I love saving and investing and living in this tiny 80 square foot apartment with dirt cheap rent has helped me save and invest so much money. I just think people only view success as someone living in a big house with a nice car and I actually think that's misleading because what it takes to succeed is often living well below your means. Hopefully this gets people excited about tiny living. 80 square feet is the legal limit for how small an apartment can be in New York City. That's my understanding anyway. Hope you guys enjoy! Very lengthy

@@donnelladams8362 do you know where I can find a place like this at?
If I could find a place that costs this inexpensive in the City- nevemind the outskirts or across the river, I’d take that. There is NO SUCH thing here in the northeast- as far as I’ve looked..and I’ve searched far and wide. The big problem now is avoiding illness without your own bathroom. You’d have to thoroughly clean it eveytime, even when you can’t hold it! Best wishes to you. I hope something good comes up. 🙏🏼
Property developers and landlords have managed to convince people that spaces like this are apartments and not just rooms with a sink.
Where is his DOOR to get IN & OUT of that Room.???
@@bypinkerton892 Hahahhah...well observed. It puzzled me for a bit after you mentioned it but I found it: the door is covered with that purple sound proof material, you can see the handle 10:21.

Thanx....
This is a room with a sink yup, bed, desk and so on lol
I'll take this. Idc
Without a kitchen and bathroom it's not an apartment, just a room for rent.
First, you don't have to justify your lifestyle to no one. Secondly, I love what you have done with your apartment. It is simple to the point and it seems to meet all of your needs.BRAVO!
It’s A CLOSET NOT AN APARTMENT!!
Honestly, I could probably deal with the small living quarters but not having a private toilet and shower is an absolute deal breaker.
Same here. I can live in a small place. But no way sharing at bathroom. Nope.
I notice he didn't show any of that.
Same I was like that's ridiculously small but I'd do it because NYC is expensive but the no private bathroom was a hell no no no especially private toilet. I'm okay with sharing a tub or shower but not a toilet 😂😂

Why do you think it’s embarrassing to live there? Sounds like a sensible choice. I would find it embarrassing to pay for things I actually couldn’t afford.
The embarrassing thing is this world does not have affordable housing. No one should be homeless or have to sacrifice space.
Agreed
@@raineyj560 I agree no one should be homeless, but, beyond that -- you get the space you can pay for! Where I live, in Ohio, rents are maybe 1/5 of what they would be in NYC, or even less. There aren't rooming houses or places with shared bathrooms, as far as I know.
i paid the same amount in Orlando and got a one bed 780 soft apt. w/ laundry room!
I lived in a similar space in Brooklyn and was also embarrassed of my living situation
The fact that you built all of that by yourself is great and you did with stuff that people just threw away...well done. 🐶🙂👍
I've always made things work on the cheap!
Bro did a great job organizing and downsizing in order to make his life as efficient as possible for that tiny place. And he's got room for two adorable dogs! Even the plant he rescued doesn't take up space, he chose wisely. Couldn't share a bathroom and shower with strangers though, but at least he isn't getting raped with his rent like other folks living in barely bigger spaces in NYC are. Good for him.
I feel I could make this work if I had my own bathroom.
Me too. I wonder how much it would add to the rent pay.

I’m too claustrophobic. My dorm room was larger than this. I do like how he’s making it work and seems very content. Guess it’s no different than living in a van.

Cruel to keep dogs in that cramped place. He said dogS. Ugh.

I wouldn’t want to live in that room during summer without air conditioning.
I've seen some tiny microwaves in Walmart that barely cost 80 bucks, u can probably fit it in there somewhere. And someone mentioned that at the head of ur bed u could put some corner shelves that wouldn't take up any of ur room.u can put 2 or 3 of them up the wall in the corner and give urself even more storage. Keep up the work and keep saving that money. It's so easy to fix stuff urself instead of paying someone else to do stuff, like u said about the faucet. Sounds like ur handy and installing some shelving will be a breeze for you. Check out the tiny microwaves at Walmart, they were like 79 bucks.
Nothing embarrassing about being resourceful! It’s great- 🎉 cozy with happy pups.

Nothing to be embarrassed about; it's a smart way to live; as long as your needs are being met.

Just one question what is the height of the room?
No need to be embarrassed. It's a movement! Tiny homes, minimalism....happy for you!

Its just crazy to me how many people love living in the city so much they are willing to live like this.
Because you don’t spend much time at home. There’s parks, libraries, beaches, museums, bars, clubs, music and much more. You need a big house in the suburbs because you spend most of your time in it. Different strokes.
Exactly. I don’t get it.
@@ripred42 You can find all these things in the suburbs too.

My first apartment used to be dorms (like back in the 60s) that were then rennovated into apartments in the 80s. The entire apartment used to be a dorm, so basically about the size of a bedroom. I wouldn't mind living there again if I ever found myself living alone. Being my very first place of my own, I have warm fuzzies thinking about it. I had a bunk bed, where the upper part was a twin size bed and the lower part was empty to leave room for a desk. Except I just used it for storage. My desk/table was one of those "breakfast in bed" trays with legs. I'd just sit on the floor and use that like a very tiny Japanese table. I had a "kitchen" which had a mini fridge (about the size of the one here). Mini stove/oven that only had 2 burners, and the oven could fit a 9X12 baking pan. And a small sink, it was the only sink, so it doubled as a bathroom sink for brushing teeth.. My "bathroom" was a toilet and shower in the corner. I rigged up a curtain to give it some privacy in case anyone was over. That was it. No closet, so I just got a little self standing clothing rack. I didn't have a TV. It didn't matter because between going to school, working, hanging out with friends; I wasn't home a whole lot other than a place to sleep, take a shower and maybe grab a bite to eat before running out to my next thing. I was still just a teenager, (I'd escaped a really BAD home life, but I won't get into that), so it was like the most awesome bedroom. Compared to where/how I was living before, having my own place was peaceful, and I felt safe. Can't put a price on that. But the rent was $280 (and not in NYC).
The idea of $385/month rent in the most expensive city in the America is unheard of. I admire how you manage to have all the essential stuff in a small place and still room for your dogs. I am happy for you. Good job.
He lives in a custodian closet. The person renting this for 385 is the genius or evil genius.

This is worth the investment to live your best life. I couldn’t do it though unless I was never there like you! The condition of bathroom alone is a deal breaker.
I am absolutely amazed that you're only paying $385.. My only real complaint is the lack of a private bathroom.

What I don’t understand is, how almost all of these New York City apartments never seem to have blinds or curtains on their windows. Where is the privacy ?

The price is actually incredible for the location.
That's what I was thinking. Downtown Manhattan is supposed to be expensive, isn't it?
I can’t understand people living in such an expensive area. His living area is the same size as my closet at my apartment in Texas, that’s not a brag it’s just me showing how much cheaper it is to live here than there.
@@garrettwilder853 I'm in STL and for what people on both coasts are paying for tiny apartments we're paying for entire houses with giant yards, and then some. The COL is just so much higher in those areas b/c everybody wants to live there. Rent is starting to go up in the midwest, too, though b/c people are starting to move here for the cheap rents. I just can't believe how much housing costs these days. It really is getting ridiculous.
@Require TheFire Yes, they also have personal bathrooms fully furnished kitchens and washer and dryers for $400 a month. I live in a college town even cheaper places than that they just aren’t furnished.
After 4.5 years in NYC I don't know how you have something, anything, for 385 per month. You can't rent a room for twice that.
This was adorable how you explain your cute little apartment in sort of a sarcastic but cool descriptive way . The closet is a main feature and your kitchen does all you need. Actually pretty adequate. You are funny and love the factual information .
Excellent video. You have done well by achieving your goals. Plus you love and take care of two critters. I am 80 years old and lived in similar circumstances to have my ceramic career. My experience has been you can figure out how to live modestly if you want something bad enough. Now I live easily and well on my monthly Social Security first in Costa Rica 2013--2019, and now in Medellin, Colombia, 2019--until now. On my Social Security I do well because every dollar in central America is worth almost $2.00 USD. I have no interest in returning to the USA at all. Thank for reminding me of my similar life in Seattle, Washington for 43 years, 1972--2015.
The most impressive part of this is that in an 80 sq. ft. apartment tour it took until 8:00 to see the two dogs 😂

As the fridge says "Nothing is ever out of reach", this definitely holds true for the apartment of that size
I could do that. :) I cook from scratch, using a single induction burner with a cast iron griddle and a 2 qt. Multi-clad Pro pan. I use an electric kettle for hot water and make pour over coffee... Minimal tools for making flatbread, great soups, everything I want. If I lived near a market, I could manage with that little fridge! I admire you for living that way! I am incredibly impressed and inspired! You and your apartment and Noodle and Katie are GREAT!!!
Ha! Thank you!
You are living in an urban tiny house. It appears like you absolutely made the most of your space and your positive attitude carries you. Good thing your dogs are small, I had images of an Old English Sheepdog in that space. I live part-time in a converted Promaster van which is smaller than your place. When I am in that space I'm often boondocking in very isolated places without any amenities, including a bathroom and running water. I do this by choice, and I find that I have everything that I need. I cart my in water and get my energy from solar panels on the van's roof. I actually use an induction hot plate, I cook using the energy from the sun! You can live in a 5000 square foot house and be miserable or an 80 square foot apartment and be happy. It is a personal choice.
Is anyone else thinking about how much more stuff he can fit in there if he added some more shelves? Believe it or not he has a bunch of unused space
It looks like a closet now...adding shelves would make it even more like a closet. Jeez. He has to have SOME open space SOMEWHERE.
A loft bed with his desk underneath would actually open that space up quite a bit
I did then I thought of how much more free room he could have if he went ultra minimalist.
ceiling is very low.
That is the first place I look, the walls, are you kidding, I could put a ton of stuff on those walls and even hang some things from the ceiling, oh yeah and get a high level bed and look at all the space under a bed, so there is places right in your face no one is using. Their are loads of many sizes of appliances for cooking, toaster ovens, coffee makers, electric skillets, mini microwave ovens, all the way across that mirror a shelf to put all of your small appliances and pack your clothes under the bed, I promise that guy a girl would have a genius set-up that a guy just does not have in their DNA, they just don't get it. The bed is 2 big, get a small twin and that is all you need to lay down on. now look at the more space you have freed up for storage. Get rid of that mirror in back of the sink, and put in more selves and use a portable folding mirror and presto more storage room.
Hey, if you get an Instantpot, you could cook everything in one pot. It’s a great alternative to a stove.
Yesss!
First of all your view is decent considering the views I’ve saw with most locations or properties and second it works you did a great job bringing it up to date love it ♥️
The thing I liked best about your space is that you’ve made room for all your hobbies - rock climbing, basketball, tennis, motorcycle riding - and your pets. You live a very full life in that small space!
Question: how often do you do laundry?

right thats the only thing that would bother me....other than that its a nice set up and money saver.
I grew up in a large family that wouldn't bother me.
@@mikkydiangelo5472 You could have bought a mini stove, where you could have coocked meals on the top‼️A toilet bucket could have done a part of the "toilet problem", if you could have lived like that, now‼️
Camper toilet. Problem solved.
In the 70's, I was fresh out of the army and looking for a roof above me. The YMCA rented out rooms, ( 120 sq. ft.), for 25.00 a month. The owner read my application and immediately offered to comp. me for the room, if I agreed to keep the keys to the entire place and let men in if they forgot their keys. Free full use of the pool, exercise rooms etc. Life was sweet, then.🇨🇦🤗
So it was fun to.stay at the YMCA?
My dorm room in college was slightly larger with 2 room mates and 3x the cost per person. Had no water in the room either and no cooking allowed - could just barely bring in a soda and could not store any food or drinks in the rooms. No pets either. Sooo . . . Just an assumption but you were much happier at the YMCA than I was at college.
Thank you for your service.
Wow!
Thanks a lot for the video! I saw some tips how to live in such a small apartment like hanging mirrors. And you are really handy!
Nice work making it look nice and the paint and flooring look great!
You're not out on the street. You have two furbabies that love you. You're not in a prison cell. You're doing much better than so many young men in today's world.
Thinking the same...but if you come from a rich parents...is might be a little different.,
Bit claustrophobic
It is not much bigger than a prison cell and a prison cell has at least a toilet in the room lol
99.9% of them are in there for a good reason, and yes there are a lot of young men incarcerated but it's a very small percentage of society. Your comment seems kinda random and almost like you've been watching too many YT videos lol, but I can tell you're coming from a good heart
That’s right. Check your privileges
Nothing embarrassing about that. That's your home. It's clean and you aren't living in the streets. You're blessed. You did a great job fixing it up.
I will be there next year.
Thanks for this video.
Very nice! Love the puppies too!
Making your OWN decisions for what is valuable in YOUR life is not embarrassing, it’s admirable. You do you. I respect that.
Exactly! Thank you!
I agree 100%!!
@@moneythoughts hey where do you find these apartments I’ve been looking for months online and found nothing under 1,200 dollars
May you share where?
I wish we had more apartments like these. That could be a solution to affordable/ temp housing especially for young people or single people etc. i mean ppl can crap on it all they want but people need places to live and I don’t see people coming up w good solutions…
exactly, we need to bring back these types of boarding rooms/houses that people can actually afford. You can complain about the "inhuman" condition all you want but its still miles ahead of being on the streets.
@@CFthorin Nonsense, we need to incentivize affordable housing that's not rat-cage sized. There are so many innovations right now in housing solutions right now- 3D printable homes, boxable homes, off grid homes, on and on.
Enough of this insanity that would lead someone to even need a solution as untenable as this.
Check out the cage people of Hong Kong.
You don't see people coming up with good solutions because developers are building luxury apartments for the wealthy!!!!
I worked two years at one of the most intense Housing Development county departments (Broward, FL), and this was the conclusion I came to after seeing all the programs. County, state and federal agencies do their best to provide affordable housing, but they fall short in numbers. If they'd decrease the size (and keep quality) of the housing options, they could help so many more citizens to be independent or at least not homeless. Primarily this could be welcomed by single people.
Thank you for sharing your cute tiny apartment, It looks like you invested your money on good quality sports equipment and the fact that you saved the plant and you have two dogs is so nice.
That’s such a great price for the location. Yeah you are sacrificing space and a bathroom but it’s livable. Can’t be fun having two dogs in there and having to hear the dogs bark would be fun.
It's not too bad.
I wish I could live in something that small. The deal breaker for me is that the bathroom is shared. Other than that, I think living in a micro apartment would be a fun challenge of one’s humility and resourcefulness.
The bathroom is the dealbreaker for most people, not me though :)
Sharing a bathroom with strangers is hard enough to do at work. I can't imagine coming home and doing the same thing. I need my own clean (or own dirty) space.
Congratulations for finding a way to live where you want, and within your means plus save for the future. That’s better than most people can say. You found a solution that works for you. Don’t worry about what others may think.
I would prefer to have a bathroom. I would have a mini fridge and small appliances for a kitchen.
Shared bathroom is a big no-no for me too. What if you get the runs in the middle of the night and the bathroom is occupied. Geez.
The fact that you have a clutter free surfaces is impressive!
ur
Awesome!You are so lucky!❤
Super smart. This is such a small sacrifice in order to save money to do great things with! NYC is great because you really only need to have confortable sleeping conditions which you obviously have! You're young AND you're making life possible in the middle of the greatest city in the world! Props bro! 🙏 For sharing your experience! Best wishes!
Thank you! my bed is so comfy, really happy with my tiny apartment!
Bro go to ikea, organize vertically, you could literally fit a couch in there. If you got a bunk bed and put your desk underneath you could move your dresser to the other side and put a couch where the dresser is. Also adding a few more shelves or a long hook rack could really give you some more freedom.
Leave his pockets alone!!!
The bed is the coach.
Or perhaps a futon would be better
You should rent a tiny apartment, do your suggestions and film it for the rest of us to critique
@@Mikesonbikes literally couldn’t be me, I’ve never lived anywhere smaller than 1,200 sq. ft
Don’t be embarrassed about this. If it works for YOU that’s all that matters. NYC is crazy expensive but a lot of people love the city and all it has to offer. Good for you for making the most out of a small space.
Gotta do what you gotta do to make it in NYC
I love that your fur babies are peeking out from under the bed.
Thank you! happy to hav a positive comment about the dogs haha
This is amazing! Are you kidding! Where are you going to live anywhere in NYC for $385 a month. That would definitely be a place that I would live and not move for a long time...
Yea, I can’t ever give this place up, even if I’m traveling for extended periods of time
I’ve slowly come to realize that I don’t so much own my junk as my junk owns me. I’m in the process of downsizing to essentials, so your approach impressed me.
Honestly, I feel ya
🤣 I have been doing that almost 5 years. Good luck with that.
This isn’t impressive
It's a great space for what you're paying in a very overpriced city.
Precisely
and a great location!
True minimalism!
Love your space very well organized and clean.
Thank you!
For such a small space you should have way more shelves above your laptop, and extra drawers on your desk. Get trunking for your tv cable and and shelves underneth the tv too.
Used to have more shelves, and chose more open space and less stuff instead of crowding with too many shelves.
Your not crazy by any means. You are a thrifty survivor, and if you and your pets are comfortably managing with your available space that is wonderful and consider yourself fortunate! 😊
VERY
For real I was thinking those pups are having a blast being so cozy under the bed lol.
For that price, including utilities AND your moments away from Time Square, yeah....I could do it. Well done young chap, well done.
The electric kettle is a must have for sure. I love mine. Use it all the time especially to speed up the cooking process when making pasta....rice.....frozen whatever. Of course nice inside the kettle......just quick boiling water to start off something on the stove. If that made sense. I wish I were there and had truck.......you would be missing that white dresser and mirror. Gorgeous piece of furniture. Good for you. Looks like you have made do with a very small space. No different than living in a dorm.....so its not that big of a shock. I live in studio and its nice having everything right there in front of you. Good luck and thanks for sharing.
Well done! And if you're happy, the dogs are happy, who cares what anyone might think? I lived in a tiny shoebox apt. about that size during a period of transition, although I had put some stuff in storage. The small space allowed: me, my guitar, my nightstand & Bible & clock-radio, nice bedding, a good closet & mini fridge, table, & chair & desk and it worked. it was very simple. It allowed me to think clearly, organize & clean in 15 min , & prioritize. I shared a bathroom outside my door in the hall & a big full kitchen down the hall as well. I had shelf space in the kitchen. Since I had a very tall deep square closet with a big door it really helped to put 3 wire shelves on the inside of the closet door with all of my cosmetics shampoo perfume & body products. I stacked large bins with clothes & had bins on the shelf above & there were several hooks in the closet so most of my stuff was in there & coats etc. It was kind of nice not having much stuff! Just a full length mirror, awesome big pillows turned my bed into a daybed-couch, and a runner rug down the middle of the place.
I'm glad I'm in my own larger space now though. It's a 400 sf studio w wood floors, large bathroom, full sz.apliances & I have it devided into 2 rooms. I'm still working on it! I got stuff out of storage & it's too much. I'm giving a lot away or maybe sell some of it.
If I was young and on my own I definitely would be happy to live in a place like that , You have it well organized and two puppy friends what more could you want. I guess a private bathroom would be nice to have
That's cheap for new york,I've seen videos of apts like that costing 900 to 1000.
Exactly, it’s a student room, enjoyable!
Yo - Great neighborhood!
I would get a port a potty. No way would I share a toilet
I would get rid of all the drawers and put wall-mounted shelves with closed boxes in this room. More floor space available.
Also a Murphy bed would be a game changer. You could also fit a shower in there in place of the sink. Put the sink within the shower and have the shower liner either pull towards the corner. You could get away with both a smaller dresser and a smaller desk that also Murphy’s onto the wall when not being used.
I love your place! So cozy.
You are amazingly handy and resourceful. You have carpentry and plumbing experience, obviously. Just amazing how you have spruced up your digs.
