- Factory Five and Snap-on® Tools have teamed up to create the first-ever 818C. A 2.3L eco-boost 4 cylinder engine, originally from the 2016 Ford Mustang, will bring the car incredible power.
Since 1995, Factory Five has been developing specialized kit cars from American classics to their own proprietary race vehicles.

Snap on describes their tool making process. How snap on stays in business amazes me.
Jared has the smoothest car dude voice on CZcams
I used to laugh at these guys products when I was building my Superformance 427/SC, but man they've come a long way. Really world class products now.
Tools used probably cost more than the car its self 🤣
100% truth hahahahaha
Yea I just looked up the torque wrench....$570
It’ll be more interesting if they can build 4wd & Awd Rally kit chassis, which is similar to Subaru and Mitsubishi, that can be use not just on Track racing only, but off road Rally racing. Especially winter seasons. Suspension can swap from OEM to after market suspension coil over. I’m sure some of us not just want a daily drive car, but a race car as our daily drive for all 4 seasons, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.
2.3 eco boost is basically like my old mazdaspeed 6 2.3 DISI engine. was a very fun engine
snap-ons are really awesome
Nice Machine. I wonder if the 2.7 Ford Eco V6 would fit?
I didn't know they were in wareham. Thanks only a 30 minutes drive from where I live and right by the Target I frequent.
Awesome! Coupe!!!
wish snap on would sponsor me with tools. id be set for life. working on motocross bikes with cheap harbor freight tools is frustrating haha dope video!
I have a ton of Snap on tools but you don't need to buy them to be the Best its Knowledge and Skill learning all phases of your Trade Profession I can put these Kit cars together with Craftsman tools or even Harbor Frieght tools just as fast and same quality if i was using Snap on its how you use your Hands and Brain There's No Quantum Super Computer that can Tune a Old Jaguar XKE Engine Better than I can. Good Luck to you
Oh what it must be like to build a car with all the right tools*That must be what heaven feels like*
Dave is forward thinking !!
Got to love the turbo 4 bangers, reminds of the Formula 1 days when it was not at all unusual to see 2.0 liter 4 engine making around a 1000 hp,but today,we have so much more, better everything, while I wouldn't recommend a 1000 hp 4 cylinder,it sure is fun to think about the possibilities.
Seems like the limitation here is that you're taking high wear parts from your donor car. Control arms, brake calipers, etc. Seems like you would be far better off for them to purchase in bulk the parts you need and ship them to you as part of the kit. They are using all new parts, but if you use a donor car, you are bolting on all of the problems from a worn out old WRX.
Its an interesting idea.I'd' like to build an 818 but i'm not sure about the Subreau Boxer Engine and I read about blown head gaskets or it uses way to much oil as a common problem, its nice to explore a different power plant.
Great videos, and unfortunately they were just 3. Would love to see your team building the Finnluxury Tritium kit in the summer.
Can i use new parts instead of a donor car? I want to build one of these as a everyday car, and im gonna put the trunk option in, but id rather use new parts
I was pumped for this 818 until i heard 4 cylinder. SNORESVILLE.
00 00 - 310 hp, I mean... That’s not too shabby.
Note to Snap-on marketing department. Had these videos been Factory Five with a Snap-on add in, as apposed to being Snap-on with a Factory Five add in, they'd have a view count in the millions....
Factory 5 should work on their 818 bodies so they fit better Some of the gaps are just ridiculous ask anyone who’s put together one of these cars
I'm a Automotive Master Mechanic& Technician 40+years exp Factory Five cars are Designed Very well and they have their you know what together. If I or a Clinent of mine was looking for kit car this is place to go. My Favs are Cobra and GMT I've worked on and driven some of the most desired Sports, Muscle cars and High End Exotics from that I know what a winner is and Factory Five Cars are Winners.
I thinking the trans adapter for the Ford would be 10% of the cost the build.
7:56 my milwaukee does that too, randomly lets go of the bit? I feel like these tools have way too much hype.
Good promo vid
I'm putting a Rotary engine in one if I get this car
I think I'm in love. 💘
Youre linking to the wrong video at the end (link to part 2 links to part 1)
There in Massachusetts omg...💯💯💯💥🔥🔥♥️🔥♥️🔥♥️🔥 Will the audi 5 cylinder tt rs engine fit on this chassis
a 1.8t version might be kick ass.
When you graduate from building RC cars...
I would use PEM or dzus or any of the other types of aircraft ,racecar fasteners on some of the exterior, interior panels.incase you need to disassemble ,or to get better access to some components.Using a thin gasket or o'ring will keep down any vibrations.A simple stiffening rib with a cheap bead roller works too, beer caning is annoying
So what is included in a factory five kit? All the parts and the pre welded frame? Is there an instruction manual? Are they street legal?
At least 3 cars!
Genuine question. Why square tubing and not circle?
can you guys register these kit cars in california?
How much do you think all those tools cost together anyway?
So essentially what you have done by putting the Eco boost engine in it is make the center of gravity worse
Can I put a Honda Type R 2.0L in this thing? Or what about a nice Italian V8 like the Quattroporte they are already mid-engine cars.
I want to see an 818 with a coyote swap
Probably won't fit but if it did why not stick a Porsche flat 6 in
because theyre crazy expensive and rare. this is an everymans car, $15k and you got a finished car, thats their objective with this model
A Subie flat 6 would be easier and cheaper and sound like the Porsche. That would be my choice with a supercharger.
there you have it FFR fans. put a I4 in it before an H6. 4 cyl length just means " shoulda been an LS3"
Loginw
Is this Ford related to mazdas 2.3 IL4cyl?
About how much do you estimate it would cost with no donor parts, all new
One consideration if your actually going to Race . Install 1/4" Steel plate on Driver's side Possibly Passengers too ....
We know cars crash and one of the Dangers of crashing is having things penetrate into the Driver space .
In the event that killed a local driver and discovery of a preventable future situation .
When the car left the track a tree stump went through the Steel door skin . As a result all cars have been now fitted with mandatory Steel plate to give maximum protection to Class Race cars example GT2 ...
We see steel poles and other potential dangers around the tracks we visit.
So take a little extra time if you intend to Race .
Install the extra protection.
Since making this change I think other drivers have been saved .
In Rally class driving.
I have damn near all the tools you guys used on this project
I was wondering if anyone has made one of these and if it's possible to mount a 2Jz in it?
I think it can't.. 1jz could barely to fit it... Why not consider k20? With the light weight chasis ,having heavy engine in it could ruined the weight ratio. Ofc those are my opinion. I drive both stock s2k and s2k with ls swap. I prefer more balanced weight ratio tho.
@@kino_8812 when I first saw this car I was thinking of a k20 turbo. 😎
Xman44x Tbh... i prefer supercharged K series. It just feel like it is NA since you supercharged it. Doesn't feel any lag . Anyway Vtec Yo!
@@kino_8812 that would be interesting. I'm planning to get a salvaged nsx and putting a k20 turbo in it.
doubt jack white watches snap on tools videos, but the music is a blatant rip off of blue orchid.
so your "upgrading" stock wrx brakes for some wilwoods? sti calipers are a direct bolt on, they are cheaper than the WW and they are roughly the same performance. thats sponsership for ya though.
Where is the video of the rat rod built with Harbor Freight tools? ; )
K20 kit?
3 years later & this build is still not factory supported. www.factoryfive.com/818/faqs/
Will the 2.3 Ford Ecoboost work in an 818 kit?
Currently, the 818 will only accept engines from a 02-07 Impreza or WRX directly. Factory 5 is considering the 2.3 Ford Ecoboost as an alternative engine to the Subaru unit; however there is no further information or timeline available at this time.
Snap On Tools USED to be king. Harbor freight has tools that have literally beaten Snap on in heads up testing. (NOT A JOKE, AND YES, IT ABOUT MADE ME THROW UP FROM SHOCK) THEY USED TO BUILD TOOLS TO LAST A LIFETIME....USED TO.
Can you put a Honda K24 in a 818C?
I want to know the answer to this same question
Now a 3.6 r swapped 818 do it
I hate how even snapon is impervious to gimmicky tools.
they didn't wear safety glasses while using the parts washer
They used common sense
Use safety glasses!
Don't just snap on!
Snap off.
Hey um totally just asking for a friend I swear uhhh can I put 35 inch off road tires a lift kit and a dodge ecoboost diesel uh I'm asking for a friend
This is a Snap-on advertisement not a car build!!
Must they do everything perfectly aligned to viewers opinion, these guys pros! If you think you are perfect you better take a gate to heaven right away cause this planet isn't for you! *Stop the Hate* and Enjoy the video!!
Fiero
Just found this. Why is J-Rod here?
i would love to drop a turbo k20 honda engine in this kit car.. it would destroy the gmt supercar with v8's
I am thinking about doing this maybe one day really wish someone else would pave the path away from the boxer engine
Is it just me or did Snap On sponsor this, lmao. Can they be more obvious.
1:01 Yeahh hard to find american v8 in malaysia...but we got v8 toyota 😂
Use Crapsman tools, build would cost half.
can u fit a v8 on this??
the question we all want answered...
no lol
the 2.3ltr 4cyl in the mustang is funny. it's putting a Mazda ricer engine in a muscle car.
I owe snap on 50 bucks a week for the rest of my life!!! What have i done.. I should of went to harbor freight..
Lower the price of the tools a little bit so we can afford & patronize made in USA.
Just a little bit, for us who likes USA made tools and who are trying to make the end meet day by day .... yep, just a little bit.
You made enough profits!
Videos where you point to, to see the engine dropped in are wrong. For that you got a thumbs down, QUALITY CONTROL!!!!!
fruit loop.
Music sound track is truly annoying.
Chassis welds look sloppy and amateurish.
Who ever did that safety wire on the 2 piece rotors needs to be fired, or re-trained.
To bad Snap-On is mostly Chain made... I found out later after i bought a small 3/8 electric impact. Never buy again
This is just ridiculous, an example why ie is aviation you see people all the time start a airplane build and there it sits and gets sold , i think this is the same , and that is what I know aviation
Too much mixed and matched parts makes build not practical
What makes me laugh is when they say an american classic in the cobra. It would be nice if they put out that the basic car is british.
Without a big ol v8,its just an AC Ace.
@@LeeePowers without an AC Ace there would be no cobra
We took the colonies now we claim the cars
Are you kidding me?
The amount of custom fabrication, custom parts, and welding needed to get this thing functional was absurd! Who the fuck could do this in their garage? It took a team of experts in a custom shop with all the right tools a few days to get this thing assembled. $25,000 in parts, but another $10,000 in expert assembly. This is not a deal. I have the feeling most people would give up after realizing how impossible the task is.
lmao a friend of mines uncle got it for his 15 year old kid and the dad got sick and the kid finished it solo as a present for when his dad fot better.
they have a full instruction book and all you do is strip the donor car, buy paint and install donor parts and paint. its that simple. these idiots just made it look crazy hard.
and actually all in it vosts about $16k painted tagged and titled if you search for a cheap donor
also it literally takes no welding or fabricating. it comes with the chassis welded and painted, all the parts that dont come with the kit... come from the donor car.
also over 500 people have done it in their garage
also they had the kit and a donor and it wasn't as easy as you just described, did you watch the video lmao
+Phoenix Franks yes...i did watch the video, seeing as I own one of these...its a LOT LOT LOT easier than you think. rolling chassis was done in 2 weeks
owned*
Piece of junk for over 30k
Have fun with no real world items like a defogger/defroster, or any kinda' climate controls whatsoever.....
A Subaru!? Only for liberals who can't afford a Volvo.
