I'm never buying a bike from that dealership if they let people redline the bikes during test rides before it was broken in 🤣

Upgrading to a bagger this week. Local choices are challenger dark horse icon, road glide st and street glide st. All three have like 10 miles on them, either slip ons or 2 into 1, bars, intakes and tunes. All three similar grey colors. Obviously the challenger beats them performance wise and even price wise. It's about $8k cheaper even with stage 1 and bars. Has a better infotainment system, water cooled and only being a 108ci makes the most HP and TQ, they're stupid fast and with fox shox and inverted front forks it handles amazing. But I'm a Harley guy. Even tho M8 don't sound great stock they do sound better than the challenger. Road glides look better in my opinion. I'm not trying to race around a track. And with the road glide st already being stage 1 and having bars all built into the price that's probably the way I'll go. I can upgrade suspension later. Plus the ST come with solo seats so I have yet another excuse to never have a passenger. Lol

Considering right now, the Special is only $2k less than this bike, but $7k more than the Standard, it comes down to the overall bike one wants. The Stander cones with the 107 and is all chrome. Power coat starts adding up fast and engine work is expensive. You'll hit the $7k mark before you add the suspension. Suspension for this bike, Kraus bars, a seat, you're already at $6k extra and no engine work.
So, my opinion is, Performance Baggers are expensive and the ST gets you closer than the others considering what upgrades still need to be made.
No matter what route you choose, a Performance Bagger is going to be touching the $40k mark. Just totaled my SG, so I'm on the the next project, a RG ST.

I think they came out with this bike to go after the performance bagger crowd. I was a tad disappointed that it didn't come with upside down forks and Ohlins standard on it. So to me it's a RG with a few styling cues.

100% true. And I think because of that, it truly does narrow down the crowd for the bike even more

Absolutely agree. I just picked one up, knowing that I'd immediately have to begin changing things. I don't know how Harley expected anyone to actually demo this bike and like it. For me, I knew the potential that it has and I was willing to spend the extra $ and put in the time to "get it right". So, I changed the bars to moto bars with kickback riser, new Corbin seat, Bassani 2:1 pipes, Legends suspension front and back, ThunderMax tuner and several other small basic items like: seat nut in the rear fender to anchor a 2 up seat (cost: $2,48), KlockWerks 14" sport screen. Now the bike is comfortable and worth while, but I was willing to spend extra to make it right. I don't know that it was a "smart" purchase, but his could be my last bike, so I'm not looking back.

For the coin, this bike shouldn’t NEED anything to make it a performance machine. Imo. Unfortunately, the leadership at Harley Davidson is all about style over performance so f course it needs an extra $5-10k to make it a legitimate performance bagger. Suspension is probably the biggest miss from what I’ve read. That said, I still want one, 🤷🏻‍♂️
