The Moral of the story is that you can't assume how privileged someone's life is just by looking at them.
This is pretty good. It’s making fun of people who base the privilege of others purely on race and gender, when disabilities and class are so much more important
Saarah xxx gender and race are important obviously but I agree 100%%%% class and disabilities are so much more important when basing “privilege”
No it isn’t
the point isnt judging whats more important on the scale but saying having a scale is ridiculous because everyone has privileges and disadvantages for countless factors
@@frozty1702 True, but ultimately it's perceived privilege that matters. So I might be poor, disabled and gay, but because I'm a white man I'm far more privileged than a rich Nigerian girl with a law degree from Harvard.
They are equally important. You get judged for both so neither are more important than the other, they’re both stereotyped and profiled.
" I love dating women with children because they got the best cereal!" - classic.
I thought this was gonna be a buzzfeed esque vid. I was pleasantly surprised, well done bbc3.
Daniel Jim A. Opolot exactly same as me
What racism?
Because it's old BBC
Translation: I'm a privileged white dude and I'm happy that this video didn't call it out much
@@smellypatel5272 who, me?
You probably couldn’t hear the call for prayer. This killed me hahahahaha
The main point is that privilege is subjective and there's no absolute scale. We can't quantify or even account for every single type of privilege. However, I would say there are certain privileges that are weighted more for a specific topic/experience.
IWillNotConform As a straight white male, I have the privilege to dislike your comment.
Oh wait so does that Pansexual Hindu...
Those privileges are applied differently to different cultures and countries...so a majority Christian country benefits....you guessed it. Malaysia.. Islamic country, benefits Malay people who are Muslims...China...benefits Chinese people
i can't tell if this is making fun of, or in support of, privilege stuff :P
edit: watch the whole thing. it's not exactly making fun, but it's making the point that you can't judge people based on individual actions and groupings, and instead have to consider them as a whole.
Sam Scott same' old lefty propaganda by the BBC to divided society's.
but the video is literally going against that point. I don't know if you even watched it lol
In my humble opinion it's trying to say that you have to consider people as individuals
It is satire . It is just showing that you cannot judge someone on how they look. Something that SOME of us still teach our children . If it is a left wing agenda then im a proud left winger .
Jay Cobbina thank you. The point of the video is too show that you can't maginalise a group of people and say they have it better or they are more entitled than anyone
Watch till the end. It's actually a comedy.
D P anyone with half a brain can tell this was intended to be a "comedy". Doesn't change the fact that it's not funny
D P Its not a comedy. They just put jokes into it. The message is serious though, practically. Streotypinng is stupid, and thats what leads to privelledge. Which isn't really real when you get to know the person.
woah no way
Romans 10:9
If you declare with your mouth,Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved 💝
It's odd to me how many people click on a BBC video about privilege and just assume it's trying to push a far left agenda and don't even attempt to understand the actual message. I really like some of what this channel has been doing as of late, putting forward controversial social/political issues and using humour (whether you find it funny or not is subjective) to find a middle ground that both sides of the political spectrum can be like 'yeah I get where you're coming from', and to bridge the divide slightly. It's a shame to me that seemingly so many people just dismiss it because of what they expect the BBC to be putting out, and not what they're actually trying to get across.
pacific I personally didn't get the humor of it, however I do get the point and I enjoyed the video.
Its mostly because its VERY poorly executed
pacific it is a win win for the BBC. People that can see it for what it is and are capable of critical analysis, are able to appretiate the content. The remaining viewers are recreationally offended, as usual, but the BBC gets loads of views.
matrixrory
It’s really not that hard to understand lmao, people just miss the point and don’t even seem like they’re trying to get it.
dackjanielsmeup the trouble is, when people dont get it. They are mocked. The more inclusive approach would be to explain the theory in different terms. Engaging the ignorance and spreading knowledge.
I'm surprised this actually has a good message
folk not getting that it's a skit and getting all offended 😂 get a grip guys
I'm offended by how unfunny this is.
yes this is the true lowpoint of society. Your perspective is truly great.
This is the sort of skits we do nowadays? All that pisses me off about it, is that was made by the BBC which is funded by taxpayers money to report on the facts unbiased.
i never said it was funny. i just said it was clearly intended as a joke. It's making fun of shite like Buzzfeed and tumblr where they all compete to be the least priviledged and the video suggesting its lidicrous to try and categorise people based on how opressed they are, because there's too many factors you dont know from looking at someone. It's not all about race, religion, sexual orientation or gender. You can be a black trans muslim lesbian but you might be more priviledged than a straight white male who is a homeless, legless war veteran, for example.
It's not funny at all, i hear ya. Honestly i was more amused by all the little babies in the comments taking the vid at face value more than i did at the actual video.
That's all i was trying to say people. Honestly, you're all sheep.
So BBC isn't allowed to do comedy? what's your point?!
"you have headphones in... is that how privileged-?"
*"its a hearing aid"*
im fuckin dEAD
As a man who got famous on youtube once said, "Just take intersectionality to its conclusion and you'll realize everyone is an individual"
He was saying out loud what most of us would think. Hilarious. Nice work BBC3!!
I find it funny how many people are clicking on this video and giving it a dislike because of the title even though they haven’t watched the whole video, and if they did then they would realise that it’s not attacking any group, just making fun of how we all seem so desperate to put ourselves in specific boxes.
I actually thought this was pretty funny.
This was really well done - the guy presenting was good!
British Chris Rock
I love how the people in the row are just standing there looking dead serious while this guy just makes fun of them.
"lactose intolerant" 😂😂😂💀💀💀
When he thought the dudes hearing aids were ear buds I died😂😂
Good video. Teaches a lesson that is obvious but society has forgotten.
What's that?
They always got the Best Cereal had me 😂😂😂
This is actually funny ! I was expecting the worst when I saw bbc and and the title but this is good 👍
Great message we have our own struggle regardless of our privileges
First thing from the BBC that isn't race or gender hate against the straight white male. Bravo you're learning.
He had me at Eczema😂😂
1:36 no CHICKEN just JoLLoF? 😂😂🤣
Lmao my favourite video in a while honestly, black dude had me cracking up when they guy was like “no it’s a hearing aid”
We did this in class as a response to a racist comment and it totally backfired because in the front were all rich black and Mexican kids and in the back were all poor white kids 😂
It's a pleasant surprise to see BBC post such a video
This was great especially the fox hunting bit at the end haha
This just shows how much work we have left to do. It will take ages until everyone is properly classified, and we can determine the relevant degree of guilt each must bear; and how they should be made to pay.
The point is is that understanding your own privalage in the context of others it really hard--- basically that's it's a complicated discussion that has no clear answer
On an unrelated note, Vegan diets are actually the cheapest - considered the peasants diet. As the staples of a vegan diet are the cheapest things in the supermarket like beans, rice, potatoes and other vegetables. Other than that, great video very funny - just thought I’d make this point.
Aloof Obsessions malnutrition is a cheap alternative, one can say yes.
I love this video. yes. I'm tired of people assuming priveleges are only based on race, sex, and sexuality. no. you could be a disabled straight white man who comes from a poor background, has been an orphan, and has a chronic illness. A black gay women in for physical condition, with a good education and lots of money, probably has more privelege, since they'll be able to do more in the world.
I’m sick of people making excuses and blaming everyone else but, themselves!!!!!!!!
This was really well done. Funny as hell!
😂😂😂 thoroughly enjoyed that
This is brilliant. And actually not just funny, but thought provoking too.
wasn't expecting this to be so entertaining!
Lmao at first I thought this was real, then quickly realized it was a joke and a good one at that😂
Took me until the end to get it, but this is actually an important message.
‘No chicken, just Jollof’ ...the worst sort of Jollof 💀
The truth is. Everyone is responsible for their own position in life. Personal accountability is a fading virtue. Stop blaming society and external factors, be an adult and take responsibility for yourself.
oh my god i thought this was for real since it was the bbc
I'm Conservative and I think this video has a very good message. We'll done BBC3
"I love dating single moms because they always have the best cereal" 🤣
That was delightful and funny!
Is that Uncle Roger in a suit?
And also me watching a video more than 2 years ago
True. I'm white I grew up in a single parent household in Australia in the ghetto. My mother raised 5 children by her self. I was bullied my whole life.
I had learning difficulties, and may have asburges as I'm trying to get diagnosed. I almost ended up in jail at 18. I got my life together, studied and traveled the world and the world excuses me of being privileged. My biological dad died of a heroin overdose. At least BBC has some logic.
I thought this was pretty funny.
hun... he is from Laos. that's not china
I COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING AT HIS "ECZEMA" LIKE LMAO
Iv haven’t laughed this much in a while
Hilarious!! Lmao!😂😂👍👍
I❤️ this!!
I'm a white woman with ADHD and although I was born with parents who could support me, I have so many challenges that normal, healthy people don't have to deal with. I really hate it when people tell me I have white privilege because every day is an uphill battle for me. I also hate it when people say I'm oppressed because I'm female.
You are actually lucky to be a female and women don't get oppressed as much as men
@@ianwazowski5607
Very true.
Privilage is a very complex spectrum that goes far beyond race, gender or sexuality. Privilage can be determined by countless factors, such as what kind of area you live in, how rich or poor your family is, whether or not your family treated and raised you well or neglected you, whether you are homeless on the streets or living in a mansion in Beverly Hills.
For example, you cannot tell me a homeless white person is more privilaged than a rich white person just because of their skin colour. It just doesn't work like that. I find it incredibly sad and ignorant how people are assuming what people's lives are like without actually knowing them. Feels like we're going backwards.
Money is the only accurate measure of privilege.
Surprisingly great video about this stuff lol
I'm conservative but that was a really fun video to watch. The guy talking was funny
Funny part was I got the no chicken just jellof joke
This reminds me of The Office lmao
The jollof joke is gonna go over most people's head
😂 I love the Fix hunting joke at the end , I'm about to give up on the BBC
THIS IS A SKIT
Did you mean "This is Shit?"
Privilege is earned and has nothing to do with race! Yes I had both parents who worked and yes had steak every week, my family started at the bottom and earned privilege! Even though my father could have bought me a car or whatever, he never did he told me I have to work and save if I want things! I wish people would understand the difference between words and their meanings. It’s very clear that too many people are ignorant and lazy
It's definitely interesting to see things from other's point of view.
Ok but he said if we're white we have no race did I hear that right!? 0:44
Basically everyone's got problems. Great video.
People are advantaged and disadvantaged for many different reasons, never assume someone's life.
Points well made.
i like this. privilege isnt just about being a white straight male. there are so many factors!
Great video
Lool this is spot on
Well done!
0:02 wild uncle roger
This comedy is great. Really need to break the barriers and loosen up. Honestly surprised to see the bbc post this.
Thank god this video is great, not what I expected from the beeb. Common sense comedy. well done BBC!
This is quite funny 😂
well done 😂😂
What's that bee keeper doind there?
Reverting back to a young train of thought.
In Nepal there are two difrrent types of race living in one country as Nepalese, Indo Iranian & Native Nepalese 'Mongloids' and there is so much racism and discrimination towards Mongloids by Indo Iranians who controls entire country & almost every sectors in Nepal, but UK is very very fair compare to racism & discrimination compare to in Nepal !
I am so against the idea of anyone having 'privilege' but this video was actually really funny 😂
860 dislikes didn't watch the full video hahahhaha worth a watch 😂😂😂
As a vegan I'm TrIgGeReD
leela no one cares
Do vegans drink water
jack bryan no it has bacteria in it and bacteria are alive so
leela Yes, permanently.
It’s a skit calm down😂
True women with kids do always have the best cereal. Priorities right there
Thought this was gonna be a repeat of the "Digital Blackface" video. I'm actually pleasantly surprised
@0:43 they pick the gnarliest looking white dude lol
Wow it’s almost like you should treat people like Individuals instead of trying to categorise them...
This is the perfect video for explaining the absurd "privilege ideocracy" of our times.
Good points. Except it's a privilege to eat meat. The poorest nations in the world live on rice and beans. Not steak and burgers. Having ethics are not from privilege.
This is proof some people spend too much time thinking.?
Parodies both sides. Nice one!
LOL this guy is actually hilarious lmao
Very good! The whole idea of "privilege is utter tosh thought up by, mainly American, liberals and does not stand up to any serious scrutiny. How refreshing to hear this uncomfortable truth aired, especially by the BBC.
Brilliant
I feel privileged to watch Darren Harriott.
Love the accent
Surprisingly funny
Clever...
I use a carrier bag for a bin and I have been blooded. Seems to be a race to get more diverse comedians on screen the problem is it opens the door for people who are just not funny but I enjoyed this so why isn't this guy on Mock the Week
