  • In a previous video I review a PTO quick connect product. Recently that video got the attention of PTO-Link which also makes a PTO quick connect product and they sent me one of theirs to try out. I’m always interested in products that make tractor operation easier, so I was more then willing to try it out.

I'm totally impressed with the PTO quick link. So easy to install on my Kubota L4701 and Land Pride bush hog. Can be easily removed from both and re-installed on another tractor and appropriate implement. No modification of PTO shaft required for the bush hog. Since it's so easily transferred to other tractors and implements, I went ahead and got the HD (blue) like in the video. That pretty much will cover my bases if I want to use it on another HP tractor or implement. This PTO Quick link makes it SO much easier for those of us that have a quick hitch mounted, as those of us that do, know there's little room to move around and adjust between the QH and the PTO. What was a slow, contorted, struggle, can now be accomplished in less than a minute. IMO, the PTO quick link is a liftetime investment of use.

It's hard for me to justify the cost, yet at some point that won't matter. I miss the pin style pto shaft locks. My rotory cutter has a collar and it's a bear to pull back and fight the shaft on. It's two hands just to get the collar back, otherwise it just goes sideways.

  • @brianhillis3701

Hi Brian! Interesting. I’ve always found it harder hooking up that unhooking the PTO. The collar on my brush hog PTO shaft will slide forward and backward but it only seems to release the locking ball bearings when pulled back, so I have to pull the collar back while pushing the PTO shaft on the the PTO. Thanks for watching!

Your still dealing with splines and pins. After 50 plus years on the farm if you keep pto covers on the pto if tractor equipped and keep your shaft clean it slips and locks in place like it should. Even with this system takes out spline alignment but my problem would be somehow the pin or safety pin would get stuck. If it works for you great

It can be a real nuisance hooking up PTO driven implements. I like the idea of this thing. When I'm hooking up my 6' Bush Hog it's a pain getting between the tractor and mower deck trying to work between the lift arms, and top link. What I've taken to doing is stopping the tractor about a foot or so away from the deck so i have a little more room to work, then when I have the spline engaged, I back the tractor up and hook up the three point. This PTO adaptor would make it even easier. I'll have to start saving my pennies, (nickels, dimes, and quarters) and get one of these.

I remember your first review (it was great, BTW), and now this (also excellent, of course). Like others have mentioned, I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts as to the benefits and drawbacks of one unit over the other.
You said you wanted us to tell our experiences with PTOs, so...
The last time I changed implements the PTO hookup was pretty easy, barely an inconvenience. The time before that, it took me about 20 minutes and I was ready to get something like this!!! Like others have said, though, I've held off because of the cost. They're just SO expensive for those of us who putz around on our tractors in retirement, working small acreage. I guess when it gets bad enough (with spinal stenosis, that might be sooner than later!), I'll have to bite the bullet and get one.
Thanks for the service you provide to us tractor owners/users!

My biggest complaint about hooking up things like rotary mowers is having to turn the drive shaft. It's hard to start turning, then once it is turning, it's got some inertia, so I end up overshooting the spline alignment. I think this PTO adapter would make it easier in some respects, but now instead of turning the drive shaft up to 60 degrees to get to the next alignment point, you'd have to turn it up to 90 degrees. However, the large window of the teardrop shape may make it easier to slide the spine shaft forward when it's aligned. And at least you don't have to fiddle with holding in the push-pin with your hands buried up under the PTO shaft shield.

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  Před rokem +2

I know what you mean, J.C. The inertia of implements like rotary mowers and wood chippers make it tough and frustrating. One benefit of the PTO-Link is it makes it easy to turn the PTO on the tractor (which should spin freely when disengaged). So if turning the shaft is too tough, just rotate the plate of the tractor part of the PTO-Link. Thanks for watching!

Might be a good idea to use anti sieze. This looks like an excellent product. We use tillers in poultry houses so we have to unhook as soon as we are done or else the corrosive action of the litter will rust it all together. We also always pull the pto shafts apart when we are done. We have a HX15 batwing that we strictly abuse. I wonder if this would hold up to that.

Right now I'm leaning towards the PTO link because I have a B2601 and the small size of their Compact version seems like an advantage.
Also, I now have wood chipper envy! I spent a few hours yesterday shredding brush for my compost piles, using a standalone Champion 7 Hp chipper / shredder. That’s great, Laura. If it’s any consolation, we haven’t planted our garden yet either. Hopefully we can over the weekend.

Hello. Thank you for the videos. Out of the two quick connect pto companies that you reviewed. Which one do you recommend ?

They both are good products and have their pros and cons, but I’d probably go with the PTO Link. Simpler design and lighter weight. Thanks for watching!

What is your opinion now that you have had the pto link for a year? Thanks for the video.

I like it and I am using right now with my rotary cutter. Thanks for watching!

Another nice video. I just watched your pat's easy connect video which suggested the pto shaft may need lengthening, How much length does this add to the shaft? Will it work with the Pat's quick couplers without making the OTP shaft any longer? Thank you

Thanks, Scotty! Besides making PTO hook up easier, the PTO-Link solves that problem because it extends the PTO length about 4.5” which just about matches the 4” Pats extends lift arms.

I find it very difficult to connect my PTO shaft to my PTO when I am attaching my rotary tiller. The reason is due to the limited space between the tractor and tiller.

Yep, short PTO shafts are harder to deal with that longer ones because of the tight space. The PTO Link should make that easier. Thanks for watching!

I must be mentally challenged because I have been trying to install this dang thing for over an hour and no luck or maybe because I'm a 70yr. old woman & not strong enough😅. I bought the HD version&have a little JD 990 540 rpm 40.4 hp. I got the female end installed no problem then I attached male end & when I connect shaft the collar clicks but is not secure, maybe I got the wrong version? I called the customer service number and no answer. Maybe they are closed. Will try again tomorrow. Also it is a 6 spline, 3"

It is pretty obvious in the video, that you make it look like it is difficult to connect the pto without the adaptor.
