  • Showing off another "toy", this one is an MC50 from Symbol/ Motorola. Has a 2D barcode imager, WiFi, A magnetic stripe card reader, and an Intel PXA 270 processor. This is an older unit, probably made around 2005-2008, the newer ones are much cooler, but also cost a lot more. Paid $48 for this one because seller did not know if it worked. tested/working ones go for around $100

I hear some Ham gear in the background! Tell me what I could actually use a Moto mc50 for? I want to buy one, but have no idea what I might use it for.

with most everything mobile running on Apple or Android, not much other than stuff designed for windows mobile 5. The newer scanners are still running Windows, but more are starting to run Android. I used this for scanning barcodes, hunting wifi hotspots, and reading RFID tags, all things I csn do on my Samsung Galaxy note 3. With Symbol being acquired by Motorola, and then Zebra, getting the software for these is near impossible now. The ham gear you hear is likely the police scanner, I have the local ham repeaters on it. If you want to get an MC series scanner, make sure it's got the stock software on it, namely the demo tools and it;s not locked. they are kind of fun.

yeah, this one scans 2D, but the MC50 came in several varieties, including one with a 1D scanner only, and one with only a camera. Then you have the one with a qwerty keypad, and the one (like mine) with just the 5 buttons on the bottom.

The credit card slider is an optional accessory, not all of them have it. Look on Ebay for MSR5000, you might find one on there. Also you can look for a new battery too. Will it not hold a charge at all?
