    - Wife and kid left him
    - Father is about to die
    - Almost half of bones in his body are broken
    - A psycho is after him to Butcher his family
Without being sympathetic vanga is showing how every action has consequences.

many critics have just forgotten to connect the content of the movie to the title and the behavior of an animal. do you think an animal understands these concepts like violence or even more important concepts like gender sensitivity [to some extent]. they just want to protect their loved ones at any cost. they don't care who is in front of them.

I agree with you. Animal was Vanga's reply to all the critics, and I felt that very clearly while watching the movie. I felt like Vanga was not making a movie for the audience but for the people who hated him for Kabir Singh. Such provocative replies are what kids do as a tantrum. It's really immature of him if this movie is a revenge over Kabir singh and all. People call out on violence in Hollywood movies but those movies doesn't literally "teach" u or give a lecture on alpha male, glorifying their own movie or satisfy their ego. Tht thing is kept very subtle, as explained in this video. Imagine two types of people watching this movie, one is a psychopath and other one is a normal person. Both will watch this film and in the back of their head, thoughts would be different. For psychopath it would just justify the violence. And animal is really really provocative movie.

Just saw the film, I don't trust box office records but it was a wonderful film. The second half was not stretched as they said, it was fairly paced and very interesting.
They only thing I missed is if they had given more time to tell how Ranbir Kapoor (The Animal) got such strong Alpha male traits and the anger.
His childhood was not torturous nor did he had a trauma of any sort.
    Overall a very entertaining film.

Yeah... i was also interested in seeing how Ranbir became such Animal other than few childhood incidents (which were shown in movie).. but ig indian audience is not that mature to watch drama from an action packed movie so that's why vanga didn't did it there.... but i feel the success of Animal would really force him to write more deeper and darker story around that in its sequel!

Small correction: Animal doesn't have unconventional film making. Everything from camera, capturing violence and sex are pretty conventional for an adults only film. It has an unconventional story and that's what you mean here. But that too isn't that unconventional when stuff like shootout at wadala, sacred games, aashram exist.
2:15 lack of fear of law and authority isn't unconventional in Indian Cinema. It always existed. Even KGF is the recent example. In some movies they're justified by showing corrupt cops.

This is exactly what I mean. Indian cinema has followed this blueprint for centuries and deeply understanding what's already understood brings nothing new. What Manoj Bhajpai is saying also applies to movies like Darling, Barbie... saying those shouldn't exist is the opposite of supporting creativity. Unconventional should apply to movies that Indian audiences AREN'T used to & gangster films are never that.

    • @noOnieya
      @noOnieya Před 8 měsíci

@@rishshortfilms The problem is this 5ocial guy watched RGV's interview(Bollywood Hungama, I believe)where he says the same thing-CHANGING THE TEMPLATE(or read it somewhere, which would be bad luck for him since RGV explains why he says that later on in the interview). RGV explains, and he may be incorrect here, that Vanga has changed the template(or thrown it out) because the scenes he's included don't seem to contribute to the plot; they are just there as an expression of his imagination. In doing so he becomes brave enough to not care about what he is showing or whether that is contributing to the plot or not. He becomes an "Expressionist", a first in Indian Cinema, according to RGV. Well, even though most won't care about THAT, at least it would've better explained the template part in THIS video. As far as I am concerned, that's still up for debate, and as you rightly pointed out, this may have been happening in Indian Cinema from time immemorial, you know, the B-grade action genre. No Cinephile ever went that deep.

    • @lelouch7315
      @lelouch7315 Před 8 měsíci +43

well said, you just literally putted words from my mouth. now that you mentioned i realised that movie's satire is that Ranvijay thinks that he and his father is above everyone else which is so right because we don't see a single cop in the movie. (this scenario is much more like American psycho where no one suspect patrick even when its so obvious), i don't think Animal is the level of satire American psycho had but still they tried very well to incorporate the idea.
and about irony:- the ironic part of the movie is that ranvijay is so hypocrite that in first half of the film he says thst his brother shouldn't cheat on their wifes and says "don't fuck around idiots" but irony is that he does exactly the same after the interval(in second half), i just fucking hated what he did to getanjali by cheating on her with zoya.
however that cheating is a way to show another aspect of animal, since ranvijay is supposed to represent an animal he does everything a wild creature does (ex:- going out naked in his house, he doesn't care if other people besides his wife, father and mother sees his privates) (growing out very long hair and not trimming, only abrar and ranvijay have similar beard growth and long hairs to represent the nature of how animals behave like they don't shave usually) ( another thing about hairs is that ranvijay mentions and suggest that his servant shouldn't shave his private; indicating that animals don't shave) (and by cheating on geetanjali he again proved that he's the ANIMAL of the movie, because animals don't have belonging or they don't care about relationships at all. like sleep anywhere, sleep with anyone and something along in that aspect)
this genius way of vanga to show ranvijay is animal in every part of the movie is very subtle but really deep when you focus on such subjects
Uhm... looks like i have written too much i may end this now.

6:27 Couldn't agree more . This is true especially for the second half . First half was very connected to story and character situations. It was the second half where story took a back seat and SRV's personal understanding of world took over . All that alpha male and misogyny looked forced into the narrative in the second half like that bra strap scene and pad line and diverted from the revenge plot . Alphas are driven by their goals ,(revenge in this case), which was completely missing in the second half . This was not the case with Kabir Singh , where his traits were developed organically because of situations around Kabir . They could have simply shown Ranbir doing unimaginable stuff one after other to find the real villain who was behind Anil Kapoor's assassination attempt making his family believe that he is delusional which would irritate him and his obsession for his father's approval would force him to behave toxically and become darker . But SRV forced some unnecessary side plots into the screenplay to show Ranbir's character becoming darker in the second half. Finding bobby , which should have been the most difficult task , looked the easiest .
The 2nd half was simply written to reply to the critics of kabir singh , and not for the sake of a good story .

I knew after watching that Animal is for hard stomach audience who have watched violent cinema especially Korean and hollywood. But I think the problem starts to arise when we start looking for a social goodness and rightness in the main characters of our mainstream films. Yes Ranvijay is flawed and problematic character but you don't have to take any inspiration and be influenced from him in any way if you are a matured and sensible person, people go for pure entertainment to the movies and what appeals to them in the film (action, comedy, VFX, music etc.). Throughout film you could see that the plot is basically of a person who has been deprived of his father's love and affection since childhood and made him the person he is now in some ways and could go to any extent to protect his father. Kudos to Ranbir for always experimenting in his roles. A great versatile and dynamic actor.

People who look at the film superficially dont like it. But think deeply and it has many layers. Vanga has snuck in many implicit ideas which are upto the audience to decode. One stands out to me and I dont know why so many people missed the 'swastik' ode to Hitler. The scene with the raised hand signal, standing in front of the swastik symbol in the factory admist numerous workers revealed immediately, in retrospect ofcourse, that this man was going to destroy everything including himself. Go watch Hitler's speeches to his army. Just like Hitler did, he possessed a feeling of righteousness and confidence in his actions but they ended up really badly for everyone. Hitler did not think he was evil, he thought he was purifying society by ridding it of the Jews. Same with this character who thought his was the best course of action to protect his father. Its actually a smart film.

People are just too caught up in the controversies to understand this layer of nuance.
Never once did Sandeep make it feel like Ranvijay's character should be completely sympathised with. Yeah he had some moments where we could feel sympathy for him but they were just few and far between. Clearly, the movie is not very subtly titled, Animal. We are literally told that we are going to see an Animal. What did people expect! He may be righteous to himself but he clearly wasn't to anyone else. Her sister didn't like his "favour", Geetanjali didn't like his "Loyalty", his father didn't like his "Devotion", Zoya didn't like his "Manliness". This movie is about a troubled character who ultimately loses everything that he ever cared about the most.

Think about it, a person, who is so violent and aggressive to the point where his own dad calls him a criminal, won't score high on morality and consience. The way he treats people is exactly how you would expect someone like him to do. When I watched the movie from that lens, I didn't even feel that Ranvijay's behaviour was out of place. Based on the character development, it's exactly what I would expect from him.
Like Kabir Singh, I also read a lot of criticism regarding how he didn't face any reprocussions for his actions. This argument is baseless. He spends his entire life trying to get validation from his dad and never gets it and at the end even his wife leaves him.
I draw a lot of parallels between this character development to Robert Pattinson's Batman. Previously Bruce Wayne used to be showcased as this cool billionare guy who does vigilante work. But do you really expect a person who lives a double life, fights crime everyday and doesn't get much sleep to act like a normal person. This part, Matt Reeves's Batman showcased perfectly.
Is it a perfect film without any flaws ? Absolutely not and a lot of things could have been improved and avoided which was mentioned in this video. But what it does is it delivers a blockbuster 3+ hours of entertainment for people looking for Indian action movies. It is not for everyone and never meant to be a casual family entertainer. Ranbir and Vanga even frankly mentioned this during their promotions.
Sometimes we need to treat movies as what they are: entertainment. They are meant for a couple hours of entertainment and that's that.

@@siddhanthravichandran3245 there is a character arc, the only thing is that it's a declining one like Walter white in Breaking bad. Obviously not saying it's as good as that but still it's just a similar type of arc. He sees himself as an alpha, the protector of his people, the man of the house after his father. He wants everything according to his wishes and cares for his loved ones very obsessively, so much so that he forgets what is wrong and what is right whenever someone threatens his loved ones. I don't justify his toxic behaviour at all but he actually cares for his loved ones, and is not a bad person by heart, but is mentally f'd up no doubt.
In the 2nd half it's a story about he only gets worse from there and becomes an animal literally after the assassination attempt on his father, and is totally unhinged. He will go to any lengths to kill his father's enemies, even if he has to betray his own principles( not cheating, staying loyal)
His way of doing things wasn't right, but it did save his father, otherwise he would have got killed surely.

I think it's a great movie. See, it's a movie and that's how it should be seen. Not something inspirational, not something influential, just pure Cinema.
The storyline, tho critical and somewhat alarming, is fairly decent as it's focused too much on Action rather than narration...which I am fine with as it excells in the Action part. Apart from that, I don't think it's something to be taken seriously, and should just wait for Animal Park.
Also, if you or someone you know gets inspired/influenced from a movie of such kind, trust me, the problem isn't the movie...🤷
Edit: I still think SRV should have worked more upon the storyline rather than just action (and provocation 🤭), which would have certainly blown people's minds...but, yet again, not a deal breaker imo...😅

You have to appreciate RGV's comment that Vanga uses a new style of direction in his movies. Instead of adding to the plot, the movie focuses on evolution of the character. There are a lot of unnecessary scenes. Ukw, it becomes even more interesting if you start to think that Ranvijay is the plot and we're looking at him unfolding. (Which makes a lot more sense if you think about the first scene of the movie and old ranvijay)

Violence is not physical in this movie. It's psychological. The way Ranvijay thinks, his mindset, love towards father and all of his shades are very vibrant and justifies the title "ANIMAL". We have to accept Vanga sir is a great director with great storytelling and film making perspective. He has his style of writing his characters. Characters like Kabir singh and Ranvijay are quiet similar I would say. Both of them are violent. Hence, he used to write almost similar characters which is not bad as these characters have shades and it's interesting to watch them and their story , alot more exaggerated way though😅 But it's fine I loved it ❤❤❤

When ranvijay gets shot and goes into a coma. Uska demeanor aur attitude bahut hi ek unbearable diva level pe aajatha since he is on heavy medication after such gruesome injuries, apni biwi se argument jitne ke liye ussi nalli berozgaar bolna, pad change karwali kya jaane dard kya hota hai bolke uska medication se dimaag unstable ho rkha hota hai, aise taane toh ek saas bhi naa apni bahu pe maare. Iss universe mein aadmi logo ka ek mentality hai ki tum kitchen sambhalo, ham khoon karabha karne jaa rhe hai. Joh kaafi one tone lagtha for a deranged son / husband / father of two kids. Par aise defend karna bhi encouraging lagtha kyunki animal naam se hi symbolism set ho jatha, ranvijay bole ki tumhe jhaat barar bhi healthcare ka pata nhi, toh tum incompetent ho, mujhe abhi sex chahiye, tum chahe kitchen mein ho ya beech road mein, apne kapde utharo, main jaa rha hoon abrar ko maarne, bhale hi mera body aadhe se bhi zyada sadd chuka ho. Like eat, sex, hunt eat sex hunt this is what an animal does in a wildlife, uska koi time schedule nhi hai, jaha mila waha hagg diya, jaha mila wahi chodd diya, jaha mila wahi gala kaat diya ranvijay felt he is living in the jungle no holds barred, isliye main iss picture ko defend kar rha hoon, because yeh character kisi bhi angle se role model bann nhi saktha aur na hi yeh kabhi hope symbolize karega, he was doomed from the title card slapped on his face

It's ok to have a film like Animal , hollywood have this type of violent film for many years, and I agree with your statements, hollywood ke violent k samne yeh kuch bhi nhi ha, viewers ko sab kuch ka taste Lena chaiye..but the problem is - violent k piche Jo kahani hai wo kaafi weak hai sirf bap ka dhyan pane kliye khun pe khun kar raha hai yeh nonsense laga mujhe, just the opposite of kgf ,we got connected to Yash bcZ usko majboori pe violence karna pada logoke valai keliye...ek emotional backstory tha ,Jo idhar bhud lacking hai...

As goes for the reviews. The complex role is well portrayed to show the dark side of an individual. So dark and animal like who ends up losing every relationship. Job well done by the leading actor Ranbir Kapoor with great acting and some brilliant performances from the other actors as well . Bobby Delos menacing cameo and Rashmika shines in her role, stands tall with her performance. As you can see in the entire movie, no one is justifying his actions . Not his father , sister nor his wife or people around him. So relax it’s just a movie certified for Adults, with amazing music album and most importantly to be treated as art and entertainment . People defending animal and calling it cult classic should've known that Indian audience is quite different from foreign audience , for them cinema is not just cinema, it's more like real life , protagonist is not just an actor but they are worshiped as GOD. Yes, it's true that some of you found this movie as a cinematic beauty, But those who went to see this for entertainment , those Who find cinema Real and those who are influenced by it ,such ideologies will arise in their behavior/mindset & this Cannot be ignored . Try to understand that for any movie to be a cult classic , it's not necessary that it has to be violent and misogynist , that too when the society in India is already struggling with same problems , in such a position instead of presenting that ideology in a heroic manner , the act can be presented as wrong ways . We had enough kabir singh even before kabir singh was released , and we have enough animals in our society too. Bollywood has normalised so many problamtic things since starting related to both men and women , we need progress not regress.

Tbh I didn't like the movie just becuase the story meant blant.. they could've put focus on writing to create depth in characters but the movie decided to focus on action/gore scenes to promote itself. Another thing which makes me feel weird was when the movie tries a lot to justify what the anti hero is doing. My favorite part was the ending when ranbir kapoor confronts himself to his dad which made me feel that yes, the motive of the MC was just to protect his Father. However it feels during the movie that the MC is trying to just do something for the sake of it, so I wish they added more of the father-son element.
Also I wish the movie shouldve ended which the scene of ranbir kapoor hugging his son, showing that he can now be the Father he always wanted, moving on.
But nope, they decided to add tje extra "animal park" thing to create a universe and milk more money.
Everyone always have different opinions so if you disagree you can tell I would love to listen it lol
