As an eastern European migrant myself, this intro puts a smile on my face. The dialogue when niko realises the BS Roman has been feeding him is the funniest thing ever.

Most of us here in the Balkans have that 1 friend abroad who is telling us how they live a Hollywood lifestyle...and then they come home and those same people who are making 50k a month are calling you to pick them up from airport. And then you realize all those stories are just BS.
Roman is so funny - one of the best side characters a protagonist could have. Even if he actually fed him with lots of bs, Roman is still more worth than all the belongings he claimed to have. Nothing is more shattering than an unloyal family member. At least it's the impression in the start of the game

0:36 and 2:04 I'll admit GTA San Andreas' introduction was legendary even if it didn't come included in the pc version.
But there's just something about This GTA IV intro that makes it unique, the way the boat reaches the coastline while the theme drops, it just gives me a thrill.
In my opinion GTA IV's intro is the most legendary out of all gta games.
gta iv is the pinnacle of what gta should be. in terms of writing, characters, physics, mechanics. allof that. gta 5 is arcade.
To be honest, I think GTA IV and V have the best opening intro.
Not to forget Roman coming to collect Niko whilst Schweine (arguably the best radio song from GTA 4) is playing.

Most realistic but not the best. San Andreas still owns the crown, and GTA IV got rid of a lot of great stuff from San Andreas. Also in terms of humor SA takes the cake too - just listen to radio commercials or the dialogues between Police Helicopter pilots

▪︎The first song heard in the game is "Soviet Connection" by Michael Hunter, GTA IV's theme. The second song heard is "Schweine" by Glukoza, inside Roman's cab. It is featured on the in-game radio station Vladivostok FM. The song in Roman's car will change if the player skips the cutscene. But it will always be on Vladivostok FM. After the April 26, 2018 patch for the game that removed and replaced the majority of Vladivostok FM due to the music licenses expiring (PC and Xbox One only), the set song playing in Roman's cab will now be "The Invasion" by Seryoga.
▪︎Roman's taxi in this mission has lower acceleration than usual, presumably because this is the first car driven by new players that are not yet familiar with the driving style (especially those familiar with the controls used in the 3D Universe games, as opposed to the different controls used in GTA IV).
▪︎The opening of the Rockstar game Red Dead Redemption mirrors this mission, as the protagonists (Niko Bellic and John Marston) arrive by boat and a car is lifted off the boat by a crane.

Every single GTA game is good, and they just keep getting better. The dialogue, story, mechanics, and the sheer amount of content and customization available is amazing. I am so pumped for the next one. The only improvement I can offer is to provide better PC compatibility.

2:04 where I literally shed a tear the first time I experienced the game in 2008, it was such a big transition from SA to IV in terms of game development. Hopefully VI gives me a similar experience.
I don't know if it is possible to have so much graphical difference at this point, or at least so that it is for the general public to not be limited to a PC master race.

GTA 4 in terms of texture quality doesn’t really look like a generation leap over SA it’s the physics and world detail that make it feel way more advanced

After finishing the main story and watching this intro again, I realized that throughout the game Niko's english improves significantly. it's an awesome detail that shows how much realism rockstar put in this game.
The intros just fantastic with the staff's names appearing on angles. Also seeing what it's like for Niko to arrive in America and starting on the bottom to rise to the top. It's really a good feel to it.
I was today years old (having finished the game many times over the years) when i noticed the two naval shipyard workers moving the crate and the developer name moves with the same crate

Well honestly IMO its all about the memories you've had well at least in my point of view GTA SA is fun yeah lot more things to do but me.. when I first got the game early 2009 I remember the first thing I said when I first played especially when I saw Algonquin "It's Beautiful.." may sound cliche but that time I've never seen anything as beautiful as GTA 4... years passed and I went back to IV and realized that this game was released in 2008 and I'm here still enjoying it in 2012.. So for me its all about the nostalgic moments you get when you play all those memorable moments.. Happier Times.. I have replayed the story and handful of times and I must say I never had that same feeling I got when I first played but every single time I play this certain mission I remember this I remember that so IMO its all about memories you had with the game the newer and younger kids well probably feel the same thing about V..

Both GTA 4 and GTA 5 have the best stories in the GTA series. I love both equally, both have their own unique concepts and both have a whole lot different kind of stories to tell. Rockstar is amazing, man! I love both games from the bottom of my heart.

I'm not nostalgic for GTA IV, because I completed it recently. But there is no good story in GTA V, largely because out of the three protagonists, only Michael turned out to be good and interesting. And Trevor is the worst protagonist in the entire series, and I hated playing his missions

Every time I see this Intro and hear the music I understand how much this game is underestimated by many GTA fans.
This is one of my favorite games that was unfairly thrown in the mud at the time.
And Yes there is: the best physics, the best story, the best protagonists, (Niko, Johnny, Luis) best shooting and you know I'd rather play GTA 4 again than GTA 5.
No matter how cool the chips were in the 5th part, I do not intend to buy it on PS5 anymore and spend money to make Rockstar once again milked online.
I'm sorry I'm tired because I love singleplayer more, I hope I'm not the only one and I may have someone support me in the comments.

This game was huge in terms of the scope of GTA. Completely changed the game in terms of atmosphere and interactivity. What a beauty. Something interesting I noticed is that Niko's English actually improves as the game goes on. Nice little touch.

Story is 10/10 for me. Thats a long and enjoyable story!
Every key narrative theme is conveyed in this opening cutscene:
- The Captain and First Mate are celebrating while the shipmates work below.
- Cars (most likely stolen) are being unloaded, alluding to exploitation of the impoverished to maintain our quality of life.
- The pursuit of that quality of life by immigrants who want to live the American Dream.
- The diamonds are first shown.
- Niko’s regret and how that regret both colors his past and his future.
