- After only a few bars it becomes obvious why the jury decided to award the GRAMMY in the category "Best Latin Jazz Album" to Prieto in 2019. With dancing ease and simple elegance Dafnis Prieto combines the traditional music of his old home country Cuba with the modern jazz sounds of his adopted country New York.
For the concert with the WDR Big Band in September 2019 in the RWTH Aachen /Germany, Prieto has enlisted the percussionist Eliel Lazo at his side. With "Out Of The Bone" (K. / A. Dafnis Prieto) the WDR Big Band features not only the master on drums but also their colleagues with fiery solos: Jens Neufang - baritone saxophone, Mattis Cederberg - bass trombone, Andy Hunter - trombone, Raphael Klemm - trombone.

Great. A pity the recording was not mixed so well. It could have been an amazing 2nd recorded rendition of Prieto's "Out of the Bone" next to the original album recording... Could hardly hear the initial trombone solo, etc. 😞

It’s in 7/4, if I remember correctly
But there are a lot of accents disguising the meter as well...

The WDR Big Band seems a little overwhelmed with this piece. The soloists are also a little off the beat. Maybe because the music deviates from the pattern that the band usually plays.
haha true, also in 6:08 the trumpets miss some notes but Dafnis was on point and remarked this missed notes to help the trumpets.
