Here are a few more reasons to walk that I forgot to include in the video:
    16. Lose weight and burn calories
    17. Improve immunity and fight infections
    18. Lower blood pressure
    19. Lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol
Maybe I'll remember more reasons later, and I'll keep posting here.

Dr. Furlan I should mention that in January '21, my PCP recommended after seeing my blood work, that I start medicine to lower my cholesterol and my A1C. i changed my diet drastically, increased the distance I was walking. I lost 45 lbs this yr, and I'm maintaining my weight. My blood numbers are now well within the normal level. I had the flu just prior to March '20, and haven't been sick since. I mask religiously, and maintain distance. Walking works in every way your video and pinned comment stated. I'm living proof.

Thank you very much Dr Andrea Furlan. A yr ago I slid in our driveway and went onyo therapy with a PT. After 3 months, I regained my mobility. Unfortunately, while taking care of pur pets onthe same driveway, I sneezed and felt the gains I had fly away. NOW a yr later, I am regaining my strength and mobility by prayer and sheer willpower (I am a retired pastor and 73 y.o. with HBO and borderline glucose). I follow your postings regularly. God bless and MERRY Christmas!

This just reminds me of exactly how lucky I am to have somewhere great to walk! Where I live in the UK I have somewhere very similar to where you’re walking in this presentation, it’s so calming and relaxing.
I have Fibromyalgia/Myofascial pain syndrome so really appreciate the benefits of walking, the only problem I have is when it’s really cold it’s not easy, my body doesn’t like it even if I wrap up. That said I just go out and do it because I know that if I don’t I will begin to feel not so good!
Thank you for your videos, they are very useful and informative!

Great video Dr Furlan. That is a beautiful trail to walk. I have degenerative disc disease, and deal with chronic pain. I walk 3-4 miles every day, and feel worse, and have increased back pain if I miss my walk. I had double hernia surgery in Sept, in the morning, and walked 2 miles in small increments the rest of the day. I didn't require any prescription painkillers while healing from the surgery. I'm almost 61.

A really helpful video Dr Furlan. My husband and I had already had a lovely walk today, he has arthritis and stenosis of the spine and walk every day for at least 3/4 of an hour, but we thoroughly enjoyed yours and the sights you saw. I would imagine that would be really lovely to walk there in the spring and summer because of the birds and the leaves breaking, and above all your stream! Wonderful, and thank you so very much indeed.

I agree with our point about walking being a method of meditation. Relaxation of mind, due to increased secretion of Serotonin, would help achieve it. One of our modern Indian saints, Shri Aurobindo of Pondichery, used to meditate while walking.
Walking is also a good exercise for the cardiovascular system, partly due to its blood glucose & bad cholesterol lowering & good cholesterol boosting effects, partly due to its stress reducing effects, & partly due its effect of boosting the development of collateral vessels in the coronary arteries through angiogenesis triggered by increased demand for oxygen.

Thank you for the great information you are sharing with us.
I live near Taylor Creek, I definitely should do more walking in the nature.
    Happy New Year.

I walk almost every day but that hill is getting steeper and steeper every day 😂
Rain or shine, I am off! It reduced my obscene blood pressure to normal!

That is another good reason to walk, and I forgot to add that to the video (to lower blood pressure). Thank you Tineke.

Your list works for me also, including reducing ankle arthritis from a double post open reduction over forty years ago that saved my ability to walk. So, it helps me stay out of pain with other aging related symptoms too. 🚴‍♂️ and elliptical are other options I use, thanks Doc🙂

Thank you for this. I do enjoy walking, and love it even more walking by water preferably the beach. It always makes me feel better. I wish it was on my doorstep , but luckily it’s only a short drive away. Xxx
