People say those who can sing were blessed by God but when it comes to Miss Patti, I think God kissed her on her vocal chords just to demonstrate His power. If that performance does not touch you, something is WRONG with you.
first time I saw Patti LaBelle, she was still lead singer for LaBelle...saw them in 1974 or '75 in my hometown Washington, DC, during their Nightbirds tour. And for those of us who have seen her live, you just knew the first time you saw her, she was on her way to the 'big time'..you just KNEW IT. That concert changed something in me...the power of her voice, changed me...and made me a more confident person. Thats the only way I can explain it..there was no therapy for this gay man, who knew very early in my life, Id be gay until the day I died. Patti's voice, in so many words, told me "Come What May"...".I'll never be afraid of who I am, and who Im not". Fast forward to this performance, after seeing her live a number of times....and this is my favorite performance of her, hands down. It is more personal than her Live Aid set in 1985...and all the performances on the Johnny Carson Show and Arsenio Hall's show, were typically-awesome Patti, blowing the crowds away. But this one...for Frank..was breathtaking...because she sang it from the point of view of a black woman who was raised in segregation and can recount stories of what it was like for her and her bandmates, when they traveled the Deep South and "Middle America", during "Jim Crow'. The House I Live In, was a beautifully written song by Frank. But its meaning is far more powerful when it is sung by those who were maginalized and told that America's promise, excludes those of us with black and brown skin.
That's the way I saw this myself and Frank Sinatra himself received what she was actually interpreting to him and the audience so yes he received what she was saying and he stood up for standing ovation applauding her message because he received it I have cried many times from her singing this song
THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO SAID THAT THEY FLIPPED OVER THEIR COMPUTER DURING & AFTER WATCHING THESE PATTI PERFORMANCES!!! I BUSTED MINE!!!LOL DAMN!!!!! PATTI PROVED SHE'S RIGHTFULLY SELECTED FOR THIS TRIBUTE!!!! BRILLIANT!!!!
Nobody can touch her..she..ooo lawd. I was just havin a bad day and just looking at this performance did something to me. WoW...the passion, the strength..everytime she performs...what a gift...
Whenever I hear Ms. Patti sing I feel through my entire being... Like many of the previous posts stated, "... her voice is sooo powerful, there's no one like her.. " I can't help but to love her!!
I remember watching this the night it came on, and if I remember correctly, it was the only standing ovation that Mr. Sinatra gave that night. This is an absolutely stunning interpretation, and Mr. Ellison was WORKING that band and choir.
Don't you just love at the end of this she mouths "thank you jesus" you know it just her and him out there for the entire song........what a gift for all of us!
I GET TO UNDERSTAND THAT MS PATTI LABELLE GAVE THIS TRIBUTE TO FRANK SINATRA FOR HIS 80th BIRTHDAY & QUEEN PATTI LABELLE IS NOW 80yrs YOUNG HERSELF (May 24, 1944) 😊 R.I.P. FRANK!!😢 LONG LIVE ONE OF THE GREATEST MUSICAL GENIUSES OF THIS CENTURY, QUEEN PATTI LABELLE!!!❤❤❤
I gotta say that Patti LaBelle gives the best tributes... I have never seen any performer putting so much into a performance... No one like Patti... Now... Fantasia is a different story... She is a rising Patti...
Sinatra was rather hypnotized by this performance...I think it left sent him into a sort of trance until the end when he gave the standing ovation. He didn't recognize his own song.
So, what I like is the part when she starts to rev up, and the crowd knows it, around 36seconds. here the shout out? this the bomb for her, and she is at the absolute top of her form!
The show was a celebration of his 80th birthday. I think it was called 80 Years - His Way. Robert Wagner hosted, Hootie and the Blowfish did a number...some other folks did. But no one could touch Patti. The only Standing Ovation that the Sinatras gave that night was for Patti.
HAPPY 78th BIRTHDAY BELATEDLY (May 24, 2022) TO OUR WONDERFULLY OUTSTANDING INTERNATIONAL GOD MOTHER OF SOUL MISS PATTI LABELLE!🥰 MUCH LOVE 2 U MAMA P😍!👍
i have always loved this song; and i know it is a song of it's time (WWII). however, there's something so amazing about hearing ms. labelle sing it -- it brings an enhanced legitimacy, if you will, to the experience. i love frank's version and grew up with it. but i adore this version perhaps a bit more.
Since yesterday morning most every page on CZcams with "The Star-Spangled Banner" or "America the Beautiful" has become a message board of congratulations to your new President. Those songs are great indeed, but if there's an American song that really sends shivers down my spine it is this one. That's why I'd like to write my wellwishes here... Good luck, mr Obama, and good luck, all you Americans. May the future be at least half as bright as the expectations ...
Patti Labelle has the octave of just letting you know shes their. When she performs it is relaxing. She know she can change that voice from sounding like elmerfudge to a heavens angle which is a good thing. It sounds great. She sung it from 2:50 to 3:03 thats what i am talking about.
Look at Frank's face at 0:25 when patti sings a "certain...." He's in awe!! By the way Frank has always stood up for and helped blacks, including iconic heavyweight champion Joe Louis, the real first black president in the U.S.A.
She did this song twice for Frank. The one I remember is the one when Frank was in tears and came up on stage. Their was a video on here from back in the day when she did this song, that was the big hair days. Holla Back.....
Patti is just UNBELIEVABLE..everytime I hear her I'm still amazed at how someone's voice can be SO powerfull..did y'all hear that "OH NO" @ 2:50?? It just F'ing blows my mind of the force of her voice with what that note came through. The best ever. Forever.
Patti was asked to sing this song at Mr. Sinatra's birthday event because of her performance of this number eight years earlier on "We the People 200: The Constitutional Gala" celebrating the bicentennial of the American Constitution. The "We the People" version is a bit more energetic and shows more of her vocal abilities. Not to be missed!
Patti takes Franks song....totally dismantles it...then puts it back together again with a nice giant bow on it, and said, "Here you go, Frank." It's no wonder that Frank died not too long following this. After this performance....he had seen it ALL.
Patti could duplicate Franks vocal style if that is what she wanted. But that isn't her style. The woman is a rocket ship. She takes a song and puts it into orbit. The rest of us just sit back and marvel.
@BobsArtGallery i'm not fond of american politicians, either, but to say that they are ruled by the jewish lobby is not only untrue, but rather offensive.
@BobsArtGallery this song, written by a Jew, was written to oppose anti-Semitism and racial prejudice at the end of World War II. clearly, you need to listen to it a little bit more and maybe you'll overcome your prejudice.

No one does a live performance like LaBelle.

The undisputed queen of the live performance. talk about bringing down the house, she is the queen.
When I need to go to Church, I will go to youtube and find Patti!!! Praise GOD! Joyous Noise--Raise the house. More Patti for me.
The power of a dramatic soprano!!👏👏👏👏👏
I say this constantly #LoveSopranos
Nobody can touch her..she..ooo lawd. I was just havin a bad day and just looking at this performance did something to me. WoW...the passion, the strength..everytime she performs...what a gift...

Frank didn't know what to do with himself during this performance. One of television's greatest moments.
The show was over after this...even Frank had to stand. AMEN PATTI!
Honey this is what America Means to me,,Patti made me feel this song!
Whenever I hear Ms. Patti sing I feel through my entire being... Like many of the previous posts stated, "... her voice is sooo powerful, there's no one like her.. " I can't help but to love her!!

Wow!!!
Sinatra was rather hypnotized by this performance...I think it left sent him into a sort of trance until the end when he gave the standing ovation. He didn't recognize his own song.
Patti should have been asked to sing this song at the Lincoln Memorial for the "We Are One" concert during Inauguration weekend.
So, what I like is the part when she starts to rev up, and the crowd knows it, around 36seconds. here the shout out?
this the bomb for her, and she is at the absolute top of her form!
Pàttilabelle love you like you too live you too care about you miss you

That's the one I remember also. I've been searching for it but with no luck.

@mamas2hip ...I don´t know exactly what your message to me related to !??...my wife is a Russian jew !!
@BobsArtGallery i'm not fond of american politicians, either, but to say that they are ruled by the jewish lobby is not only untrue, but rather offensive.
now this is how you do a tribute... you come out and kill the song. Look out for fantasia tribute to Patti
@BobsArtGallery this song, written by a Jew, was written to oppose anti-Semitism and racial prejudice at the end of World War II. clearly, you need to listen to it a little bit more and maybe you'll overcome your prejudice.
She has a good technique but poor musicianship
Yeah, that's why musical success has alluded her for decades...the lack of musicianship she possesses. 😐
She just go with the flow
Are. You. A. Crack head.
Yeah 75 million records sold worldwide such a poor musicianship....
