    I had a 2001, 2500hd with the 6.0. I towed a 32' fifth wheel. The short bed had a 26 gallon gas tank. That was a problem at times. When I towed it over Tioga Pass, US 395 to Yosemite national park, I got a little worried. It was a great truck. My Fifth wheel was at the top of it's towing capacity, and Tioga Pass proved that to me. That trip made me buy a Duramax.

      There’s no comparison with a 6.0 and a diesel my 5.9 Cummins drags the fifth wheel better but the old 6.0 gets it done just a little slower and more frequent stops to fill up 😂

  • @wizpopr
    @wizpopr Před 2 lety +22

    The 6.0 tows just fine, especially with 4:10 gears. The problem is that it won't pass a gas station and it's darn tough to get fuel if you're towing a 42 foot fifth wheel. Most truck stop gas pumps aren't set up with enough room.

    I've got a 2019 6.0 that I tow a 5500 lb travel trailer. Does fine as far as getting you there. 5th gear at 65 is 2500 RPM getting in the low 8 mpg if there are no headwinds . If headwinds, expect 6-7 mpg.
    It's reliable and was only $30k OTD so I don't have a bunch of money sitting there losing value. Just paying at the pump...

      Everybody talks about how they won’t pull and all that and I agree there is no comparison to my 5.9 Cummins dragging the fifth wheel but I love mine just take it slow and easy never lets me down unless I don’t stop at the gas stations lol but then again I’m use to my grandfather and other family when I was younger hauling way more hay and railroad salvage with old carbureted 350s and in-line 6s, this 6.0 compared to those does just fine 😂

    • @Bloodbain88
      @Bloodbain88 Před rokem

      @@ab75901 Exactly, my square body Chevy K30 had a tired old 350 in it and I towed with it. It made it every time with total reliability. I Cummins swapped it a few years ago and yeah, that 12 valve absolutely blows the 350 out of the water at even 1/4 throttle. It's faster hauling a trailer than the 350 was empty. But the 350 did it's job and never let me down.
      I've heard guys complain about their LQ9 6.0 that makes what? 380HP? While hauling a trailer with maybe 4k pounds on it. They've never been at the bottom of a steep highway on ramp during rush hour, starting from a dead stop hauling a tractor with a slant 6 or 350 under the hood. Thrashing that engine for all it's worth to make 30-35mph by the time you have to merge.
      I would have no complaints with a good solid 6.0 gasser.

  • @myers326

    The 6.0 is as reliable as it gets and very capable . With that said I have an 08 6.0 - 09 Duramax- 18 6.0 and 22 6.6 gas . I’ve pulled 14k with both 6.0 no problem and the 6 speed is better . The 22 6.6 will eat my 6.0’s and Duramax alive towing my heaviest load which is 17,400. The truck itself is amazingly more sturdy and the power is awesome. It’s got a lot of torque management in low gears but unleashes it more in higher gears . My equipment trailer is 6000 empty and seriously tongue heavy . All my other trucks it feels like it’s gonna tear the trucks up empty but better loaded . On the 22 empty you only know it’s behind the truck on really bad bumps in the road . I’ll forever love the 6.0 though and tuning them makes them feel like a different truck

I am now a touch more comfortable with the engine revs but really don't like it. I would rather find a nice 8.1L/Alison or a Dmax just for the torque if I decide to drive from Michigan into North Carolina. My truck has 212,500 miles but runs great! so you think only the 6.0 has lots of dash lights? 🤔 If yours couldn’t pull what you claim then it must have been running on 4 cylinders. Mine pulls a 10k -12k pound load often. If it’s over that Ive got a Duramax for that.
