- ‘We Knew Matt Talbot’ is the story of the life of Matt Talbot (1856 - 1925) through the eyes of people who knew him.
Matt Talbot, the saintly Dublin working-man, who died in 1925, is a vague and shadowy figure for most of us. But the men and women who lived and worked and prayed beside him in the Dublin of those days remember him as a striking and lovable personality.
Anecdotes illustrate his piety and charity, and the places that were important in his life namely his home, his work and the church.
He lived on Rutland Street, worked in the docklands and went to the Jesuit Church in Gardiner Street.
Included is an interview with Seán T. Ó Ceallaigh, who was President of Ireland from 1945 to 1959. Workmates, neighbours, friends and acquaintances also provide their memories of Matt.
‘We Knew Matt Talbot’ was produced by Radharc for RTÉ and was broadcast on 25 March 1964. The programme was narrated by Rev. Peter Lemass and produced by Rev. Joseph Dunn. - Zábava
What saintly man!! Matt Talbot pray for us.
He inspired the founding of the Talbot Association which has helped many people over the years.
I was wondering about that. In Sydney there is the Matthew Talbot hostel for men.
Likewise there is one in Seattle, passed it by when on holidays there last year.
Blessed Matt Talbot, pray for us.
A very blessed man ! ❤ Matt remember me and all our families ❤.
Beautiful, powerful. Thank you for putting this video together.
Venerable Matt Talbot, pray for Ireland, pray for us.
Matt Talbot pray for Ireland.
Idiot, read a Bible and you'll learn the know nothing.
I sense this mans faith was increasing everyday, nothing to do with mental illness, he was provided with the strength to pray and keep praying, and one thing is for sure, not a single prayer would have been in vain, this story really encouraged me, there are none like this man around anymore.
Bowing down before an idol I doubt his faith was in God Most High nor High Priest Lord Yeshua King snd Saviour of all mankind. Formost The Catholic religion. Actully The Lord preach against religion.
Just beautiful. Thank you.
A fascinating, humble & spiritual man who left a tremendous legacy. He had so little but gave to anyone he could help. Gone almost 100 yrs, yet I know there were many detoxes, rehabs & retreat centers named after him here in the USA (particularly NYC). I read when he passed he had cords & chains around his legs (a form of penance?). Don't know if he took the 'Pioneers Pledge' but I remember my mom telling me she took it as a kid in Ireland & God bless her, kept it till her death last year. I hope to bring some of her ashes back this summer & stop by his grave in Dublin. Thanks for the upload!
Thank you for this video on a wonderful Irish saint of the 20th century. We don't have too many of them of late it is sad to say...
Mat Talbot, pray for me.
incredible fellow, really.
I have worked in the welfare sector in different capacities since the 1980's in Sydney (Australia).
There is a very well-known hostel for homeless and disadvantaged people in the inner city, named Matthew Talbot Hostel.
I had no idea from where the name originated, until now.
Very interesting. Thanks.
A good fellow
Matt Talbot has now received the reward of his life for all eternity from the Eternal Father.
Matt Talbot pray for me and mine
🙏
poor man
I am sure he found personal reward through his devotions and piety though I would neither aspire to his way of life or be inspired by him . Even for the times and the inner city poverty of Dublin he was an extreme case of self denial . There is anecdotal evidence that when laid out the funeral directors found him enveloped in chains beneath his clothes to heighten his temporal suffering no doubt .

Good owl matt
Good sleep is important. I feel sorry for the guy
No need. He had great faith, lived it and is now with God or almost there....

Not if you were living in inner city abject poverty .
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. Bring back rickets and smallpox.
Dry bread?
As Eamonn Mac Thomais Quoted..What would them Foreign Saints Antony Peter and paul know about been idle in Dublin,Matt knew what it was like to be idle,to be late, locked out,Lose a Half days pay,be out Sick ,and get nothing for it……Look after me Mother Matt 🙏
He lived through the 1916 rebellion and 1920s independence + civil war . No mention in any docu , about it , did it effect him in anyway or was he oblivious to it all .

There is anecdotal evidence to this effect . Found enveloped in them at the funeral parlour .
@@richardshiggins704he was not "enveloped" in them.
Very strange even for the times .
His life sounds absolutely miserable. Poor auld Matty.
What miracles were attributed to him
He changed Guinness into water .

😅😂
Wasn't there as something about him being allergic to cats, and that he kept a kitten in his pocket and sniffed it as penance?
There was, after he did that his head used to inflate up like a balloon.
That kind of practice is not required for loving, obeying, and worshipping God, but Matthew seems like a very spiritual man. I would've loved to talk to him about God and Jesus and the Bible
@@Lee-nh5bb
You can talk to him
That was your ma
The Blessed matty hislop 😅
THE Dead can not and does not pray! Lord Yeshua teaches us not to communicate with the dead especislly the spiritually dead
Traitors one and all.
Grim, what a wasted life
He was determined to get close to God. Better than the age of vice and pride we have now. So maybe, he didn't have that much of a wasted life..
Well done you for being able to judge him. You must be quite a human being. You"d probably say the same thing about Jesus of Nazareth.
Each of us has to ask the question of ourselves: am I wasting my life?
Vice and Pride has always been with us my friend@@kingofcelts
I would indeed
