Say what you will about Samurai Jack, but the team really knew how to do a lot with a little
true....i love the message behind the story
More than a cartoon, this is truly art, dem artistic!
What can be said besides its awesome?
There are people who badmouth Samurai Jack?
Yeah for real who be shit talking Jack?
If you think about it, the concept of a ninja who can “use the light” (kill you in broad daylight) is pretty scary.
While subtle, it is amazing how one line can show how skilled Jack is.
Hiding in the dark is easy, the hard part is learning to be silent while moving in it. Blending in with daylight however is a whole different level, and frankly way more terrifying.
Yeah.. That is fucking terrifying imagine walking in a flat street in the middle of the day and ya somehow you get stabbed out of nowhere
Its fucking elite
it's not about plain sight, it's about the contrast of extreme darkness and light. In this scenario it's sunset and the dark prevails. But just a little bit of sunlight seems very White.
@@russelllim4891 Nah imagine someone smeared you with ricin and you vomit and sweat profusely till you die from the third day onwards. Doctors can't even trace the ricin.
Have to say Jack training in ninjutsu had to be hella hard. Anyone can hid in the dark, you know how hard it must be to flipping hide in plain daylight?
Agreed
Jack can out- stealth Batman.
Maybe its similar to hiding in plain sight
The metal gear solid Franchise has been doing that for a long time.
@@turtlemike5279 boxes?
The irony I see in this show is that up until Season 5, Jack has a rule against killing actual people. Yet he was trained in what could probably be the hardest form of assassination possible.
He uses this very technique in his fight with the daughters
I don’t think Jack has an actual rule against killing people, he just simply doesn’t because the show is meant for kids. When he does kill the Sisters, the initial effect is more like “oooh fuck that was not a robot”
@@newtybot He seemed pretty scarred from taking a human life and even has a flashback from horror watching his father draw blood. He avoided killing people initially due to premiering on CN but the last season took advantage of being on Adult Swim to open up an interesting conflict for Jack.
@@AlMeZero I mean, I’d be shaken up if I killed a dude my first time too. That doesn’t mean I have a rule against killing people
Even Buddhist Monks practice with weapons....
When you're a stealth player and you encounter an enemy player with the same set of skills that you have.
omg so true
And it becomes an *unforgettable* clash of skill and finess that usually ends up in the two of you being friends.
At least, it was for me. :D
Finally, a worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary!!

This is probably one of the greatest episodes from the original series.
Agreed.

Although this fight is fucking awesome I must say the Scotsman episodes were always my favorite.
I liked this episode, the Scotsman, and that haunted house episode.

Hey! Dont let people deceive you on what they're doing. It's all part of their act.
Ninja used sex as a weapon sometimes so it makes sense. Kind of.
have to mention, jack was on a time limit during this fight, if it had turned night there is a chance he would've lost
It does happen in the climax where he is in plain sight while the shinobi was completely hidden. It was nerve wrecking as hell
I figured he would have used the last of the light to escape and reset the situation
It had me on the edge of my fucking seat as the sun went down...
*excellent* setpiece!
He most likely would have lost. His skill isn't in the Darkness. It's in the light.
i think that everyone and their mother came to this conclusion
As cool as this fight, storyboard, and animation are, the entire concept of a practitioner of ninjitsu being invisible in broad daylight is extremely terrifying. Anyone can hide in the shadows, but invisible in the light? Truly scary
I always thought he wasn't completely invisible.
But the ninja was so much used to dark, that he could not see in the light, as regular people do
@@GreedyDrunk92 like a shadow vision?
@@lordofshades9852
Yeah
Given that ninja were trained to disguise themselves as people that their targets would hardly acknowledge is more or less the same thing as being invisible. For an assassin, not being noticed is basically the same thing as being invisible.
@@MasterArchfiend Maybe that's what inspired this idea. Except the show's writers took that aspect of ninjas to the stereotypical extreme by giving Jack a white ninja outfit that blended into the light. "Real ninjas disguised themselves to hide in broad daylight. What if Jack did the same thing, but as a contemporary ninja?"
This fight is really confusing to watch when I was a kid, but now I understand it better, the fight is epic as hell.

It’s an understated element of the show in general, especially with lots of silence to go around.
This art style came back in the new season during his fight with the daughter's of Aku cult assassins. Loved the sense of dread the music gave as the sun began setting! (Still upset that Princess Mira never came back during the ending battle...)
Princess Mira tried to get Jack's bounty, probably couldn't bring herself to face him. Still though I was waiting for her to come back and make amends but she never did :(

Yeah, the first season aired on Adult Swim across 2019 and 2020. So far, out of all the animated films/shows I have watched in the last few years, it is easily one of my favorites.
This is not a cartoon, this is an ARTISTIC MASTERPIECE
Alternatively, it is BOTH a cartoon & an artistic masterpiece, because shows can be both and calling something a "cartoon" is not necessarily a bad thing. :D
It's both bud. It's both.
Being a cartoon does not prevent the work from being an artistic masterpiece 🤓
still one of the most stylish fights in the show

Still stands as one of the best fights of all time. A brilliant use of a concept where you have both sides using their element conceal and strike while the sun setting puts an urgency on Jack to end the fight before it’s too late.
When Jack starts untying his robe, you all know someone is about to get their ass beat.

One of many, many episodes from classic Jack that show that modern cartoons just don't compete with the late 90s/early 00s boom.
That's because cartoons back then took risks... cartoons now don't.
Let's take this issue further. What risks are there to take nowadays?
Mierda-kun Does it?
Mierda-kun Kind of. Social risks were taken for sure, but i don't see they doing it with the action or the major plot about Homeworld.
YOU'VE JUST REMEMBERED ME THAT O.K K.O IS FINALLY A THING I'M HAPPY NOW
This is why Genndy Tartakovsky is one of my favorite people. It's just such a simple thing, using black and white, and the sound reduced simply to the clash of swords, while an unsettling music plays and sets the atmosphere. It's so minimalist it's almost abstract in a way, but at the same time creates this tense atmosphere that just draws you in.
Goddamn, I need Samurai Jack in my DVD collection.

That shinobi wasn't trained. He was programmed.
Samurai Jack honestly would have been a wee bit better if it was aimed more at teens/early adult's, the shinobi fight while good would have been better if it was an actual person and wasn't limited my robotic programing.
One could ask, "what's the difference?"
Considering it's in the future, it's probably programmed to be just as good as a person anyways
@@delta2372 There was no ''limit''. The shinobi would have been EXACTLY the same if it was human.

This is so good. Hiding in the dark is easy while hiding in light is legendary, but the longer the fight goes the the harder for Jack to hide as daylight is fading giving the shinobi the greater advantage.
This has got to be one of my absolute favorite fights in the series. They're all well done but this took an abstract level of understanding to choreograph.

Could be considered a children's show for the first 4 seasons, but it was a wonderful show that did not talk down to children and was able to introduce very complex concepts well.

"To give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace." Luke 1:79
Such a masterpiece fight. Jack REVERSED the traditional way a ninja fights. Using the light to kill in sunlight is frighteningly deadly.
This show has such a striking visual style that the sound design is so easy to overlook. The music, ambiance and sound effects are perfect. Remember folks: in the original japan, a samurai had to learn how to wield the sword, the bushido, the required etiquettes, and horse riding in battle.
A ninja had to learn hypnosis, animal taming, the usage of every weapon, creativity, battle strategy, climbing up anywhere, hiding on land, in water, how to be silent, chemistry, potion making, explosives, AND EVERYTHING WHAT A SAMURAI HAS TO KNOW. And so much more.
So, yeah. Jack knowing how to defeat a ninja in his own way is damn terrifying just because of the training what he had to go through.

Wait, he can hide in broad daylight?
Why couldn't he do that all the time?!
He would've just had to walk up to a time portal, jump, and kill Aku without him even knowing he's there!
He probably closed his eyes so he couldn’t see his skin isn’t white
And also he knew he had to end the fight quick because of the sun
Contrary to popular belief, I think Jack is doing more than just reflecting sunlight off of him to hide from the shinobi.
Our eyes adapt in response to the amount of light we perceive to help us see; they contract when there's a lot of light around us and dilate when there's little. This trait has its drawbacks though. If we're in a lit environment, dark creatures and objects cast in the dark will be very hard to see. By contrast, bright objects and creatures are harder to see if they're cast in light and we're in the dark.
In other words, the relative contrast between Jack's bright clothing and the shinobi's dark clothing plus the way our eyes work is what makes this kind of battle possible.
This episode along with 'the three blind archers' and 'the monks and the ancient masters son' is (imo) the best pieces of work from the mind of Tartakovsky

I love this scene so much because it's not a Samurai Vs Ninja fight, FunFact a samurai can also be a Ninja if they had to. This shows that being a Ninja isn't a profession, it's a skill that anyone can learn and hence be a Ninja. Jack fights him using the same style cuz if he fought him like a samurai meaning out in the open, he would be in serious trouble.
