The Audiolingual method has zero evidence backing its claims and has been rejected by scholars worldwide. Reciting grammatical phrases does not lead to language acquisition or linguistic competence. Also, those in the field of applied linguistics know that the learners' mother tongue should be used in class when learning if possible. According to Cai and Cook (2015) "...the debate has now progressed beyond the question of whether to allow own-language use to how much, how and in what circumstances." Translation? We all know native language should be used. The issue now is how much and how often. But to say there should be no native language use is wrong and there is scientific research to back up why.
