  • Welcome to the World Athletics Watch Party, join the conversation on Twitter with our hashtag #WatchWorldAthletics.
Karsten Warholm of Norway, beaten consistently last year by Qatar’s rising force of Abderrahman Samba, had the final word here as he retained his men’s 400m hurdles world title tonight on his rival’s home ground.
Warholm ran his trademark race, starting fast and taking a clear lead by the halfway point before hanging tough to cross the line in 47.42 ahead of the hugely talented Rai Benjamin of the United States, who clocked 47.66. Samba, whose season has been interrupted by injury, took bronze in 48.03.

Doha was probably a bit too late in the season to produce a world record. Considering that Warholm did 46,92 earlier this year, this may not be an impossible task for him next year, though.

Based on the times that were being set by Warholm and Benjamin during 2018 and 2019, with them running the second and third fastest times ever, I was truly expecting a world record. But the order in which they finished was no surprise because Warholm, Benjamin and Samba, despite Smaba's injury and comeback, were the dominant athletes. Great final, just expected faster times.

wow, i think thats most inteligent and eficient trick, instead of diving or heading, you use your hand to reach the finish so you can cut the time more early.
