My father was a marine. 1971 his helicopter had to make an emergency landing, behind enemy lines and no where close to a fire base he and three others waited all night for a special unit like these men here to find and rescue them. Dad said it was the scariest night of his life
Hueys were the work horses in Vietnam. Pilots were sitting targets, their hands full of controls. Brave men. Never had a chopper take off without the wounded men they came for. 65-67.
After his harrowing experience on August 20th 1972, Captain Lawrence remained in the service until his retirement as Major Lawrence in 1986. Sadly he passed away on July 28th 2012. R.I.P Sir...
My friend "Murph" flew Jolly Greens for The Kings Men. After the war he flew search and rescue at Luke. He was killed when a faulty main rotor repair became delaminated. RIP Larry
I was only 11, when this particular incident happened. All I knew, growing up, was the Vietnam war. So proud of our boys who put on uniforms and fought the fear!
Imagine the hardest of the hardest ,ie: green B's ,never seals , rangers ,delta force needing rescued. Here comes the jolly greens , the pjs . so that others may live.
One of the most difficult rescues has been covered in several aviation magazines and is online under “Rescue of Lady Ace 72”. I’m the army aviator that received his emergency radio call and it took about two and a half hours to find him. The rest of the rescue had to abort due to heavy anti aircraft fire and SA7 missiles. Ultimately they were rescued but it was forty years before I found out that two Army aviators were able to get them out
It was a source of comfort for my BN and I that Jolly Green would attempt a rescue if we were shot down. It takes an immense amount of courage to fly a slow moving helicopter into territory where a fast moving A-6 was shot down.

1/9 Air cav
So others might life.
Brings back lots of memories for me: 1969-1970 Tuy Hoa, Vietnam - 39th Rescue & Recovery Squadron. Yep, I'm 74 and still kicking.
Good man!
Thank you

Good job Bill. Like this video.
Worked with PJs on a unit exercise. If my old wrinkled gray behind gets in a real jam, I hope those studs come for me.
Outstanding! Great work men!!

I don't think that "brave" adequately describes these guys.

The Jolly Greens sure looked a lot like Black Hawks...
The military should of never stopedmakeing these films.
No it's about changing the rules so transgenders and soy boys can get in.
