Today, after watching all your wonderful demos, I took myself off with my new easel to the Jurassic coast in the UK (only 40 mins from where I live) and painted my first coastal scene. It was a beautiful day, I chose a wonderful spot and soon overcame my nerves.
The cliffs are dramatic, white against red, the sand a rich colour against a turquoise sea. The colours of the cliffs kept changing from white to purple in shadow. Very challenging but my painting looked so very different from the one I did in my Studio. So much better! Altogether a wonderful experience so thanks a lot for your invaluable contribution.
Love this latest painting too.
That’s wonderful! Congrats for getting out there and doing it. I looked up pics of the Jurassic Coast online and it looks amazing. I’d love to paint there someday. Keep going! 😊👍
I like the longer format!
definitely not me !
I like square formats, especially for this kind of subjects: a square format seems more ... meditative.
(see many paintings by Monet in that genre)
Petrecca W i was talking about the longer videos!
dont know if you guys gives a damn but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch all of the new movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my gf during the lockdown :)
@Jaime Richard yea, I have been watching on InstaFlixxer for months myself =)
Like the longer videos of you and buddies painting! You really know how to simplify rocks-I struggle with them ALLthe time. Thanks so much for sharing your plein air painting (and your studio one on simplifying cars was great too).
i watch your videos everyday and i’ve seen most of them more than once. you inspire me so so much and make me want to experiment with plein air, alla prima, different techniques and styles. thank you so much for everything you do and being an incredible guide for me
I’m so glad! 😊
outside?
Me, too! What he said!
Loved the intro! The piece turned out absolutely beautiful as well!
Thanks! 😊
Michael, this looked difficult to paint, so many rocks an cliffs, but as usual you nailed it. I used to get a take out lunch and go there and eat. Still the same misty, foggy beautiful place, but chilly even in summer. Tallahassee ,Florida
Thanks Barbara Joan! It’s such a beautiful spot. 😊
Been watching your videos for that past few days and they are really inspiring to watch!
😊
MICHAEL. - I think it’s wonderful, great capturing of rock & sea merging over eons. I see the napping fox, a snake about to bite , and, a most weary hunting dog , perhaps leader of the pack who has braved and encountered the Bear the hunters were after, ( bear got away ), haven’t looked really that long at it, I do so love your paintings. ; )
haha, I saw the napping fox as well
Your art is very beautiful! It was very nice to see you painting in front of a beach very relaxing and pretty.
I wish I could paint under your supervision. Your paintings blow my mind off. Beautiful
Thanks! So glad you like my work!
Hands down, the best painting vids on the 'tube. Love it, Michael!
Thanks! 😊
hiii i really looove your paintings and you inspire me sooo much!!!
i love you are videos
I love your painting !
So good. Wave/water/ocean tutorials welcome!!!! 🌊🌊🌊
Thanks! 😊
If you try to get your focal point to land on a golden mean intersection it will strengthen your paintings. The reason has to do with neurological branching and it’s commonality with nature. The lower blue green pool as it meets the purple, that edge where it meets the rocks is where I would almost expect to see your focal point, though you can make it anywhere you desire.
So inspiring! Now I feel the urge to get out and paint on plain air...need to do this definitely as long as it is still warm :-)))
Yes! 😊👍
Love the location. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I love the way your scrub ins are loose and fluid. They could be watercolors.
Awesome painting and editing! I miss the green on the mountains in the finished piece tho
thanks. really helped me trying to do it myself now !
Love watching your videos.
I just came home from the beach, and nothing better than a good coffee and some coastal Chamberlain painting to continue on the same vibe...beautiful painting as usual. I dont get the weather though...it's summer but you've got a hoodie and a coat and Im almost naked and sunburned in here. That pacific ocean is something else right?
Thanks Martin! I need to visit the Mediterranean in the summer! Yes, the Pacific Ocean is always cold, even in summer, so the weather is usually cool. Good for painting though! I get so exhausted trying to paint on a hot day.
chamberlainpaintings Remember that if you come here you are my guest at least in terms of guiding you to places an inviting you with a good local dish and the best wines in the world. But I know you tend to be a solitary free man so I won't bother you much hahah.
@@martingimenez339 haha, ok sounds perfect 👍
Great job with this. Well balanced. I like the feel it has with the deep brown rocks.
Thanks!
Loved your intro Michael! This is beautiful! I did a nocturnal PleinAir last night! I need the little square.
Thanks! I haven’t tried a nocturnal yet. Could make for a good video 😊
chamberlainpaintings I’ll send you a picture. Let me know what think!
@@kimlanoue2033 Yes!
This is really inspiring. I love art and it's basically my stress reliever.
Another terrific video, Mike! (I’m the last person to find this out 😂). Really nice painting too! Count me in for a coastal outing...That’s a great spot with lots of different views and possibilities.
Thanks Bruce! Ok cool, I’ll get back to you with possible date/times 😊👍
What a beautiful painting! Great work
Thanks!
love this !
Another amazing Video.! 😍❤️Thank you.
Thanks!
You're so insanely talented!!
Thanks 😊
I like the coast there, It looks good to paint. You would make a good art teacher I think Mike 🎨👍
Thanks Tez!
Gotta say, the look at around minute 15 was best!
Ok I’ll take a look. 👍
💖💖💖
I have a question, i see so many art videos on CZcams start with making a drink etc, is this to make it more personal or some type of subliminal message to make a drink and sit down and watch the video haha. Another great inspiring video.
Interesting! I started including some of the prepainting ritual after watching Ben Gravy surfing videos. I don't actually watch art videos, other than painting compilations. Glad you liked this one!
👍👍👍
Hi! What is the best time you recommend for someone to start painting outdoors? Thanks! And have been binge watching your vids for the past 3 hours. I love your content and find it extremely helpful as I'm learning how to paint outdoors.
that's really good
Great video, thanks. I wish you were my teacher!
Thanks! I do my best to share all I know in my videos. Let me know if there's a topic you'd like me to cover. 😊
so much Love from Saudi Arabia 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
😊💛
WOW 😍 New Subscriber ! keep it up !
Hi Michael did you darken the bottom area as a compositional aid to prevent the eye slipping off the bottom of the painting - thank you
It’s been a while since making this video, but if I remember correctly I darkened that area so the eye wouldn’t be draw to it.
@@chamberlainpaintings thanks Michael
matching paints from life to a white canvas may be the reason why color seems too dark.. puting color on a white canvas may make any color seem darker....the contrast.
Maybe mark would be a lot more comfortable if he had a much taller tri pod. I felt bad he was bending over to get to his paints.
I asked him how he liked his easel and he said he loved it 😊👍
If mark pleinair paints regularly-2-3week- his back is going to start hurting!!
Me encanta cómo pintas al aire libre. Una pregunta: ¿Cómo puedo obtener una pala portátil como la suya? Gracias y felicidades por tu trabajo.
I love the way you paint. One question: How can I get a portable paddle like yours. Thank you and congratulations on your work.
Thanks! I made my palette box, but you can buy them at artboxandpanel.com 😊
Just arrived
Welcome to the party
Is this near Monterey California?
About two hours north of Monterey
Mark's background shapes should be much smaller..perspective!!!
Reee
It kind of pains me to see you put in so many small lines on your canvas-and taking the time to do it. That's just me, I guess. A few lines and then get out the one or two-incher, or just use the one incher to do the initial drawing. Block it in fast. You're going to end up painting over all the little lines anyway. OK, that's just me. See-I had to complain about something today.
Haha, it's ok if you want to vent in my comment section. I'm just doing what works for me. This painting was done very quickly and I'm happy with the results. I find that the little details in the rock shapes really add interest to the final product. The little lines are all part of the seeing process. I'm looking carefully and familiarizing myself with the subject.
@@chamberlainpaintings All is OK. You're doing fine my friend. I grew up in the Santa Clara valley and my Grandma lived in Aptos. We'd be over there all the time. Mitchell's Cove Beach is named after my Dad's cousin, since my great grandfather retired there in the teens of the last century. He was a union organizer and newspaper man in San Francisco (Olaf Tweitmoe). In 1910 he was accused of blowing up the LA Times building. Haha. His friend Clearance Darrow came to his defense, but had to be recused because of jury tampering. Anyway, it would be fun to get over there and paint with you one of these days. I love and miss the coast. I live in Chico near Paradise, CA which burned down in 2018. Hope they get the fires over there near Santa Cruz in control.
