  • Ingrown toenails can be extremely painful, especially for kids. Join Dr. Mikkel Jarman, a top pediatric foot and ankle specialist, as he walks us through a typical ingrown toenail removal procedure on a young patient.
In this educational video, we meet Ashton, an active boy struggling with an ingrown toenail. Dr. Jarman explains how issues like Ashton's uniquely curved toe can make ingrown toenails more likely. After a gentle anesthetic, Dr. Jarman skillfully removes the problematic part of the nail. He then uses cold spray and phenol to manage pain and discourage regrowth.
Throughout the procedure, Dr. Jarman moves with care and precision to minimize discomfort. His approach is intended to educate parents about the causes, treatment, and recovery process for ingrown toenails in children of all ages. From infants to teens, over 3 million people deal with this painful condition each year.
If your child is suffering from ingrown toenails, Dr. Jarman and his team at Pediatric Foot & Ankle are here to help. With compassion and expertise, they can get your kid back to playing pain-free.

I appreciate this video. My 9year old has the same issue. We just completed a 10 day round of antibiotic and the infection has gone down. We see a podiatrist 6/13 and this helps understand what to expect.

I have provided a link that may help you prevent recurring ingrowns. You mention the "whole" nail was cut. In our clinic, when indicated, we will remove the whole nail. I think that's what you are referring to. Factors that can contribute to an ingrown nail developing are improper toenail trimming, toe injuries, tight-fitting shoes, and of course genetics. Review the link and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for watching our video.
