      I have some of the better papers you mentioned but have not really used them enough to say. I bought lots of supplies but that alone hasn't improved my skills. I'm going to sign up for your courses.

      @@SuburbanDon Only lots and lots of practice will improve skills! It's still nice to have those higher quality papers and supplies for later when you feel more confident. It's also good motivation to improve!

      @@SuburbanDonyou could spend a million dollars on supply's and it's Not going to improve your skills. The only way to improve is to put the time in, like door a drawing a day, and a page of shapes. Keep drawing and keep smiling and havea great day ya'll.

    You have to try the Hahnemuhle Dessin 150 gsm. by far my favorite for graphite,color pencils and Red chalk/Sepia etc. It feels like the nest quality paper, the moment you draw the first line! Then, for the longest life, 100% cotton paper, is the Arches Hot Pressed, that also use for graphite pencil drawing. For Charcoal or Polychromos,I also use Fabriano Artistico Hot Pressed.

      Thanks for the recommendation - 've tried the Fabriano Artistico but not the Hahnemuhle Dessin!

    Also, paper stumps, must be prepaered the same way you clean them, (using sandpaper) I use a medium 400 and finish it with 1000 or 1500 grit. That being said, the only ones, that don't leave a myddy/dirty look when blending graphite, are the older "Conte a Paris"! The new ones are not as bad, as the non brand ones, but they are neither as good, as the old stock Conte a Paris. You can still finsd those in local shops, they old ones have thicker red color letters on them, while the new ones, the letters are way thiner. On the on the old ones,the paper is also closer to a cream tone, while the new are more white. HUGE difference on how much better these work! No other brand comes close.

      Thanks for the advice. Agree there are some terrible non brand ones out there that make a mess. I find the rolled tortillon style better than the tight compressed ones but thats probably in part because they are made by an artist brand so the materials will be better quality. I'll keep the Conte a Paris ones in mind just incase I ever come across some!

      Just start drawing and keep practicing. Find a course that starts from scratch. I have a free course here on CZcams: czcams.com/video/ing1x95WZ_I/video.html Or find any other channel that starts right from the basics and follow it through. Thats the only way to improve :)

    I haven't seen you use this kind of paper. Why do some people use graph paper and others don't?

    • @ThePencilRoomOnline
      @ThePencilRoomOnline  Před 8 měsíci

      By graph paper do you mean when people draw a grid with pencil first? Printed graphic paper is usually only used for geometric drawing as far as I know.
