    The Skull & Roses (Skullfuck) album guitar; hands down/bar none the best tone Garcia ever had. That bridge pickup...! Only Europe '72 with the Alligator Strat comes close, although the '50's Strat he played at Veneta in '72 was another magic axe. Never understood why he played all the Irwin guitars when they sounded like he was on the Strat middle pickup most of the time (but not as good as a regular Strat). Opinions only... :)

    Ive got a Celestion G12h Heritage 55hz in mine, very efficient and amazing sound. Mine is a 68 but its still a BF

      I have a 68 Ri as well, changing speaker cable and changing the Celestion G10R-30 for a 12 first, not sure the brand yet tho, I looked for the same JBL speaker that's in the Super Bear but they wanted around 3-400. Hopefully I find someone near Pennsylvania that can help mod mine out and find a great speaker to put in it.

      @@Guitar_Romantic_L.A.M.F Mine is not a reissue, when I got it the baffle was already cut for a 12 and recovered with black cloth, I bought some nice plywood and repo cloth and even recreated the drip edge but made it a 12" cut out, the Celestion G12h Heritage 55hz is the best recent production speaker made imo

      @@shckltnebay around there on the silver face models it starts to break up, definitely like putting a overdrive on but better. I guess on the blackface models it has to go a little higher before that.

      @@Guitar_Romantic_L.A.M.F On the BF RI its not really breaking up at 5 but a big vol jump then starts to break up 6 and up, on my real 68 doesnt break up till about 7 and its pretty loud at that point with the G12h

    Sounds great, sounds bigger like a super. Why is a flat response desirable, I mean it sounds like what I imagine Garcia sounded like but why is it important?

    • @georgestevens1502
      @georgestevens1502 Před rokem +2

      Maybe the bottom end tone. I've always thought Jerry had a singular bottom end tone where he could emphasize single note walk ups or walk downs to a chord change. Heard a bit of that tone here albeit without any of Jerry's signature single note lines.

    Anyone know specs/details on these mods? Similar to what JG did on his Twins?

    I have a Deluxe Reverb RI with a G12H and a Frommel Mod kit Sounds devine. I will put a 1Meg vol pot in mine to give more head room. I heard the Princeton DR and Twin share the same tone circuit.

      @elizab1028 Před 18 dny

      A Princeton, and all the fender blackface amps, and silverface amps, already have a 1Megohm volume pot. Princeton has a fixed-mids resistor (6.8k) whereas a twin has a 10K mid-range pot. Other than that, the tonestacks are identical.

    Contrary to what was said about the speaker; a more powerful speaker has no effect on the amps output. It may be louder, but the amp puts out the same wattage(power).

    • @roderickbalt8993
      @roderickbalt8993 Před rokem +2

      I don't think he said it like that he said the effect of changing to that speaker was the equivalent of doubling the power.

    • @andrewp.4059
      @andrewp.4059 Před rokem +5

      Contrary to what you said, Rick states the JBL "is the equivalent of more than doubling the power" which is accurate. Whether you double the watts, or add 3dB of efficiency to a speaker, you are moving twice as much air. Period.

    • @elizab1028
      @elizab1028 Před 18 dny

      @@andrewp.4059 Yup, a speaker with a higher wattage rating may or may not not increase the volume-. It is the efficiency of the speaker that will determine the output volume.
