You need to look at videos of Chicago Bears Dick Butkus, from 1965-1974. He was known to hit so hard that he can bury you six feet under from the hit. Just look at some of the 1960’s and 1970’s videos.
These were nearly all 2000’s era plus hits the older generations were even more brutal as they’re were less rules and even less padding / protection for the players when taking such hits and arguably some of the most horrifyingly brutal hits were in the pre 2000 era of NFL as there was a lot more variation in the weights and physiques of players back then

That so called tackle (more like a blindsided elbow to the head) put Gifford laid out to sleep... and he didn't return to play another game for 18 months! It says that game was played in 1960... on Nov 20-my birthday!! I would be turning 3 yrs old! Lol In 1978, in a meaningless exhibition game no less... Daryl Stingley was permanently paralyzed on a hit by the Raiders' Jack Tatum, who never even took fault for what was deemed a cheap shot. The Raiders of old were known for their intimidating style of play. Those two incidents are available on film for people to see. Listen, in those days, defenders went out there to hurt you in the hopes that you'll be out of the game, and that was no secret! Want to see some brutal hits? Check out the NFL films from the 60s, 70s and 80s... then you folks can get an idea of how brutal this game really was!!

But there are more dangerous football hits as others mentioned Raiders' Tatum blindsided Pats' Stingley as Stingley tried to catch a pass during preseason game. That brutal hit made Stingley a quadriplegic for rest of his life until his death in 2007 at the age of 55. NFL and College are cracking down dangerous hits because of majority of veteran players from the past are suffering health issues such as CTE's.
No, hit #17 with official throws his cap means defender made an illegal hit because he hit receiver's helmet (head). Penalty - Personal Foul 15 yards and possible defender will get disqualification and ejected from that game. Then he will get fine or suspended by NFL.
That definitely was not Asante Samuel that hit Reggie Bush, it was Sheldon Brown. Its weird they even went through the video to find a random headline about Samuel getting fined... took more time to lie about it than it would have taken for a quick google search. This video had a few blatantly obviously errors
One of the worst hits that doesn't show up on any of these videos because it wasn't a hard hit or an illegal one was the one that ended Joe Theisman's career. Watching that leg snap was probably one of the worst things I've seen in the NFL.

bad list. any list of big hits in the nfl must have the cam hit on vernon davis. it was a leagle hit but looked so bad the refs threw a flag. its that brutal. if that hit isnt on the list (doesnt have to be number 1) its a bad list.

Darryl Stingly who played for the New England Patriots back in 70's took a hit from Jack "The Assassin" Tatum. The hit left Darryl paralyzed for life as a quadriplegic. Jack never even visited him after, nor apologized! 😡 I would say that should have been the #1 worst/dirtiest hit of all time.
