    Man. The way these men died looked so scary. It saddens me so. The ground falling under them, hitting the ground or water hard. The heavy debris likely crushing them. Even if they survived the initial fall, the cars they were in would soon be submerged by the water. If they weren't unconscious or too injured to push the door open, they'd only to be greeted by cold water where help would be hours from arriving. They didn't deserve this.

    Why weren't these construction workers notified of the ship's Mayday warning? The police stopped all traffic from accessing the bridge, after the ship radioed in a Mayday warning, and traffic was quickly cleared from the bridge. Why were these workers not told to exit the bridge? They had plenty of time to do so, after the Mayday warning.

    • @777_ATM
      @777_ATM Před měsícem +23

      I agree. But if you listen to audio of dispatch between police. There was no rush/urgency to notify. I think it was believed that this was not going to cause the bridge to collapse.

    • @ItsUhPigeon
      @ItsUhPigeon Před měsícem +18

      Between the mayday and the collapse was 2 minutes. PD closed the bridge far from the center of the collapse. If you watch the video of the collapse, you see traffic going along and just over a minute later, no traffic. Just the workers already parked on the center of the bridge

    • @Shade04rek

      I think it's possible that some safety protocol negligence was going on just because this never happens, understandably. The day to day had people's guard down. I would hope now that communications will be more strict.

      @SL-zz7mg Před měsícem +6

      They were notified. Not only was there not enough time for them to get into their vehicles to move out of harm's way, but most obviously, if anyone on the ground during the moments of complete structural collapses could ever foresee the imminent tragedy, no one would ever die any time this occurs.

      If it weren't for the cops the casualty count would of been a lot higher. And do you know how difficult it is to find bodies if they are trapped under that amount of rubble? And assuming the bodies hadn't already been washed away by the rivers currents.

    • @Subcold
      @Subcold Před měsícem +3

      It’s extremely dangerous, imagine searching through the twin towers rubble, but in freezing water that’s moving with currents. I’m amazed they found the red pickup truck. I think they have to be very careful so no one else dies. It’s going to take some serious equipment to remove the debris, once they start doing that hopefully they will find the others. It is frustrating but for a recovery it’s a nightmare situation.

      @@MrGrumpyGills You don't tell me who to thank, sir! Just because you don't believe in the ONE and ONLY true God doesn't mean He doesn't exist and I will always thank Him. He didn't cause this accident and He may not always intervene, but for the simple fact more lives could have been lost, I thank my God. You are going to wish you thanked and knew God if you leave this world without Him. It is not too late. He loves you very much!
      John 3:16-19 kjv
      16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
      17. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
      18. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
      19. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

      That has been said on other platforms.
      My question?
      Why isn't there a law requiring that all warnings be conveyed simultaneously in every language that exists?
      I know that being able to hear one's own language from amidst such a warning might be tough at first, but eventually, I'm sure that some descendant of George Washington Carver could be given credit for coming up with a language isolator program that would allow everyone to set a 100%-manufactured-from-peanut-shells walkie talkie to his own language, so that we might all have an equal opportunity to survive any deadly situation.
      I mean.. Come on! Diversity is supposed to equal strength, which is why, by the way, I've already invented and patented the world's strongest bicycle chain, one that is comprised completely of different sized links. Sure, trying to come up with chainrings and a cassette that will work with such a chain is a tall order, but I have no doubt that we'll get 'er done eventually!
      Who knows? It might even be some non-aborted Latino kid whose parents snuck him into this country from south of the border in his mommy's tummy who will wind up solving the engineering problem that no Americans seem to want to help me with. Yeah.. I ended that sentence with a preposition, but who cares about the English langage when Merriam-Webster has already thrown in the towel, and when there is so much more to do?

    My heart goes out to the families impacted by the recent tragic event. Losing loved ones in such a devastating way is unimaginable. I pray the children left behind can find peace and healing, though the road ahead will be difficult. In times of tragedy, we need to come together with compassion rather than judgment. While passionate beliefs are understandable, this is a moment to mourn those who lost their life and support the grieving families, not cast insensitive aspersions, but for now, focusing on the humanity we all share seems most appropriate. Those who died were individuals whose lives mattered deeply to those who loved them.

      Had same question initially and now speculate they were but too late. Seems only LT 5m from initial alert (ship disabled, close highway) to impact. That alert had to be separately conveyed to construction crew (slight delay). Video shows crew vehicles start-up (lights on when previously dark) but at that moment bridge collapsed.
      Key question is why wasn’t such an essential 50yo bridge retrofitted to today’s construction standards by simply placing barrier islands at base of vertical supports so any wayward ship would run aground? The daily loss in commerce & wages ($8M) is many times the preventative project cost…. not to mention the $1-2B bridge replacement cost.

      NTSB should make changes when vessels and / or boats experience problems a radius amount of distance to sound the alarm, and bridges have red lights flashing to warn vehicles that there's an imminent impact ahead. Immediately when the boat motor had shut off, it should have sounded the alarm. This vessel also shouldn't have left the port knowing that prior, they were having difficulty when they confirmed a lady who said that the pier kept getting their electric cut off when they struggled to get it running many times. At this point, why would you think you'll be fine and not think it wouldn't shut off down miles away and be stuck.

    May God comfort all of the bereaved families and encourage those who must find an alternate route during the cleanup and bridge reconstruction phase. What a solemn reminder of how important it is to live each day to it's fullest. I thank God for search and rescue workers and pray for their physical, mental and emotional well being.

    There was enough time to block both ends of the bridge but no time to radio to the men on it? Guess the city didn't care enough.

    Soon as I heard my mind went back to the lost sub and the pain of waiting and hoping for the best. In some ways I am glad some families have closure, but sad for those who don't. To the men I know they were afraid and pray they didnt suffer. Can't imagine such a nightmare coming unexpectedly. Especially of this magnitude. Not very familiar with this bridge or city but also hope those who needed this bridge daily will have alternative ways to get around.
    Seeing the bridge fall made me imagine the nation in general. It looks strong but very vulnerable.

    They need to build an underground infrastructure that they can control to stop ships before reaching the bridge. People need to brainstorm solutions to possible problems so this doesn’t happen again.
