For trivia fans:
"Cut of the jib" was a nautical phrase. For starters, the "jib" sail is the forward sail on a ship, it's forward tack (corner) tied to the front of the bow, or the spar that extends forward from the from the bow, called a "bowsprit." It is generally triangular shaped. Way way way back in the day (17th century), countries used slightly different configurations and shapes, or "cuts," of their jib sails. From a distance the, "cut of the jib" could indicate if a ship was a friend or foe, based on the relationship with the country of the ship. Hence, "I like/don't like the cut of the jib," could translate to either, "We're fine..." or "Get prepared..."
When they started using the phrase about people, "jib," usually meant the shape of someone's face, particularly the proportion and shape of their nose and chin, in profile. Nowadays, it tends to refer more to someone's demeanor or personality, as opposed to specifically their look.

LOL, I AM a nerd. But I also used to sail boats when I was younger, so it's one of those stories you'd hear on the water when everyone would chill and wax historical on the nautical stuff. I'd kill on Jeopardy if they just had an episode of nautical history and terms, with all the useless info I have crammed in my dome.

last year at the DMC on hole 12 James conrad got into pretty much the same spot as gannon, lined up a FOREHAND of all things, and absolutely smashed the basket. one of the best shots ive ever seen in person
