Wanted to build this car for over the last decade and I finally got my kit in May. Loving the build process.
Iâve wanted one since I was 17 set a goal to buy one before I turn 25. Currently 20 with a good job and will be hopefully getting it with in 3 years
Excellent. This was my second choice. I ended up buying an RCR GT40. The engine is back ordered 6 months.
Congratulations Henry !! Happy for you man.
@@jamesdellaneve9005 How is the build going? I've been debating between the 2. Wonder which has more interior room...
@@MachRC9 Havenât got it yet. I am guessing that itâll come in the spring. I am trying to get a date out of Fran from RCR. GM ran out of camshafts. Yes, doing an LS3 in a Ford. My design brief is a weekender car that I can track. I am insulating it, putting on a little muffler and a nice interior and sound system.
Kit car production has become the spiritual successor to early automotive innovation and experimentation. The big manufacturers have generally lost their way with *design by committee.*
This is a cool toy and all but how exactly is it innovative?
Design by *government committee*. People don't understand that for the last 40 years, every year, more and more pages of regulations dictate the minutia of all the design and feature aspects of cars over certain production volumes.
No balls and no glory. Manufactures don't race the cars they build so no wonder they have absolutely no soul to them. Too much safety tech and soon car's will be capped through electronics to 70 mph.
@@ggletsplay5041 LOL you evidently have not driven many modern cars. Sure lots of electronic nannies so untrained drivers don't kill themselves but they got plenty of balls for people who know how to drive.
@@methos-ey9nf just wait till EVs take over, and they limit your speed depending on where you're driving.
So $22k for the partial kit, PLUS another $25k - $40k in parts, paint, etc. These usually run in the $50-$60k range to complete.
That is correct. And donât forget to factor the time=money aspect. And most kit cars have many little problems to fix and keep popping up. Itâs really a labor of âloveâ and to stay busy.
That depends on skills and expectations. I could no kidding build a street able example for o/a $35k
@@drewschumann1 I can attest to that as I am building a v8 Ranger which to build and update the whole drive train myself I am at about 300 HP with about $3000 in the drivetrain and parts. Which is more than enough for my Ranger so is more than enough for this car as well.
@@SophiaAphrodite Your version of more than enough is different from my version of more than enough lol
Thanks for the wake up call.
Let's be real, a completed car will cost you in excess of 60K easily. It's still a reasonable amount for what you end up with but a lot of people may not realize the true cost a project like this.
My neighbor has a Factory Five Cobra with a warmed up 5.0 that sounds and runs great. It really got the gears turning in my head for the Type 65.
Factory Five is far beyond a kit car company, they are making it possible to get your hands on a classic body look with modern car performance and safety!
..safety?
Iâve always wanted a Type 65 with a 427 Cleavor and a 6 speed. Such a timeless look.
Cap
@@franciscodiaz6290 lol something he wants and his opinion on the look .. how is he capping? đ€Ą
Honestly this is a much better build than a GTM, even for all out track performance. Not having to buy an expensive, difficult to find transaxle makes building these things so much easier.
Don't tell anyone, but I think the Type 65 is way prettier too đ
@@QuickshiftCars Classic elegance :)
A transaxle in this would be awesome but theyâre too expensive. Need to buy and rebuild a nascar xtrac when they blow them up. Theyâre probably $50k new đ€ź
8hp90 with awd in this would be amazeballs
Man! My neighbor had a blue one with white stripes, and I loved the car! I have now made it a goal to build one of these in the next 4 years!
Do it !! just make sure you give the good Lord the glory for helping you make it happen . đșđČ đâ
What he do with it though..
It is interesting that the 7 th Daytona is not recognised. Shelby made contact with Jon Ohlsen in New Zealand and asked him to build two Daytona coups. This came about because Jon worked with Pete Brock in the old days.Shelby issued two sets of chassis numbers. Sadly Jon passed away before the car was complete. I was privileged to visit with Jon during the build. The car was completed and shipped to the US A. Jon also built the Wilsonâs Daytonaâs back in the day. He suffered burns with the famous Daytona pit fire.
It is indeed the highest praise when the designer of the original says this is the best reproduction/modern interpretation. The kit and the price are awesome.
Love that green example. Iâd love one.
As an Australian, one of these with a Barra in it would RIP. Finally, the long I6 can find a home behind a front axle đ€Łđ€Ł
This is the car my daughter and I want to build, looking forward to it
The blunt rear end is technically a Kamm back.
Kamm tail yep. .
The green Canadian had roll-up windows and what looked like more comprehensive exhaust silencers. Definitely the most streetable car in the video.
I love his car so much there is a ton of custom of that car from the crank windows to the door handles and locks all the way down to the larger foot box so he can fit. The exhaust is just flow master side pipes from what Iâve seen they are probably the best route to go with quieting it down some
I have wanted a Daytona since for ever..I keep getting the build book.from factory 5.its just a dream for me..but mabe someday...there is 1 where I live for sale..guy only wants 90 grand for it.
I remember when my friend Dick Smith also known as Richard Raymond Smith the race car driver of Shelby cobras worked with factory five and signed every dashboard with his name. Dick died a couple of years later in a plane crash but he was a super cool guy
I drove one in Colorado springs. Definitely worth the money
Oh yeah, would definitely build one if I had the funds!! For now will have to settle for dropping the 5 liter in a small pick up! That way I'll have a work/muscle truck.....LOL!
Absolutely gorgeous piece of kit
Man I want one of these so bad.
...Oh snap, this looks spectacularđČđđđđ
2:26 KILLING IT in BRG with the wood interior!
This car looks fun. đ Good stuff.
I would love to build one of these as a daily driver with all the bells and whistles like stereo, leather interior, etc. It might even make driving to work in the morning enjoyable again.
You will never do anything about the car, let alone the bells and whistlesâŠ
Face it, man, you donât even like driving to work in the morning. Total nonsense, you are a dreamer
Right on
I want a daily driver version of this with all of the safety/comfort options one would need.
That would be cool!
You probably want a Miata or S2000 or BRZ/Supra. An old Porsche would probably be too expensive and without power steering.
@@shadow.banned those are complete opposites of this
@@Jake-vc1jd They're all lightweight two-door sports cars. How are they the opposite of this?
Literally a mustang. It's a mustang.
Imma get me a type 65 some day. I think that thing is just gorgeous.
Easier and perhaps less expensive to find a good turnkey example that's well sorted and what you're looking for.
Great car. Definitely on my list.
Somebody needs to drop in a Voodo, I bet it would sound very nice in a full race car setup.
It already sounds great in the GT350R. This is muuuch lighter though. A better choice would be a Coyote. Less expensive and more robust.
in fairness a voodoo create motor is more than what you would pay for the kit
@@michealgray533 Not worth the price. Coyote or LS3 would be the best bangs for the buck.
Thanks for the shout out! (Mine is the green one)
Awesome car. They do perform as good as they look.
Watch mine with just 700 miles on it tear up the autocross course. Fun and fast.
Good lord those 65âs are beautiful and badass
Would I drive one of these exotic kits ?? Till the wheels fall off !!!
The Race Version looks awesome.
Love the Factory5 cars
At the end he asks: âWould we drive one?â Pfff- hold my beer⊠& stand way back.
If you want to go racing...this sounds like a great foundation to start with.
WowâŠi was over here saving up and scouring my area for my dream car to restoreâŠfuck it im just gonna buy this kit and build it :)
Thats so ironic he says Pete Brock because we had a Peter Brock Here in Australia who is an absolute God to us Aussies and he actually died in one of the daytonas with the 6.0l ls in it God đ bless "Brocky 05"
Would love to own one of those!
Super nice!
ABSOLUTELY WANT ONE!!!
I like this idea for a project car and customizing it any way you want...
Definitely budgeting for one of these kits!
Gotta love the Triumph Spitfire hood latches.
And here I was, under my rock for the last few decades, thinking about Caterham when I heard kit car
That's a good one
What an under statement boy đ€
WOW THE AUDIO IS REALLY INTESNSE THANKS FOR THAT
I'm 62 years old and I would drive the race version on the street. Where I live we could probably get it street legal. And use it as a daily driver.
It's legitimately the GR1 concept brought to life
And the gr1 being brought back with the 5.2 and 6 speed manual 2023 but only 100 are gonna be made
The red one dancing in the rain is all I needed to see, now to gather up the money.
Would love to build one of these one day!
You dang right I'd drive one might even have to forgo the bigger harley and get one of these ! No no after the bike it will be the next toy I save up for. Iv seen the cobra but I thought it was the only thing they did gonna have look these guys up and see what else they do
Iâm taking the plunge at the end of the summer - Iâll build it over winter and enjoy it next year.
Just so everyone knows - I ended up with a GT3RS and am now getting divorced so Iâm waiting to do this still
I hope to be able to get my kit next year, been waiting for 10 years to be able to get one!
ONE DAY I MAY OWN ONE
I THINK IT'S đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„
Great vid!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love it, and would drive it at the drop of a hat. What an awesome piece of go getter!! đđ
The "blunt rear end" is called a Kammback or Kamm Tail rear end and it work aerodynamically to reduce drag. That salt flat run was with the 289 engine because none of the original cars had the big block engine. There were plans to build a big block Daytona, but the GT40 took priority.
Awesome. This is my favorite
As a Cobra adict, YES I would drive/build this!
I built mine in 2008/9 for under 30k. With many mods for racing over the years I am still around 35k. I am running a 450hp LS with a T56. Not a great street car though. Earplug loud and very hot in the summer. Also not a easy car to drive fast on the track.
My only question is do they come with instructions like a Lego set bc if so Iâll buy one right now
Great information, thanks for including pricing. Looks look a bargain to me!
Why i love my datsun 240z's. Very similar design
funny you mentioned that, i thought the same thing especially looking at the front headlight design
I will probably never be able to afford a kit car, but Im determined to build my own from scratch one day.
It's absolutely beautiful. I can't believe you can buy this chassis for that price. That's ridiculous.
You canât. Finished like the car shown will run you close to $50k.
one of the coolest cars
As a heads up, @Jonas Jasinskas's type 65 is a gen 2, not a gen 3 like the video suggests.
I was wondering could you just order the body kit, with out the frame?
The driver casually waving at the GTR as he passes had me dead đđđ
The Daytona is a gorgeous car
YES i CAN SEE ONE IN MY FUTURE. I AM LIQUIDATING SOME CARS TO MAKE ROOM FOR IT.
Not a Daily Driver? Would be for me, but I will need A/C for the Texas heat so maybe moderate (somewhat) engine build to keep the belts in Place?
6:41- "Watkind Glen"! Lol...
Anyway, cool car. Wish I had the space to build one!
đ I missed that, thanks.
HEAVENLY !
I would Street cruise and cross country cruise my Kit Car now that I am retired and have the time to do so!
I've wanted a factory five kit for years now...
Why are the exhausts flapping around, do they need a second mounting point
Buying one after Iâm done building my Vette
The type 65 is a phenomenal vintage racing beast... the shelby cobra was just one of those never die designs
First time seeing, nice.
I love my Mercedes, but always have loved the Cobra GT !
What wheels are on the Type 65 R? They look like Rays but I dont know the number
Thought about one. But the actual cost with engine transmission suspension is $50-80k depending on junk yard or new components.
I can get a nice corvette c5-c8 way cheaper , better daily drive, better mpg , safer, cheaper to insure. But definitely not as cool as building you own.
I really want to be able to build and drive that car!
Same here!
What are some lap times at various tracks? VIR. Road Atlanta. PIT. Watkins. Willow Springs.
I definitely would drive one.
Epic !
I would love to have the RS Track Coup
Love at first sight.
Awesome!
Very nice đ.
I would put a Slant 6 in it, but that's just me.
Hell yes Iâd drive one.
Yeah, I'd love one, just hope they never build one in EV...
What a way to screw up a great car run it on sex toy batteries. Seen to many great classic cars destroyed with EV conversions.
that car with a big 'ol wang in the gulf livery might be one of the best looking racecars of all time!
I want to put a v 12 in mine. I made a aircraft aluminum body for it & a just aluminum Chasey, frame for it. Thinking or using plexiglass. The next one I build with be out of Carbonfiber frame & all. Took long time
TIMMY RAY FROM FT WORTH TEXAS SAYS I LOVE IT. đ€ đđ
