It's designed to save the company money. 1070 is not 1095. It's so thin, it'll flap in the wind. It's also made in el Salvador, not Nepal or even the US.
I've owned a few Kukri's over the years. The $19 BudK Special, some stupid zombie special kukri with a window breaker in the pommel bought for $19 at Big5. The CRKT Austin Designed seems to be the best as it is a decent size and stock thickness while being light and handy enough to use as a knife. While i love the Kukri, mainly due to Resident Evil Extinction (i like a bad movie, sue me), i do find most manufacturers have the habit of focusing on one aspect or the other. The Kukri is either a heavy machete only useful for splitting logs or cutting thick foliage or it is a light knife not suited for heavier abuse or field work. While i am not a Condor fan per se, this does seem like they tried to strike a decent compromise between the two uses like an original Nepalese Kukri does.
