MV7Mic - Jak na to + styl
Thank you for doing the test with the USB connection. I don't have XLR stuff, and I was so confused as to why I was so quiet when the microphone was claiming to be near clipping. When I saw your USB setting for the microphone, I set mine to the same and it sounds so much better now.
Just got this mic as a gift. Was using a turtle beach usb mic and when I listened to my vod on YT from this past weekend, there was a huge difference between that stream and my previous streams. I sound 1000% better.
This is a very different type of review than anything out there. And I love it, surprised you don't have that many subs!
I dunno, mid to high freq in your voice is exaggerated. To me you sound much more natural without all the compressing. Thanks for the info!
the highs were just sounding harsh in this, some multiband comp and maybe better deessing
He sounds great to me after the processing
Thanks for doing all the side by side comparisons that really helped. Great video!
the fact that its a usb and xlr hybrid was what made me purchase it. I don't yet have the money to invest in an audio interface, but also not money for buying another microphone once i do get an audio interface. With this, i can just use the usb output until i get an audio interface. so nice!
Just ordered one on Amazon. Thanks for the review ❤️
Incredible review! I appreciate all the insight.
Thanks for the super thorough explanation and showcasing all the usage points! Watched this before buying :D Hope I can make amazing videos like you soon!!
FYI, you can put a Shure SM7B foam screen on a Shure MV7 microphone, and it makes the MV7 much better. If the MV7 had USBC instead of microUSB connection, I'd love it. Instead, my main mic is the SM7B with the Elgato Wave XLR. It gives the SM7B modern perks.
Thanks you so much for the review.
Thanks for a great video might get this one for my DJ streams on twitch
which is great for people who don't have a DAW or a interface. Using the XLR connection will sound better than the USB going into a DAW like Cubase, which is what I use. I have a Phonic Summit 16 channel mixer which is what I plug my mic into which is my interface for Cubase. I add processing like noise gate (which will cut out typing noise or desk noise). I also use the Slate Digital everything bundle along with Izotope to make the mic sound amazing. Then instead of running the 2 XLR cables to my studio monitors I route those into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 which is my stream Labs interface. I've been using a Shure beta 87a for my streaming mic but this mic is not made for spoken dialogue. So I ordered the Shure MV7 and should be on my door step today. Shure really stepped their game up on this one making it possible for someone who has no audio interface at all to go USB in and sound great. I commend Shure for making this product. Can't wait to hook it up.
Very nice review. My cousin and his band used Shure microphones and they were very nice. I am looking very strongly at Shure for a podcast microphone. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for your review. This has convinced me to purchase this mic next. Under $200. Thanks.
I've been using a Blue Snowball Ice since I started working from home last spring. Having a workspace with a 3rd grader just outside the usually open door has made it abundantly clear that I need a better mic. This looks like a winner for cutting out background noise and having a much better audio quality than the Snowball or my webcam can provide. Great review, thanks for putting it together and showing the USB/XLR difference.
+Jeremiah True my pleasure. The MV7 is a wonderful choice.
@@awalldigitalI’m alive
Thank you for doing the test. I just returned the Shure SM7B for this mic. Beside the high cost for the SM7b, you also have to buy a cloudfilter.
Amazing review sir. Great work
Love your stuff, man.
Thanks! Was not sure to go for it or not, but you made me sure! Great video 😊
Shurely a good choice
@@MangoMouse1604 funny that towards the end of the video he mis names it the Rhode mv7. Surely this was an oversight.
Great review thank you,
Instasub my dude. Exact information I was looking for. I found this after wanting to learn how to tweak my MV7 I just purchased. I figured out that the audio interface on this mic is better than a lot of dedicated USB audio interfaces and it comes with everything Shure. Impressive package.
First 20 seconds of the clip and you tackled pretty much what majority of the people on youtube comments came for. Great stuff man!
holy hell! that usb connection sounded unreal
Thank you for the review of the Shure MV7. I'm considering purchasing this microphone, but I have to ask, would you recommend this microphone for gaming and voice acting?
This video was very helpful, thank you ! I am still undecided if to go the XLR route and getting the rodecaster as well. You mentioned the quality of XLR is top notch over USB until this mic came out, would you say it's still better to use XLR than the MV7 USB and its software? My podcast occasionally has some in person guests if that makes any difference.
Very nice video. I’m buying this mic. Thanks.
great review!!
Honesty even without any processing the sound still sounds great!
you should do a whispering test on the USB without the OBS filters.... for us ASMR peeps who want something other than the yeti... can't use those OBS filters, coz they filter out part of the whispering... would love to hear you doing super quiet whispers, with and withoutt the windscreen!!
thanks for the review, its by far the best assessment I have seen! have you tried MV7+ and whether added enhanced digital processing is worth the extra price? thanks
Great video. Are you using the Rodecaster Pro to switch cams?
Fantastic Review! By the way are u also using a green screen and what video recording or streaming app did u use for this video ?
Hi thanks for this informative video 🙏🏼 Questikn though… Is Rode caster pro only a mixer or also a sound card you can connect to your phone when live streaming? Thanks 🙏🏼
wow the unprocessed sound was better IMO. thank you for this great review
I like the NO HISS. When you stop talking, it sounds like the video is over. I like that sound. Very clean. Crisp.
I listened to this video and ordered the MV7 on eBay just now. LOL! A little over $200 and ordered a new boom versus the one I have. Thanks for this video. Induced me to pull the trigger on the deal. It'll be here around September 2, 2023. Feel free to listen to my current livestreams that I've done for the past year and then after I run the MV7, I'll hear the difference.
Thank you! This was a great video. I am narrowing down my options and I think I will go with the MV7 so I dont have to purchase (for now) the audio interface!
Thanks for the video, is that necessary to have the headset too?
I’ve used this mic now for about 2 years to record vocals snare drums high hats toms ride and crash cymbals guitar amps and acoustic guitar . I use it xlr thru my interface . My only complaint about the mic is in usb mode the head phone audio out isn’t loud enough . Other than that it’s 10 out of 10
Great Video. I do have one question. Are you able to use the USB with the rodecaster? I use stream yard and have guests on and for whatever reason, when I plug my USB into my laptop or the USB HUB, it doesn’t register on the USB channel of mixer. StreamYard recognizes it and it registers there, but no signal to Rodecaster.
Thanks for this, for 250 it sounds like a massive upgrade to what I already have, and even though the mixer sounds great, the 500 for that bit of better quality really doesn't seem all that needed to start out with ^^;
Outstanding review!! Very informative.
Fantastic comparisons between the USB and XLR capabilities and very thorough software review. As for all the digital processing, it sounds like Shure is using the computer’s audio capabilities to do the role of mic preamp (a la Cloudlifter). But, whoa! @10:03-10:04 “So that is the Rode MV7 microphone...”. Okay, so no one’s perfect. 😉
I caught that, too! lol But, yes, he's allowed because he does a heck of an excellent review/demo. Got mine a couple of weeks ago - huge upgrade from a very old Samson CO1! - for DJ'ing on an internet radio station and VO. Absolutely love the sound and all the flexibility around it, and the high user-friendliness. The desktop app to adjust EQ, compression, gain, etc. is awesome.
2:03 the best fix for that is the RK345. put that filter on instead. it clears everything up.
If you compare the MV7 in USB to a Blue Yeti X for podcasting, which would be best? I like the visual audio level on the front of the Yeti X
great thanks!
Are you using OBS to film this video? I see you touch your stream key to switch cameras and I don't see an Atem Mini on your desk.
Good vid! Question, about vst’s the shure app has with this mic. If I’m recording directly into my daw I use which is audacity with the effects be captured? If so does the app need to remain open to capture these effects? Thanks
What app/prog you use for the pink arrows in this video my friend?
Hey, Andrew. Thanks for the video. I am considering either the Blue Yeti or Shure MV& for MS Teams and Zoom calls and wondering if you can clarify something for me. Both mics have the monitoring headphone jack, but without ever having owned a mic like these, I am wondering if I plug my headphones into the jack on the mic, will I hear both myself and the computer's audio (Windows 10) or would I have to either (a) change the computer's audio out source to be the MV7 or (b) should I just be plugging in the headphones into the laptop's headphone jack. Thanks!
Am I the only one preferring pre-processed sound? It was much less ice picky and had more low end
The sound through usb is good enough, I think.
If you use the usb and the Shure software - does that carry over to video conferencing, Zoom etc? Do you have to do any special set up for that?
Hey, lovely video, great talk-through. But you're obviously a Rode fan - you called the Shure MV7 a Rode MV7 at 10:05. :)
Glad I stumbled upon this video, well done man and subbed 🤌🏽
Great review! why didn't they just go for the USB-C?
Thank you for the review. How good is the Micro USB connection. I have one device where it loosened up over time and now is not holding solidly into the slot. One review that I saw indicated the acoustic foam of the MV7 is very thin at the front of the mic and causes a problem with plosives. I bought a simple and very effective acoustic screen that fits in the head of my ball mic and i reommend it's use for this mic. it's called the "Popper Blocker" and is only around $5.00.
Where to buy the popper blocker online?
Hi here. Thanks for the video. This mic has real time audio zero latency as the RODE USB MINI has?
The blue yeti is still amazing, especially with some quick editing in audacity
Hi, thanks for your video! Is it important to open the shureplus software every time I use the mic? Or once the setup is been done, I can keep it closed.
I hate that I watched this lmao... This video sold me entirely. Looking to get a new Mic and stumbled across this video while looking for mics around $100 this certainly isn't that cheap but this is on my list when I'm able to afford it. Awesome video!
How does Shure's software compare to the basic Voicemeeter software? I'm using a Blue Yeti Satin Red through Nvidia Broadcast and Voicemeeter and I love the sound.
Some people have suggested getting a Shure RK345 to put on it to help with the plosives.
Very nice mic💪
Love this review! I'm looking for a new mic due to mine not being the best. My keyboard is pretty loud and i have alot of background noise due to my pc being next to a busy road, would this be a good choice mic? I'm looking for something to not pick up all the background noise i have..
Yes it's a fantastic mic and good for background noise.
I just bought one 1 hour ago on Amazon and I’m hyped to it to get here
It was home a time ago and it’s amazing 10/10 tbh
2:19 Congrats! Did you happen to find that touch dial abysmally unresponsive or is it just *my* unit?
@@IllusionSector I think it’s your unit, mine is very responsive
This is a great video
Would it be crazy to ask you to make a video that shows zoomers how to use OBS as a mixer for their Shure MV7
before sending the signal into zoom?
Im not gamer so Im not looking to screen capture
Im hoping to get the best audio from MV7 before zoom records it
Maybe theres a better free or inexpensive software to make my MV7 sound as good as yours does.
Either way thank you for making this video so clear and easy to understand!!
It has inspired me to keep trying to create better sound.
hi
It would be great if you do a FDUCE SL40 review. There may also be a brief comparison with the MV7.
I’m so so glad I decided to do a little homework before buying another yeti .. I’m sold already ..xlr and usb ? I was wanting to upgrade to xlr eventually .. if I buy this one I don’t need to !!
I have had this mic for about 30 days, I have the usb and the xlr with a GOXLR mini. I love this thing. I also have a blue yeti that is now safely in my drawer. Shure has done an amazing job on this mic. Worth every dollar.
Hi Don,
I just picked up the mv7 less than 30 days ago, and plan to use with my podtrak p4 which acts like an interface with xlr ports. It only has gain dials. I'm curious if you have both the USB and xlr connect while using your GOXLR mini and can use the app to dial in the mic settings. Appreciate any feedback you could provide. Thanks!
@@adadsthing650 That’s a great question, I did have the XLR hooked into a go XLR mini and the USB plugged in as well. The USB portion Diles the microphone in pretty good, but the go Alex or mini does a better job so I tend to use that. After a while I would head and unplug the USB just because sometimes it changed to use the USB instead of the co-LX are mini. I had both dialed in and they work really well. This Mike is one of the best investments I’ve ever made. So the answer is yes I use both from time to time but mostly The go LXR mini. It’s software does compression and all that other stuff that I want done.
Much appreciated Don! I just checked out what your XLR mini is, and I can see how just dialing that in with the mv7 will get great sound. I'm a newbie in a sence, but will do some testing to see if I can tune in on the app and still record on my podtrak. It sound like I may, but will be going through USB instead of xlr. One day I'll be upgrading to a zoom p8 and my "problem" will be solved😂 Either way, it's a great mic. Thanks again 👍🏾
@@adadsthing650 I have had many microphones for my PC. This particular microphone is the best I have ever used, the quality is great, voice reproduction enhancement is great. I love this thing and would purchase it all over again.
@@donbowers1159 my first time using a USB mic and I absolutely love it. Once I learn how it ties together with my whole system, I know I'll love it even more. I did an interview yesterday, and when I played back the zoom recording, audio sounded terrible and my hopes it that isn't how I sounded to the guest. But when I played back the audio the I recorded in my podtrak p4, it sounded beautiful! Syncing that audio with the video will be a little extra work, but we'll worth it once project is complete. I'll keep tinkering and see what happens. Appreciate your time!
I have a untreated room is this a good option to reduce all background noise ? I have a rode NTK 1 and it picks up everything. I do have my rode hooked up thru dbx processer which eliminated most floor noise but I'm interested in this.
This is a top-quality review. Well done and thank you sir.
what settings do you have on OBS? i have a semi loud background so im trying to figure out the best settings! i lost the good settings i had when i had to reset my pc so im strugglin lol
Best video on this mic around
I am going to go for it, thank you for this video. I see mixed reviews/thoughts of the MV7. I want to get it because I wanna future proof myself, and el gato wave 3 is 130 right now, but I can get the wave xlr down the line if I really want that wave link software
You're welcome! I am happy I could assist you in making that final decision. When you do purchase it and test it out, let me know how it goes
@@awalldigital sure thing, I am going to try getting the arm and microphone first, and then get the shock mount. Going to try it as a USB first before I go to the XLR route. Thanks again :)
@@unrealfeedzz dude what shock mount is compatible with mv7? None of them say the compatibility
@@unrealfeedzz how was the experience? It's not a rugged mic as per few reviews.
hey, what were your compressor settings on OBS? also, would it interfere with the compressor from the motiv app when turned on together?
Hi thanks for the video!! I have a question! Is there any specific cord you recommend for the USB to USB connection? Or possibly even a XLR - USB? wondering what’s best. I want a good quality cord
USB to XLR doesnt work unfort but USB mini to USB A that can do USB 3.0 would work very well :)
What do your compressor and limiter settings in OBS look like for this mic? Anyone have suggestions?
Okay i should buy this
Might be finally time to upgrade my AT2020 USB :O
How will this do with louder and harder vocals? Speaking as a mezzo belt singer and a loud punch rapper. TIA
Can you share your OBS filter setting you used for this microphone. I just bought one but always struggle to find what I like in OBS
So since the mic comes with a built in processing software, does that mean the mixing box is optional?
I am a educational content creator and planning to buy this one. Any review on reducing keyboard sounds with this?
For sound quality i.e natural true sound would this be better or the Blue Yeti X ?
I scanned the comments but didn’t see anyone mention that this mic with the processing enabled sounds very ESSie.
What are the Velcro’s you used for the usb cord? As I have the same arm.
I'm currently recording with a Blue Yeti Pro. Is it worth it to purchase the Shure MV7 or stay with the Yeti Pro?
hi, which software you use for recording voice? Thanks
Can I ask what OBS plugins you are using please?
It has an internal shock mount. You dont need to buy and external one. The sound of you knocking, was just the sound of knocking. I wasnt vibration shock.
i now know what i’m upgrading to.
Wat software r u using other than shure free software. Is that possible to use it for live zoom n teams calls.
Great video! Helpful tip: shutter speed 1/150 at least for the green screen to avoid spill on your hands since you’re an active hand motion person :)
I bought one right after watching this video, but the sounds come with obvious electrical noise. I changed pcs, cellphones, cables, and even the earphone, all the settings are correct according to customer service's guide. The problem remains unsolved. Do you have any suggestions?
Is this good for singing? Looking to upgrade my zoom game (currently using Samson Q2U)
lol, what recording software is that allow you to draw arrows on the screen?
Am I the only one who immediately clicks back and looks for another video when the host tell me "you need to watch all the way to the end."?
I want to use this mic to stream direct from my ps5 i was wondering if i hook the xlr can i get the processing from my apollo on the ps5 stream, or atleast get the shure technology to work through the ps5
I'm new to all this, and the number one challenge is that it's really quiet when connected through USB. I am trying to edit the audio with Audacity to amplify it but idealy wish to get a nice and loud sounding voice at the end. The sure settings don't seem to do the trick. I'm researching for a solution, and looks like getting that XLR cable and Scarlet thing might be the answer. Is that right?
I'm new to this stuff. I've been making CZcams videos for a while now and I think it's time to get something better than my old cheap Razer headset but I don't understand what is going on here. Is he getting the audio quality he has right now just with this mic or does he use a program or that mixer thing he mentions to get said quality? What is a mixer what does it do?
Edit: What is raw XLR?
I am thinking to buy Shure MV7 or IK Multimedia iRig Mic HD 2 for my Rockschool Vocal exam. I would like to use iphone to record my exam for submission. I am totally is video recording beginner , I would like to seek you advice. Thanks.
