    Storm Sorcery is probably one of the most slept on subclasses for Sorcerer alongside the Tempest Domain Cleric. Combining both results in some amazing destruction. We'll go over that in STORM LORD BUILD (Sorcerer/Cleric) for Baldur's Gate 3! We'll go over the entire build starting with Character Creation then touch on the progression for this class in BG3. Closing the video out we'll talk about the Best Storm Lord Feats, Storm Lord Weapons, and Storm Lord Armor & Gear

    I believe by going sorcerer, you get proficiency in constitution saving throws, which means it's essentially redundant to pick resilient as a feat. It's like getting resilient for free, which is nice because then you can focus on getting something else for your two feats

      There's a bit of a problem with BG3's multiclassing system with taking Sorcerer first for a primarily Sorcerer build like this.
      In BG3, the spell casting modifier used for items that call for it, uses the last added casting class for it. Which means that if you do go Sorcerer for that first class but end up with say Wizard, your spell modifier for items will be on Intelligence rather than on your Charisma. If that is important for your playthrough, then this needs to be thought about.
      As for Resilient (Constitution) vs War Caster, which I see other people mentioning in the replies: the one that is better does depend. Generally, if the Con improvement gets you to an even number like 16, then it will be better at higher levels than War Caster's advantage as far as the math is concerned. Below that, War Caster is technically better, but Resilient is not too far behind. Combine it with the increase to overall Con Saves which aren't too uncommon, as well as the buff to HP, and I would say Resilient (Con) is the better choice most of the time.

    This is the build I'm using now! Fun to see your take on it.
    I like the Wood Elf Charlatan for race and background. That gets you Stealth, Perception, Sleight of Hand, and Deception before you even touch your classes.
    I also like, for RP purposes, to do 1 level of Cleric, then 1 level Sorcerer, and finally 1 level Wizard before cycling around. That way you get all of your cantrips when you're still low enough level for it to matter, and your ability to maximize damage comes on line just as you'll be getting your first Lightning or Glyph of Warding scrolls.
    Biggest problem is that the stats will never be enough to cover everything. You end up gear dependent no matter what.

    35:15 Haven't seen anyone mention it while skimming the comments, so I am going to: In the Tabletop you can also cast in heavy armor. The restriction is that you have to be proficient with the armor you wear in order to be able to cast spells. Tempest Cleric gives you proficiency in heavy armor (in adition to the light and medium armor that all clerics get proficiency in).

    • @murphieslaw6932
      @murphieslaw6932 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Exactly that. Why would you be able to cast in medium armour but not in heavy ? Dude is very biased and uninformed sometimes +sigh+
      The game doesn´t give a shit about your class - you just need to have the proficiency to cast while wearing it, STAT.
      Paladin spells or cleric spells are no different from sorcerer or wizzard spells or anythign else - you get the malus while wearing armour UNTRAINED, no matter where you get the training from (class, dual class, feat choice, magic ring, whatever) once you have it you can litterally cast anything you want while wearing it. And YES heavy armour is great for casters, so you don´t have to waste attribute points on Dex that should go into your main stats or Con to be better at concentration an/or surviving hits when they happen.

Most builds I see feature 8-10 Sorcerer levels and 2-4 Cleric levels. I actually felt going 6/6 between them to be incredibly powerful. Cleric level 6 knock back is actually very useful from my experience. Debuff everyone with reverberation, disable reactions and massive area of effect knockback and some of the most impressive damage I've seen besides Paladin when you upcast a lightning spell on a wet target.

    There's a massive issue with taking Sorcerer levels first. The Spell Save DC from items and scrolls are calculated using the last NEW class you took a level in, not your highest level class.
    What this means is that if you take Sorcerer first, followed by Cleric, then followed by Wizard all the spells you cast from scrolls or items (The staff that lets you cast Lightning Storm falls under this category) will be cast using your intelligence to calculate DC so enemies will constantly be saving their saving throw checks.
    That being said I think it makes most sense to take Sorcerer last. You really want to be taking advantage of that high charisma for all of your spell DC calculations. Level up whichever way feels best for you but I would highly recommend releveling around level 7 and going 2 Cleric, 1 Wizard and then Sorcerer until level 12.
    It seems counterintuitive but this is the only way to ensure that every spell you cast will use Charisma as the Spell Save DC.

    • @chrisperez9741
      @chrisperez9741 Před 5 měsíci

      This is what I’ve read, but can’t confirm if it’s a display bug and using most recent spell modifier/DC calculating correctly in the log or if it’s really the last new class modifier that determines the spell DC.
      If it’s is indeed the last NEW class, what leveling order do you recommend? I want to start Sorcerer for early level game play (CHA face skills). When do you respec to end with sorcerer or follow the above leveling, but respec abilities and end as an INT caster?

    • @devonjoseph8753
      @devonjoseph8753 Před 5 měsíci +4

      So I leveled 1-6 as a Sorcerer. Upon reaching level 6 I releveled starting as Cleric for 1 level, then 5 levels of Sorcerer for Lightning Bolt. 7th level I took my second and final level in Cleric for Channel Oath. At which point the combo really comes online and I continued to level as sorcerer for the remaining levels.
      Once you're level 8 or 9 you can go 1-2 Cleric, 3 Wizard, 4-12 Sorcerer if you value the ability to learn spells from scrolls. Just make sure the spells you learn from Wizard aren't spells that require saving throws because they will use your wizard DC. I prioritize buff spells or environmental spells for any spells learned from scrolls.
      If you take the Cleric first route to guarantee your Sorcerer spells are using charisma to calculate DC I start with 15 Constitution so I can take Resilient Con at Sorcerer level 4 since I really value Con saves. You could take any feat you'd like though if you have even Con and don't mind not having Con saving throws. (alert is an amazing feat alternative)

      @common_undead Před 7 měsíci

      @@mathieuxlaflamme2322 For spells it depends on which class's spell list it's from. If I have a paladin cleric multiclass and both of them have access to command, I can choose whether to set the DC for the command spell through CHA or through WIS. If I'm playing a 10 wiz/2 cleric and want to use command form the cleric spell list (wizards don't have this spell), then I can only use WIS for my spellcasting for that spell. It also wouldn't make sense otherwise, since I could take 11 levels in cleric, then 1 level in wizard and scribe all the wizard spells which clerics don't get access to and cast them using wisdom just as effectively as a proper wizard would.

    Doing a 6 + 6 split between cleric and sorcerer looks like it would be pretty good. Gives you access to all the good lightning spells (even chain lightning via Markoheshkir) and if you have a party member with song of rest you would get 8 uses of destructive wrath per long rest.

    • @NILOCOgov
      @NILOCOgov Před 3 měsíci

      I guess you'd have to choose between call lightning and lightning bolt/witch bolt as your main damage dealer because of the different casting stat, but by the time you're high enough level to use all of them gear can fix that problem.

  • @fortunatus1
    @fortunatus1 Před 7 měsíci +5

    Currently doing a similar build with High Elf. While Dragonborn is thematic, its not a great species overall. Your resistance to lightning becomes duplicative once you're Sorc level 6 and you don't gain an extra skill or cantrip. While Lightning breath is nice, I can take it or leave it. More importantly, I think its a mistake to start with Cleric. Starting with Sorcerer is better because you gain proficiency in Constitution saving throws, which is important for Concentration checks. It also avoids any problem with Firebolt for High Elf characters. Destructive Wrath doesn't really come into play in a big way until you gain 5 or 6 levels of Sorc and can cast Lightning Bolt and Call Lightning. Also, you want to start with a Cha 17 so that when you spare Auntie Ethel's life, you gain the +1 to Cha. Then choose Ability Score Improvement for your level 4 feat and you're at 20 Charisma very early in the game. I'd drop Intelligence down to 10 to make this happen and then just use the Headband of Intellect as a default head piece switching it out before combats for something more useful like the Hat of Storm Scion's Power (Arcane Acuity). EDIT: For Cleric spells, Create Water is a must have because the wet condition gives vulnerability to Lightning damage.

    • @fortunatus1
      @fortunatus1 Před 7 měsíci +3

      Back to Race, the movement bonus of Wood Elf is much less important for the Storm Sorcerer because you have Tempestuous Flight, Misty Step, Dimension Door and scrolls of MS and DD, as well as spells that can be cast at long range. IMO High Elf is better.
      Edit: For the second feat, Dual Wielder is a strong option because you can gain the benefits of 2 staves as well as a +1 to Armor Class.

      If anyone's reading this and wondering why it's often advised to go tempest cleric 2 followed by 10 in sorc, it's because any 2/10 split will have to rely on items to cast Chain Lightning. If you're casting a spell with an item, the attack rolls and DC of that spell is based on the spellcasting stat of the last spellcasting class that you took a first level in. So if you go sorc first and cleric later, all of your Chain Lightning casts from, say, Markoheshkir or Scroll of Chain Lighting will use your comparatively crappy WIS modifier instead of your pumped CHA for attack rolls and DCs. Even going 1 Sorc / 2 Cleric / 9 Sorc will not fix this because Cleric was the last spellcasting class that you took a first level in.

    I would say Elf/Half Elf are great choices since you can start the game with the “Friends” cantrip. Human is by far the best pick since they have access to Shields. Dragon born is next best pick since they have natural lighting resistance and gain access to lighting abilities. Although you can find a ring that grants lighting immunity early game.
    Drow and Teiflings are better pick for warlocks since they have access to “Devils Sight”. Darkness is a detriment to your casting unless you have this perk. Gith is also a good pick for a Warlock/Sorcerer or Paladin build since they have Medium armor and the legendary Silver sword.

Using the free cast glitch u should be able to get infinite sorcerer points and 4-7 up to 16 channel divinities using this can u haste and double spells? Getting tons of glyphs of warding, lightning or thunder but lightnings better cuz of water vulnerability. something I dont think he mentioned that you can do is take the dual wielder feat, then you can dual wield staves instead of staff and shield. I use Markoheshkir and the staff of spellpower, which will give you an extra spell slot of any level instead of just a first level slot like the shield does. you will lose an extra 2 AC but that's not a bad trade for an extra 5th or 6th level slot.
    Also, there's a very rare amulet that you get from a church in the lower city in act 3 that gives you +2 spell save DC, as well as an extra use of channel divinity per short rest which means you can use destructive wrath twice per short rest instead of once, and 6 times per long rest instead of 3 (assuming you have a bard w/ song of rest) and you can just swap to the spellcrux amulet whenever you need to restore a spell slot, then take it off again

    Question about war caster vs constitution proficiency. The way I read the rules, proficiency in a stat gives a +2 on a saving throw. War caster "advantage" indicates that you roll 2 dice and take the higher. That should mean that proficiency and war caster would stack nicely -- rolling two dice at +2. In which case, if you ever have a class completely reliant on concentration, like a druid, you could REALLY keep concentration with those 2 feats together.

    • @CreativeExcusesGaming

      Proficiency in a stat gives a bonus on the saving throw which scales with character level. So at level 1, it's +2, by end game, it's +4.
      imo, taking both con proficiency and war caster isn't worth it since you're burning 2 feats to maintain concentration, one of which could be used for ASI or elemental dept or spell sniper, etc. If you could only take one, pick con proficiency, since +4 by end game is better than advantage statistically, and there's plenty of gear which gives you advantage on con saves.
