A paper clip connected to the a and b Port on the obd connection port will give you the codes.
Not on a 1995. That works for OBD1 this is OBD1.5
Is obd1 or obd2 .The clip may work for obd1 not obf2
As I said already - this is OBD 1.5 not OBD1 and not OBD2
Oh ok. I wasn't sure
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds I normally find it funny that you pin "stupid" comments, but I don't really think this comment deserves the "pin of shame," At least not the first guy.
Hey Randy the reason that cigarette lighter / PowerPoint is up on the ceiling is for old school radar detectors.
Yep, I had one from back in the day and it didn't mount with a suction cup to your windshield wiper.. it was a big ugly looking box. It would have fit perfectly up there
Yup good old radar!!
Yep
The old cars are definitely cool that's why I started watching 👍
These cars were all around in my childhood. God i miss the good old days of simple cars. I'll take an old car over a new one any day.
I wonder if,in 25-30 years people will look back at the vehicles that are being built today and say how great and reliable they were. Probably not. Thanks for another great video Randy.
To be fair, people didn't do that for the malaise cars either.
It was more like 'it's amazing how broken they were and would still kinda drive'.
Probably needs a MAF and an IAC.
My friend's brother bought one of these cars when it was only 5 years old and he had it for 15 years👍 oh and I forgot to mention, thanks for the hood release trick and as a good rule of thumb, I would always spray the mechanical Parts under the hoods with lubricant that release the hood anytime you get a car👍
I'm not a GM guy but, I've owned two Pontiacs. Which one was a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville SE which is the last year of the body style that's shown in the video. I personally think that GM messed up when they discontinued Pontiac in 2011. I really liked Pontiac and would love to see them back in the near future.
You're right! Pontiac built great cars! And, so did Oldsmobile.
I live in a suburb of Chicago and commute downtown for work and frequently see similar Pontiacs Chevrolets Buicks and Oldsmobiles still being used daily.
I didn't see one of them on the side of the road like I did Teslas and other EVs during the recent cold snap!
Thanks to Biden we all are going to be driving those EVS not me
I own a 1994 I have 269434 miles on it and runs like a champ
I’ve loved the older Pontiacs for a while, the bonneville, Grand Prix, grand am, gto, g8 all are great looking cars imo
These cars are so comfortable when you drive with 4 adults. I mean no mercedes or italian car comes close to this kind of driving comfort.
GM's best looking line of vehicles imo. Still can't believe they dropped the line.
Randy, upper 12 volt outlet in console for radar detector on the Bonneville
Crank sensor was the issue i had on my old pontiac its under the crank pully 24:56
I had a 02 Grand Prix GT with the 3800 was my first car my grandmother gave it to me had 100k miles on it and when I sold it the car had 308k miles on it never had any trouble and everything still worked even the ac Pontiac made some awesome cars
I LOVE the 3800's! 😍
In Australia I had a Holden VN Commodore Station Wagon with the S1 Buick 3.8l V6.
Then a Holden VR Commodore Sedan with a SII Buick 3.8l V6/5-Speed.
Then a Holden VS Commodore Sedan with an Ecotec 3.8l V6/Automatic.
Then a VT S Commodore Sedan with the 3.8l Supercharged Ecotec V6. MY ALLTIME FAVOURITE!!
Then a VZ Commodore Executive Sedan with the 3.6l Alloytec V6. Nowhere near as good as the earlier V6 Engines.
I also had a Holden Commodore VK Station Wagon with a 304 Black V8 Carb Engine in it which I owned for 17 years.
ALL of the V6's I had beat it in a straight line and returned double the Fuel Economy to boot! 👍
Buick 3800 V6 for the WIN! 🏁
That white Cadillac is a Real Beauty.
We love to see old, cheap, bucket cars on the channel!❤
Saw a Fiero with a 3800 Supercharged, man was it cool.
I personally love the old beaters and watching you figuring them out. Keep it up!
My 01 Sonoma 4.3 did the exact same thing awhile back and I replaced the mafs and it does good now
Dang $600 auction fees is a lot 😲
includes delivery I believe
I had a 1994 Buick LeSabre, same issue with the OBD 1.5. Ran great, but unfortunately it was so rotted underneath it was becoming undrivable!
Try cleaning the MAF sensor.. just make sure it’s dry before installing it with whatever you use.. either actual MAF cleaner or air intake cleaner or brake clean. I know people will say not to use anything other then the proper stuff.
good advice but cleaning this one would probably not work, as the check engine light and loss of power happened at the same time, indicates an electrical failure, cleaning will help with lean mixture codes, but it takes more time for a p0171 to set
I got a 99 buick lesabre limited with 248000 miles on it it still runs like a top. I paid 150 bucks for it. Love the car.
Hey Randy I just won a 2000 Mitsubishi mirage ls coupe for $275 from copart runs and drives no issue no check engine light just needs a tune up 1 owner 94k miles with really minimal exterior damage it was an amazing deal for the way the condition the car is in
The older average daily drivers are more relatable and attainable for most of us. Once in awhile it's fun to see a newer exotic or luxury vehicle. 3800 engines run forever just like the Oldsmobile Rocket motor.
My wife had a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville with 301,000 miles before we sold it due to a bad transmission.
Like you said Randy, cant scan them with anything but a tech2 scanner people. You cant jump them. Flash sequence was removed for this year. Try tapping on the mass air flow sensor housing. If it stalls or idle fluctuates erratically replace mass air flow sensor. Unplugging it should also put it into a base table and upon acceleration those fluctuating rpms should disappear with it unplugged. You can try cleaning it but like you said notorious for going out. You can also check for a chewed or rubbed camshaft position sensor wire or wires if the previous doesnt fix it. I have a 1990 SSE pre series 1 3800 in black with the gold package and crosslace bbs style wheels. It has 259k miles on it. Basically the same motor without the plastic intake and the older Magnavox ignition which i swapped for the delphi like in this one. Car has been a champion. They just wont die. Weve owned it since 92 w/ 9k mileson it, bought from original owner(a business friend of my Dads and head accountant for PepsiCo at the time) who was moving to Germany for PepsiCo's benefit and im sure a lot more money.
I agree it’s pretty wild when it comes to the fees on insurance auction cars
I've been waiting to comment on one of your videos, it's simply blinker fluid leaking. There you go, your welcome.
Definately MAF related. Get some MAF cleaner and start there. When they get gummed up, they read all iver the place and cause the engine to act the way it's acting.
Yes. I have a 1991 Buick Regal with the 3800 v6. Fully restored and waiting for better weather to run it. I rode in a 2017 Regal. Sad to say, not good.
a paper clip connected to a and b port on the obd connection port will give you codes. The engine light will flash but you have to count how any times it flashes. example code 30
Love Pontiac! All models throughout the years and it doesn't matter the trim, just neat cars!
Amazing video Randy, i love older pontiacs!!
I’ve always wanted to get the last year Cavalier wagon and put the 3800 supercharged drivetrain in one
I have 91 Oldsmobile Cutlass ciera that did this and it was my throttle position sensor and idle air control. Hope this helps. Love seeing these older GM vehicles
Great content like always Randy and always enjoy watching all of your content. I like the old and odd ball cars that need a second chance for someone. My personal favorite content is watching you diagnosing these old cars and putting them back on the road. Keep safe and the good work up man!
Randy, I just Google a scanner for your '95 Bonneville. I found one listed on e-bay for a '82-'95 for $69.99.
those were good cars I had a 93 lesabre when my kids were young, it never gave me any problems and got great MPG for a full size car, it replaced a 1985 Lesabre that got 30 MPG on a vacation trip, I was amazed that the 93 got 36 Mpg on the same trip, and it was a much bigger car and a 3.8 the 85 had a 3.0
my daily driver is a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville sle and I love it
The scan tool I would use is a Bosch OBD 1300 CA. I have one that I use on my 1994 Buick Roadmaster Wagon. Most of the other scanners will not work and the paper clip method to get the codes will not work with 1994 and 1995 GM cars.
Hey Randy just want to thank you for this incredible video😊 🎉🎉🎉
Ive had two of the 3.8s and they both had MAF sensor issues the cat fins interiorly broke free and it finally clogged the exhaust so I straight piped it until a hs schooler brought it and drove it for years...
Of course I love old cheap reliable cars that can take me from a to b and I love old car video content, keep up the good work randy....
that car has an obd 1.5 i have the scan tool for that year an you need 12volts for it my 95 transport is the same an i use that car for the codes as its the same
100%love videos like this one 👍
Learn from all your cars you are an awesome teacher.
I bought a 2002 Grand Prix GTP! Love the platform!
2006 gxp 5.3 black on black mint alcore oem rims michilien tires $1100 Canadian as is . Did mini restore and paint touchup buff mothers wax fixed heads up cleaned lazer on cd oil undercoated changed all fluids and had inspection done . I get compliments from loads of people on this car as the car looks runs drives like new . Ps had to change rad got new one after market $199 did all brakes also
Please more old cars like that Bonneville I am getting a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria soon I love the older cars
Love the old cars. Man, those auction fees are outrageous as much as the car was.
nice to see it valeted, serviced and made good - decent American lump
Love the Pontiac… I’ve owned a few early 2000s Grand Prix s and they were great.
On another note, would love to see a 2002-2007 Toyota Sequoia during a walk around if you see one, even better if you’d bring on to the channel.
Thanks for the content, love this channel.
Power point up on the ceiling for when the one on the dash brakes. The interiors fell apart on these. But great engine and transmission.
I brought a 99 last year for 1k, 120k on it, looks brand new inside & out. It's my daily/work car 😁
our 97 Buick gave us the same issue and it righted out after we changed the cat convertor and coil
Love this good old car man,if i was there i would buy it and give him some love.
Apreciate you give a second chance to this cars, they deserve, imo is a good first teen car,ac,good space, reliable.
I have 2 impalas with 3800's. The one is a SS i dropped a series III 3800 with a gen V supercharger in it. Them engines will not die.
The beauty of the OBD1 system is you don't need a scanner, just a paper clip and you can read all the codes. Very convenient.
This is not OBD1. This is 1995 - OBD 1.5 wich a clip nor scanner work on. You need a specific 1995 tool for these.
@@AutoAuctionRebuildsThe Bosch OBD 1300 works for my 1994 Buick.
Thanks! Love watching your content and learning from you Randy. Hope to learn more from you to work on my vehicles. Stay safe and keep up the awesome work!
Thank you so much man. I appreciate it.
Oh man I have a lot of catching up to do. This is what we love to see on the channel!
Awesome car! I had a 2000 Regal with same motor. I want another one at some point.
Randy. I enjoy seeing the older cars on your channel .
Great car and video😀🔥
Die Hard 3800, always worth saving if the frame's not rotted out.
My mother still has the rare one with supercharger and overhead display. Was one of the best cars made.
i love them the frame bushing rusted out on mine
I always enjoy seeing the older cars!
2013 i purchased a 1998 Bonneville beautiful car it dropped dead in the middle of a major highway. Pontiac used a slightly different system looks the same as the Lesabre but it is not.
The SSEI was the best of the bunch.
Gotta love those front seats.😅
The money light is on 21:00 😢
I currently have a 98 with 85k miles runs like a dream
GM Tech 1 scan tool I think is what you need for that model year
Those GM's of that platform are great cars!
Comfortable, reliable, cheap transportation.
What more could you ask for?
Even for $1200 it's still a smoking deal!
I wonder if it could be a chewed wire causing a problem.
My stepfather had one of these. I remember virtually everything feature wise was broken but the cat still drove. I believe it's Denise was transmission failure around 210K miles.
With this car with the initial check you are doing, I would put in premium gas ONLY to help with injector cleaning, as well as helping to get the best possible engine response.
I've had many of the GM3800 cars, mostly gen 2 with a couple gen 1 and 1 or 2 gen 3. The best one I ever bought was a supercharged 2000 Buick Park Avenue Ulta. I got it in 2004 with 66k on the clock and then put a little over 300k more on it. Original engine, transmission and supercharger with no rebuilding done only any of those three items. I did not keep it garaged and WI winters eventually took their toll on the car. It was governed at 112 mph, but I only took it that high to see how fast it would go.
Hey randy the squeaking noise is the rubber hood adjusters especially the one under hood by wipers usually round rubber , just needs some lube on them
The power point located above your head was for hooking up a radar detector.
I had a 92 Bonneville SE with the same wheels, nice ride.
Fantastic buy! Can't beat a 3800 series 2. I wouldn't even sell it. I use it daily and save on miles on you're newer rides. You'll figure out the power loss issue. I think I's the chewed fuel ejector wires.
Hey Randy, the squeak you heard while driving was probably the speedometer cable. It either needs to be lubricated or replaced.
does not have a cable, it is electronic
Ramdy and enjoy watching the old classic cars
I love those cheap cars! Enjoyed this one.
Love the old 90's stuff
Buddy had an SSEi and that was a sweet ride for a high schooler!
I had a similar problem with my 2000 Buick Ultra, but it would either clear up quickly or die quickly. If it died, it would run fine again after sitting for 10 minutes. It showed a cylinder misfire. I cleared the codes and switched the coil pack for that cylinder pair and the cylinder followed the coil pack. Bought a coil pack at the junk yard and never had that problem again on that car.
Extremely rare vehicle, can't remember the last time I saw one.
lmao what? These and the grand prix of same era are everywhere where I live
That proves your 10 mile drive is a pretty good test. Nice car tho!
it acts like a fuel pressure problem but the fuel pump can not turn on the CE light instantly, so an airflow sensor would be my best guess, throttle position sensors can do that but usually give you more warning, idle speed will be too high or low, does not seem ignition related, so check that wiring harness for hungry mouse damage and throw an airflow sensor in if you can not find a scanner, it will be hard to find a scanner for that, I do not even have one, and I have 300,000 dollars in tools, but I am shur you could borrow one that is what I do
When it was cold ran fine when it got worm stalling and no start when it cools down fine when its worm bad time
A 94 Bonnie SSE started my thing for Pontiacs. Moved on to a 02 SSEi, 05 Bonnie GXP with the Northstar (massive torque steer), 06 GTO and currently 09 G8 GXP (#738).
Hey Randy, I absolutely love the variety of vehicles, you bring to the channel! That is part of the reason that you are hands-down, one of the best, if not the best automotive channels on you tube. Included in that variety are some older ones as well and that’s great but to go back to exclusively older cheaper vehicles would be a huge mistake. That being said for $600 that seems like a steal of a deal for 1200 maybe not so much! I didn’t even write. Thank you so much for the post would never miss one you’re the best!
Love the blue visor on the windshield from this era. Bring that back
That would be great to see old cars.
My oldest brother was a Mechanicl Engineer for GM for over 40 years with Allison Transmission he always said GM V6's would go forever you could burn them up but never blow up. Mom had a 95 Century Limited she bought new she quit driving last year and gave it to a young couple just starting out 164000 miles on it with oil changes every 3000 miles as far as I know it's still going strong
I knew someone who had one of these but a higher model. Loss of power while driving etc. similar. It was the throttle body for them. Not sure if it's the same here. But just thought I'd chime in. :)
We have a 93 bonneville with 75000 miles on it
I always want a Bonneville. They're great cars
Camshaft position sensor/throttle position sensor. MAF won't cause it to suddenly big but then run fine subsequently unless there is a wiring problem.
good point, we did see some wires that were chewed on mice can be a pest on cars, I put a battery in a prius could not get the gas engine to start, no way to charge the big battery, turned out to be a mouse chewed the trans wiring harness, got it going just before that new 2,000 dollar battery went dead
They have the intake gasket go out it did on my grand am.the Anti freeze leaks out of the block because there damn plastic connectors you we replace them with metal ones.
