first precious vision of a song too.
But the one thing that gives me chills every time I listen to Clouds Across the Moon is the perfection of it. It‘s such an uplifting dreamy atmospheric song, the melody and the arrangement is just so beautiful! But not only that! You mastered the technical side so perfectly, getting the vision of a song on tape, achieving that dreamy sound and being spot-on after all is a real challenge.
To get all these little robot and whirly laser sound effects right, the scratch sounds, the "operator" voice setting (I guess that was your voice😊) and all that…. I know how much work this is and you did it so perfectly! My utmost respect for this musical masterpiece Mr. Hewson.
my irl first middle and last name initials is R A H.
Why has the format changed? I loved the comments below the video. Not to the side, as this is.
