They're called DAPs which stands for Digital Audio Players. People in this market that buy these players don't listen to mp3 files because of their low resolution. flac, DSD, WAV, MQA and the like are what they listen to; CD quality and above only. Phones also can't drive the headphones that they like to use (save for LG's quad DAC equipped phones that had decent amplifiers as well). If you knew, sorry to bore you. If you didn't, check it out. You'll understand why there's a market for this stuff.

Look up the Surfans F20, I’ve had mine for 2 years and still love it. It has a spinning wheel and physical buttons that are very satisfying to use. One thing to note is that it only supports up 15,000 songs no matter how large the as card. I only have a couple thousand and half of them I never listen to but I’ve heard some people say that’s not enough.

The biggest reason for most music players still existing will be enhanced sound quality, tho probably the cheaper ones aren’t as much of a jump. Also a lot of people just want to not be bothered by 5 billion notifications on their phones while listening to music, or just are tired of modern smartphone world. Tho this player running android 13 is smashing that idea a bit

As a privacy conscious person, MP3 players need to make a comeback because our phones leak so much data about us. You can't be serious. No, the phone can't do what that thing can. It's far too weak. Not enough power at all. Then there's the noise. There's a reason why that thing is so thick. If I were to plug my planars into my phone, oh, wait, most phones don't even have a headphone jack. Maybe a dongle, wait, still not powerful enough. You can't justify it because of budget constraints, cool but no, your phone is sh!t in comparison. You should go back and listen to a CD player and realize how garbage your phone is.

At a sane listening level, you don't need more than 16-bit or 24-bit as that already gets very close or just about surpasses your hearing limits. 32-bit is only useful for producing music where you want to maintain the best resolution for adding filters and effects, otherwise you're wasting storage space and money.
