Exactly. I don't understand why movies have to be perceived through such a narrow or myopic lens, insisting that if a negative character is portrayed, they MUST be punished by the end. Movies cannot be viewed through the prism of activism; there are no rules in moviemaking or art. You can criticize art, but you can't censor it.

Why we cannot keep a film just to theatre or in streaming platforms, why to implement it in our lives not every filmaker makes a film for motivation. Ranbir is not a hero in this film this is just a fictional story of a man who just knows violence and if anyone analyse it it's just "stupidity". But it entertain the audience the action set pices are nice and no one should take moral lessons from film. There is a reason its A-Rated because the world assumes Adults can distinguish between REAL AND REEL life. After watching all the reviews(i did not watch this video as i watched one yesterday) all the thing i am getting is people are making money through the popularity of ANIMAL and VANGA JUST TREAT IT LIKE ANOTHER FILM GUYSS PLSSS

  • @souvikpradhan1053
    @souvikpradhan1053 Před 9 měsíci +10

But that is the character. Vanga wanted Ranbir's character to be like that, a person who should be hated for his actions. It is meant to make you feel that way, isn't? It is problematic and that is specifically why the director has choose to create the scene. That is why it is named Animal otherwise it should have been named victim. The story is a story you can derive what you want to but specially the morality. There are so many problematic scenes is Kubrick's clockwork Orange but as far as I know cinephiles deem it as an masterpiece. Or any crime thriller. The point is these characters may exist in reality but they need to be presented in the way they are with their problematic moral stances and their blind love for his loved ones. The movie should be treated as a craft not your moral science class. The director was so clinical with his execution, Ranbir's best performance. A demonic presence on the screen both filled with love and rage. No one is congratulating or celebrating that. The father son bond which is common in Indian household. They did a phenomenal job. When the director makes you triggered, I personally think he was able to get inside your skin and he perfectly did what he was meant to do.

THE VERY THOUGHT THAT THE MAIN LEAD SHOULD HAVE A SQUEAKY CLEAN "HERO" IMAGE IS OLD SCHOOL. NOWHERE IN THE MOVIE IS IT SHOWN THAT THE MAN IS PERFECT. THE CHARACTER IS JUST A HUMAN, WITH SHADES OF GREY, OBSESSED WITH HIS DAD THAT HE WOULD GO ANY EXTENT TO PROTECT HIM. NOW ABOUT THE MISOGYNY AND VIOLENCE MENTIONED. I AM SURE THE VERY SAME CRITICS WHO LOOK UPTO MOVIES LIKE THE GODFATHER, SCARFACE, GOODFELLAS, AMERICAN PSYCHO, KILL BILL, TAXI DRIVER, PULP FICTION AND THE LIKE FOR THEIR ART (WHICH BY THE WAY, HAS ELEMENTS OF EXTREME MISOGYNY/VIOLENCE) LOOK DOWN ON MOVIES LIKE ANIMAL OR KABIR SINGH. STATING THAT THE CHARACTER PLAYED BY BOBBY DEOL RAPES AND ABUSES WOMEN IS AS GOOD AS SAYING, "OH MY! THE JOKER HAS MASSACRED SO MANY PEOPLE! HOW DARE HE!" ANOTHER ONE OF THESE DOUBLE STANDARDS WAS SEEN WHEN PEOPLE SAY THE MAIN LEAD DISRESPECTS A WOMAN BY PULLING THE BRA STRAP AND ASKING ANOTHER TO LICK HIS SHOE. IT'S AS SILLY AS ME SAYING, "OH MY! I AM SO OFFENDED THAT THE CHARACTER WISHED HER DAD-IN-LAW DIDN'T SURVIVE THE GUN SHOT. I AM SO AGGRIEVED THAT THE WOMAN WHO MADE LOVE WITH THE PROTAGONIST TURNED OUT TO BE A MOLE!" LIKE ANY MOVIE, THESE ARE PLOTS WITH LAYERED CHARACTERS. A MOVIE, UNLIKE A SPEECH, NEED NOT DELIVER A UNIVERSAL MESSAGE. THAT'S WHY MOVIES HAVE RATINGS, WHICH IS STILL NEW IN INDIAN CINEMA.

Let me tell you one thing, there is a difference between what is portrayed and how the audience takes it. Sometimes for the sake of entertainment and enjoyment, we watch it as it is. We only learn something from it when some topics are highly explored, such as movies like Toilet Ek Prem Katha, padman, 3 Idiots, Swades, etc. these movies delve deep into the messaging and it's quite effective. But certain movies also contain some level of regressiveness that we as an audience have quite moved on from that. We know these things existed for a long time in our country, and Bollywood has shed some light on this matter in its own Bollywood way, but these topics somehow become the event of the day, whether you think it or not, it becomes a hit. Those regressive mindset people may support this, and we must bring them to the right path. The problem whether ether how much are you taking all of the things in the movie, because after waching Animal, i never felt for the character. ,because his moral values, his way of life, his way of protection knows no bounds. He's a man who is no good, no bad, nor in the between. He's something quite different, which even he doesn't know. I am just saying this because you say the cinema is just for learning. Not all cinema is learning, and making comments like these doesn't change the fact that the movie is bad. It's what you see, what you enjoy, and what y'all take from it. Don't be the character, be the character, don't judge the situation, judge the situation, it's all a choice. It all boils down to your own opinion of the film, because at the end, all the things that you talk about, whether it's misogyny, sexism, and brutality, psychology, those are the deep topics that you talk about. Y'all don't talk about how amazing the BGM was, how amazing the story was, how the acting was, how their performances were, how the action was. It all boils down to what this movies teaches us about society. We as an audience know our limits, we are progressive, and we've left behind our imaging for this movie.

    Hi Prateek,
Have seen a few reviews based on my curiosity towards the movie Animal. I usually prefer Sucharita Tyagi’s reviews but your episode too has a different take on the opinion of Animal.
Admits the stark positivity or negativity of the film I would like to put across a point which most tend to miss.
    What is a Film?
What is Cinema or a Cinematic universe?
What is the difference between cinema & a documentary ?
Every movie has a positive and a negative reactive meter from the world viewers.
I believe that we live in a real world. When one thinks of going to a cinema, it’s for entertainment.
    Cinema is story telling.
Cinema is embracing the visual craft,
Cinema is about the craft of each and every individual associated with the movie.
    Cinema is an exhilarating experience.
Cinema is a crafts makers ode to his fans and audiences, it’s an art on visual display; the Depiction of art is an intellectual, emotional or just a mere visual perspective of each respective viewer.
It could be a bad film, it could be a good film, the morality could be questioned or accepted; but why not dwell on the craft.
Audiences going in know consciously that they are going in for a visual experience which has no connect with real life.
Then there are audiences who aren’t mature enough; who intentionally blur the cinematic and real world.
Each to his own/ her own.
There are countless films in the world which depict even higher intense levels of rage, anger, emotion, violence, masculinity, misogyny, etc etc.
then there are films which depict love, warmth, bonding, sensuality, etc
    We know it’s a craft
Why not break down the craft?
Rather than breaking down the reactions of the people seeing the craft?
    The performances of
    Ranbir, Anil sir, Bobby, Rashmika,
The emotions they displayed was it intense, was it versatile? What was the transformation the characters went through and the work they put into their craft?
How right was the background score, the music? Was it impactful to the story telling?
How was the make up? Through the movie?
What was the idea behind the makers mind to have those men with helmets in the action sequences? Why was it effective as per the makers?
The set design? Was it apt? What were the shortcomings there ?
The sound and dubbing and dialogue delivery ? Could that have been better?
The cinematography, the lighting, the action choreography? How difficult was it to shoot the action sequences?
The technicalities of editing such a film?
A review of a film is not your opinion of the film. An opinion is for a fan or critic.
A review is an expression and assessment of the craftsmanship who’s layed out the craft for you.
When you see a painting, everyone has their opinion which is fair and square.
    It’s good,
    It’s bad,
    It’s too bold,
    It’s too colourful,
    It’s too dark,
    Etc etc …
    But
    What is the canvas?
What kind of paints were used?
What is the art of brushstrokes used by the artist?
The depth of the tones created?
Why did he use a specific shade or a particular thick canvas?
What was the thought in the mind of the creator while making the art?
I believe the right questions make the right review and not the right or wrong Opinions.

It's just a movie dam't and it''s okay if I or anybody else likes it! Don't like it, don't have to ask anybody to watch it, but please stop imposing your standards, ideals and political correctness on people and expecting them to conform. Both are loud, narcissist, playing the victim , incapable of hearing critisim. Just shut up and listen to them.
Also the love for self-insert main character. The one thing I absolutely hate in a story bcs it becomes what the writer believes and not a contrasting tale of different characters.
The day I saw his Anupam interview after KS. I knew exactly he isn't making a movie. He is creating a fan fiction where he is the self-insert lead, who does all problematic things without any care. I mean, it's his world ,so ofcourse he can do anything. Who gonna oppose him in his story?
That is why he has so much trouble in accepting critisim. Bcs he sees it's an attack on him and not a character he created. His character never admits he is wrong bcs Vanga can never be wrong.
I am sure in upcoming interviews we will find out he has same relationship with his father like in Animal.
The man is trying to cop by making movies and seeking gratification for his toxic mentality. He needs therapy, seriously.
Anurag Kashyap has far better understanding of writing and world building than Vanga does. Kashyap writes stories with layers , nuances and explores different characters and perspectives. Whereas, Vanga does is - him in romantic story. Him in revange drama. It always about him.
Do you think Vanga will ever make Ugly like movie?

      (1) Arjun hits Preethi. Preethi also hits Arjun in climax. Yet, I agree boy hitting girl is avoidable due to girl's lesser PHYSICAL strength
      (2) Body exists not to hit. All organs do their duties so to produce energy for mind to function. Thus body is a servant of the mind, primarily. So, if one sees logically, hitting a body is UNINTELLIGENCE
      (3) Ranvijay (in Animal) going into class room while shooting his machine gun can not INFLUENCE coz none have access to a mc gun. But guys may get inflluenced with hero's violent mind, and become violent themselves. Arjun's vulgar language, physical violence in Arjun Reddy can influence guys a lot as they directly RELATE their lives with hero's lives
      (4) Yet, movies are 1 way a guy gets influenced. The guy has been under continuous influence from society ever since he became conscious. A guy picks negatives quite quickly from internet (on mobile or tablet or laptop) or news tv channels os talks with friends and so on. So movies is just 1 among many.
      (5) Definition of democracy -> No restriction to a human mind's thought, but restriction exists to a human's actions. If actions violate the legal laws, will be punished. Movie is an expression of the director's thoughts. Hence 100% legal
      (6) There is more violence in books than movies coz everything can not be easily converted into audio-visual format. Yet, movies are considered as more capable of influencing due to the visual format
      (7) Movie is a creative field. If a director is worried about movie's influence on public, he can not be creative. Already there are extremely limited number of stories all over the world. If story telling is also restricted, it prevents the expression of director's creativity. I believe movie should be allowed to be completely creative and drop censor board also because there is no censor to movies on internet (OTTs, etc)
      (8) If a guy is negatively influenced by movies, that's his problem. Different people get differently influenced. Depends on the intellectual strength of the guy. Country's legal rules take care of misbehaving guys. Eventually, it's up to a guy how he wants to live. All kinds of people exist in society with or without movies.
      (9) If a girl in the society is facing the negative side of movie's influence on a guy, the girl can use her analytical skills to make wiser decisions. Else, up to her fate.

Movie scary. And the man who made it, who is catering to the people with same warped mentality as his own. It scares girls and women like me that this world is not a safe place to live. May be You are right. As women we are stupid to think that in the last 15-20 years, the new generation of men have evolved. I myself can give honest remarks about some scenes in movie which were not necessary at all.
But given that Ranvijay (Ranbir Singh) still was with his wife, kids and yes, his father, all brothers he deployed from village and also asking for forgiveness from Brah or brar whatever in ending fight scene.
Movie really is a masterpiece and pinnacle of any action or gore violence ever produced in Indian cinema.
All action scenes, dialogues, especially upbeat music makes it so enticing god knows what people experienced in theatre if someone watched that scene where 'Ranvijay killed all those men with masks single-handedly and starting of song and shouting meaningful lyrics.
There's never been a movie like this before in Bollywood.
Just one simple suggestion don't try to watch this family unless you radically open minded or of westernised thought. May be you can watch action but when it comes to dialogues and body language its something you never want to see with elders.
With that said everyone should watch these movie because it simply a experience which was never created in Indian movies.
May be down the line 5-10 years we can expect movies like memories of murders, parasites, old boy, raid 2 especially for action here too.

When it comes to a top 5, I don't have an exhaustive list, but some films that come to mind are Lagaan, Forrest Gump, Black Friday, Raman Raghav, Psycho, Pyaasa, Sholay, Fight Club, Danny Boyle's Jobs, Offside, Bicycle Thief.... Bohot saari hai.

He mentioned director celebrated Animal characters. But by which way he celebrated ? What makes characters being celebrated?

Having uplifting soundtrack, showing stylized visuals, having the main character show no remorse or even being proud of the behaviour . Some ways to make audience support the character.

      1. Having uplifting soundtrack? Every movies has some kind of bgm for protagonist or antagonist which liked by audience according to their taste, don't know how it relate to celebrate ing wrong deeds of thay character
      2. Stylish visuals? 😂 Again every movie has different types of stylish visuals even for villain, people liking it doesn't necessarily mean that they support the wrong doings of the charector
      3. Also charector showing no remorse of what he had done thats why movie name is animal

I am a kind where I liked some parts but hated too much violence.... I didn't understand suddenly so many people came in the hotel and started fighting.....No law and order was shown in the Mumbai.... His father was rich industrialist but that doesn't mean that there is no police or law and order to stop so much killing.... some parts make sense where he is a protective brother... but again taking a gun in a college didn't make any sense....

I think being such a diverse country we cannot counsel upon the morality point of view while watching entertainment content, by the same logic young girls shouldn't be watching 'Four More Shots' cause its so wrong on so many levels but here we are that show has 3 seasons cause people (majorly girls) watch it, do it leave an impression on them? Yes!, is it scary to think about? Yes!

Four more shots is garbage and animal is also garbage. Where is sensible content gone these days. Everything is so extreme.

Hii..I am confused..in one point you said you liked the character arjun Reddy but you hated kabir singh where both are same characters played by different actors as one movie is complete remake of the other of same director
2nd had you been watched animal in laptop with headphones on as you say abt arjun reddy then you would have had a different opinion but the point is when arjun Reddy was released its was also released in theatres where people had such reactions when they watch animal.. so the phase cat drinks milk with closed eyes thing the whole world is blind is justified in in your thoughts?

    • @novacanemusic97

I didn't like Shahid's performance in Kabir Singh. Plus since I had already seen Arjun Reddy before KS, I didn't think it was necessary.
And definitely dude. If I'd have seen Animal on OTT, my experience would have been drastically different. The subjective experience you have while watching a film matters to me a lot. I don't think I can watch films in a vaccum. The dark room, the audience, the sound do change something...

No one how anyone defends it i mean his review is very complicated and it's because it's not one of the movies that you can straight up cheer it takes a lot of security as a man to call out the basic toxicity in this movie. This movie is toxic and i qm saying this as a human being. I have seen violence but relating violence to masculinity and feeling of that this is wrong.

Why would anyone go so deep, it' s just a craft enacted beautifully by brilliant actors, it is same as great women potray different beautiful roles on the screen. Come on, Sandeep created a great movie yet again, if someone doesn't like it , dnt watch it brother/sister, but just don't pull someone down for what they created, I am a woman but I am not offended about how he has potrayed men & women in the movies, it is just 3 hour dramatic movie. It's how one percieves the content, none can sit and judge Tom n Jerry and make sense out of it. I think we all need to try to find sense in our own lives rather than sitting and judging around. I had fun, songs are beautiful and all the actors did a good job!! Peace out & stay blessed😊😊🙏🙏

1:25 The confusion is basically because of the Normalization factor lurking around the protagonist of the movie. If you really want to learn about making a toxic movie and present a bad protagonist to the audience, watch the film "Pudhupettai (2006)".

RGV and Vanga are 2 directors who have dismantled the stereotype movies.
A hero may be masculine enough to save his family at the same time succumb for the love of his only hero.
Secondly the brotherhood the way social construct worked ,the way he reaches out to his cousins is something to take as a learning.
The conviction he wants from his wife is all that a man needs to achieve and sail through tides.
The character of Rannvijay doesnt ask you to losen your pants or cheat rather explains that how " the man " is vulenerable infront of a woman.
I had prejudices about the movie.Went to watch Ranbir & for the sake of director Vanga.Well crafted movie.
what I remembered when Ranbir slit the throat is 2 things - the last offer of Krishna to give 5 villages to avoid Mahabharta and the way ISIS slit the throats .
Lastly , wokes ki L laga di Sanddep Vanga ne
