Hey Colleen, I literally feel your pain. I'm a super sensitive person that literally feels other people's pain, or whatever they are going through. It can definitely be hard because I have my own from time to time, life happens right??
I'm going through it today as well. I'm so missing my Mom who passed away. Although it's been years now , her presence is still missed. I wish I could talk with her. Sorry, I wasn't trying to make this about me, just was letting you know that you aren't alone. Thank you so much for not being afraid to be vulnerable and transparent with your community. Hi Colleen, thank you for sharing your honesty and openness. It sounds to me like you are running on empty, Hon. This is exactly how I feel when I have given, given, given and I have nothing left to give to myself. The way I cope with these moments is I create a comfort space for myself; I check out of my responsibilities and turn inward, I rest, sleep, lounge, go for a walk, buy some expensive coffee, watch Scooby-Doo (I am 51 and Scooby-Doo is the truth for me in these moments!) and I go into self-care mode. This is a time for the world to spin on by itself while I do what I need to do to get through this funk - and it is absolutely ok and healthy to give this moment to yourself. I am sending you a big hug from UK xxxx

Hi Colleen! I’m currently loc’d. I have been so for 3 years in September. I have medium sized locs. The determining factor was the strength of my hair and the ability to do my own retwists. I didn’t want to HAVE to go to anyone to get maintenance. It’s gets expensive! I wanted micro, but the installation, in addition to the yearly cost for maintenance was a hell no for me! But they are beautiful. Im a person who wouldn’t be caught dead without my wig/weave a couple of years ago. I hadn’t seen my hair in over 5 years at one point. It was take down, salon, take down, salon. My hair was dead from neglect. I cut it all off! Most freeing thing I’ve ever done! I felt like I was releasing myself from bondage. It’s been a journey of loving of myself and everything that I’ve been through without the mask that we wear. I 100% advise anyone with similar feelings to at least research. My whole family is loc’d now! The first year you look crazy!! But you learn to love yourself more!! And when that growth hits! Yum! ❤ Good luck!!

Thank you for being vulnerable. We love that over here. 😊 Stay focused on your process, but take it easy and do what feels good. Those feelings coming up (the deeper, more subconscious layers) cannot be soothed with conscious thoughts (I’m favorited by God). And that’s ok. Feel and flow. Being able to perceive/access your deeper feelings is evidence that you’re moving the right direction, not the reverse. When we shed weight, we shed weight on all layers beyond the physical. Unearthing the deeper layers of our beings is a good sign, love. 😉❤️

Yes girl! Start your locs you won’t regret it. I’ve been loc’d for 10 years and my locs are butt length. I wanted locs for years while I was a loose natural but I thought my hair was too thin and I didn’t want my hair and scalp to look spacey. Once I got pregnant with my son, my hair thickened so I locked my hair. Best. Decision. Everrrrr! I’m lazy when it comes to hair but my locs always look good lol. When I want short hair I do a loc knot bob and when I take it down it’s curly. I think you would look STUNNING with locs. Your loc crush’s hair is DIVINE ❤️

have you ever read the book fast like a girl? The author takes women's hormonal cycles into account for fasting regimens. Thank you so much for allowing yourself to be vulnerable with us. I find it so admiral and to me it's such an honor ❤️. You will be ok. You have all the ingredients and skills you need to make it to ShangriLa. It's right around the corner for you. As for locs, I wish I had done mine sooner. I even loved them in the infant stage. They are soooo much easier than loose hair and they always look good. And I can color my hair without it all falling out! I've had mine for 2 years in August and I'm so in love. As a natural hair stylist, I would recommend considering regular locs instead of micro. Regular size ones are easy and can be very affordable. Sisterlocs and micro locs on the other hand are higher maintenance, more time consuming, and more expensive. You can also have a hard time finding people to do them. But that's just my opinion and something to think about.

Just do it! I always said when I got to 30 I will loc-up. 30 came around and 3 months later I was loc’d! What I would say is I wish I started sooner! I thought I would have to wear a wig through the “ugly phase” but there honestly is no ugly phase as they are so versatile and easy to style! I too was stuck between micro and sister, however my partner has sister locks which he gets re-tied every 8 weeks and they never seems to stay neat for that long and his re-tie is between 3-5 hours. My re-tie however is never longer than an hour and a half and my hair stays much neater than his! Honestly the best decision waking up shaking and going! Love your channel Colleen you are so honest with us. It’s so funny when I’m slacking with my fasting journey I have to avoid your videos from sheer guilt! Not sure why when you teach nothing but to be kind to yourself and to refocus and try again!

Easy to maintain and as the year goes buy your hair is only gonna be long and beautiful as well as versatile. I also started with my hair texalaxed and cut short (cuz I had a mental breakdown before lool) my hair also shed a lot and I have low density hair, so this was the best option for me. My hair has now gotten thicker since locs "swell" and the new growth makes it a lot healthy looking (I plan to cut the relaxed/texalaxed ends in a few yrs once my hair grows longer)

Good day Colleen, Thank for shearing. As one young commented when interviewed -all of are missing something.
At times a feeling of hurt not knowing where its coming from. From youth (even in the womb) we exspiriance things and situations -we have the feeling/emotions (trauma) but not the pictures. Causing us to ask where are these feelings coming from. They pop up unannounced.
Example, think of a baby that can't talk. It crys because it needs something -it crys as long as it can. What happens to this feelings if no one shows up? There are internationalized.

I mean they’re pretty and easy up keep, can’t beat that lol I’m excited for you! Keep your healthy diet and focus on having a healthy scalp and they will flourish 🫶🏾

I started my locs almost 10 years ago when my son was about 2. It was for similar reasons you mentioned. As a single mom with a lot going, it just made sense to have one thing basically already done. I started with traditional sized ones and I had about 120. Chose that because I wanted to be able to maintain them myself and that seemed manageable. I’ve combined them over time though to about 69 cause I really like a thicker look and they’re way easier to maintain myself.
Wish you all the luck on your loc journey. Can’t wait to watch if you choose to share. They’ll look great on you whatever you decide on size wise.
Also, I appreciate the vulnerability and transparency on here. I know it’s easy but it really helps people not feel so alone. Hope you start feeling better soon though. ❤

I’m not sure how long you have been coparenting but initially for me it was terrible. Overtime it got better and we coparent perfectly now. This too shall pass as you stated! A good motivational book to read is The Four Agreements. It helped me a lot during my separation/divorce. I hope this helps 💕.

My friend kept putting off getting sister locs...hated having to decide what do with her hair and finally just pulled the trigger a few years ago. She started off with sister loc extensions and halfway thru her appt she said, "THIS WAS THE BEST DECISION EVER" #justdoitgurl

Get locd! I started in 2020. I have regular size, 89 locs and it’s about collarbone length. The sooner the better! But understand your locs will not look like anyone else’s. That’s were I struggled at.

Your workout outfit is really cute! Yesterday, I thought I might abandon the ADF regimen. I was feeling deprived but I had committed to ADF for the months of May and June. I ended up having 1/6 of an avocado and 1/4 slice of cheese at bedtime. At least I didn't go to bed in fetal position. hahah... I am considering OMAD starting in July. Oh, and my labs came back so much better after only a month and a half on ADF, thanks to you! ♥

I haven't had a relaxer since November 2022 and cut off all my relaxed ends in March of this year to grow my natural hair out for micro/ sisterlocs. Haven't decided on which yet tho 🤔. And yes Marshall's and TJ Maxx are my in person Amazon stores 😆.
Thanks for sharing your ups and downs with us. As another early thirties girly, I enjoy seeing us grow through life. ❤

I began my loc journey 14years ago in October. I am happy I did it. I made the transition from natural to locs because of maintenance. I absolutely despise doing and even getting my hair done so it allows me to love my hair with little hair care routine. I have fairly larger locs because if shedding or thinning begins my locs won’t fall out. I did join a few due to thinning but they are much healthier. I cut them from being at my bottom to my shoulders because of back and neck problems. They were entirely too heavy. So consider the thickness of your hair and hair health history to determine your size. Locs are very forgiving and helps he document where I was and am in life each curl or uneven loc! ❤ Much love to you on this journey of life. We all just tryna figure it out 1 day and breath at a time. 🙏🏽🥹💐🥰
