Let the citizens protect their neighborhoods in a sensible way. The tires and speed bumps seem appropriate to me.

A solution that works is unacceptable.
Those speed bumps cost $200 each on Uline not including shipping. This community isn't playing around. The city of Oakland needs to just get out of the way at this point.
They installed in very awkward positions though. They clearly didn’t know what they were doing. It might thwart sideshows but they clearly didn’t take daily traffic into consideration.
Professionals aka the city should have done it.
The tires being removed are justified. They blocked the middle section of the road.

The city should give grants to communities to install their own barriers. Just give them the stipulations and what materials they can use and go at it. It's ridiculous that the city does nothing.

When are you going to interview the city council members about this? The ones who don't want to do anything about side shows. You just report the problem and never interview the people(govt) who allow this.

What about the SF board of supervisors? Where are they hiding or vacationing? They aren't doing anything either. The public has to demand better leaders who focus and bettering our communities and state instead being a divisive politician. It's never about the community or state.
There are no investigative journalist or unbiased journalist. Just reporters who have a limited amount of stories about what's going on are the same for all times of the news. OH! Even recalls aren't breaking news. But, that car tire in Texas is.

That flipped burgundy Lexus was reported speeding and trying to perform some stunt, and ended up winning the stupid prize.
The person speeding would have ended up crashing and landing on their side if they had hit another car or anything left in the street the tires werent the problem.
The city isn’t helping the neighborhoods but is helping the criminals. Business as usual 😮
Damn sideshows have destroyed the calm peaceful neighborhood of Dimond district Oakland! The crosswalk paint obscured by tire tracks where seniors and disabled need to cross safely. Goes on for 20-40 minutes with NO POLICE at all hours. It's like mad max😢

You would think cities would be desperate to hear from communities since they would know the problems and may actually have good ideas. Maybe not individually, but like putting a puzzle together, a little bit of that with that other idea and that idea too. Like the homeless. Where do they go when there is a "clean up"? They aren't asking advocates or focusing on those who truly want to get a home. Like families. It's going to take a process and alot of help and time.

The problem with that is MOST of the "people" who "live" in oakland are liberals. Their welfare checks aren't taxable.

So a business on International gets covered in graffiti. The cost to repaint is in the thousands. The city of Oakland gives you a notice to remove the graffiti or pay thousands of dollars in fines. In this case homeowners/citizens want a safer street and the city removes the safety features that were installed because the city won’t do themselves. Look at yourself in the mirror city of Oakland leaders. Fix the problems.

The city did the same thing with the years of potholes neglected and as soon as a citizen took action and filled the potholes, what did the city do? They lectured the public and only then filled the potholes whilst cameras were rolling.

I saw the last piece on a neighborhood converting the intersection into a roundabout. GOOD FOR YOU, OAKLAND !! Keep fighting ! The city has failed you, and you deserve better. If a car ends up on its side...it was speeding. Period. Your system is WORKING.

We had an issue like this when I was a kid. It was in rural SC. I recall that after the fine gentlemen with the muscle cars end up have to Bondo over a few holes in their pretty rides, they took their shenanigans to the next county.

This is great!!! Residents taking steps to protect their own communities. A simple solution to a dangerous problem.
Some cities have “cruising” laws stating rules like if a vehicle comes down the same street more than x number of times in x number of minutes then vehicles could be cited. Enforcing this law along with loitering laws should give police 👮 the ability to make more arrests.
I think these laws along with physical barriers would curb these gatherings.
You can’t just put those there. That is a lane of traffic for turning.
That red car didn't have front end damage. So damage wasn't done by hitting a tire, it was done in some other way, and most likely from something illegal. FACTS and good questions are a must.
It just proves how lazy the police and mayor are, along with all those in charge of protecting the residents and those who drive in Oakland.
It's time that, not just Oakland residents, but all of California residents (SF?) who are left with lazy apathetic city leaders, to start coming together for the greater good and safety for the residents, business owners and those who shop and work in those cities. Government (all parties) are becoming apathetic hope the people will get tired and just let things be so they don't have to spend money.

This should go to show that the streets we have for residential neighborhoods should not be so wide. The amount of space there is gives people the ability to do reckless activity like this.
Street redesign that minimizes the ability for reckless driving behavior in dense populated areas.

I love what those citizens are doing but yeah- I understand why the city took the tires out. A car flipped. You need something designed for the task with safety in mind- like those speed bumps they also installed. I wish them all the best of luck and hope they resolve the sideshow problem.

Vote out current mayor and entire city council. Guarantee the new city council will put up barriers.

I have an idea that could prevent a lot of these sideshows from happening but unfortunately CZcams won't let me say what I'm going to say on the first part of it but the second part of it would be if those Neighbors in the neighborhood were all this is happening would have bags of spiky little things known as caltrops spread all over the road I'll guarantee you that will flatten the tires out from these people doing sideshows.

Police departments should not just hire anybody willy-nilly off the streets. Why? Is the recruitment that bad. And all of you good cops out there not just retired ones should speak up against this because this eventually tarnished the image of everyone in law enforcement.

@@vndragonslayer1 What does a DA have to do with road design?! Oakland kept the speed bumps throughout the intersection but took down the makeshift median. The trouble is Oakland roads are too wide. A typical street should only have eight-foot-wide lanes, as those visually narrow the road and make drivers more aware about whether they might sideswipe a vehicle.
