I was taught in pharmacy school that you verify the patient's information.....you did your job the correct way ms. love. That FACILITY needs to be reported, because they could actually harm the wrong patient with the incorrect medication.
That’s exactly correct 🙌🏾
@@PharmacyTechLove they probably wanted to get rid of you. i use to work there too. i'll report them to the board of pharmacy because ALL the district managers stick together.
This frustrates me.. I’m a new Pharmacy Technician (loving a lot of the job!), and my company would NEVER not verify anything. You have to! Not only for safety, but if you gave a, for example, Victoria Secret’s medication to a different Victoria, and the information, that’s a big HIPPA violation.. There’s no way the company you worked for will stay afloat for long. Not unless they changed a lot of their protocols.
That is asinine. Confirming ID is crucial to delivering any form of health care. That place should be shut down.
I’ve been a hospital rx tech for 15+ years, you don’t cut corners in healthcare. If you see something wrong, you say something or call the state board of rx if it gets to that point
Im glad you didn't lose your license or ended up having to go to court
God was on my side 🙏🏽
So sorry to hear that! Thank you for the advice for future pharmacy technician !
It’s was an old job from 5 years ago
You are a smart woman. You deserve a better job than that!!
I thought so too 🤷🏽♀️❤️
This is the craziest I've ever heard! I kno exactly what ur talking about because I've been in pharmacy for 2 years. At my job those verifications are a MUST. I hate that happened to you. But that was just God's way of pulling you out of that situation and opening Bigger and Better doors for you. Im a new subscriber thanks to Beloveslife. I'll be tuning in a lot. Be blessed 🙂
Aww 😍 Thank you!
I’ve been working retail pharmacy for 16 years. You verify the patients info for every patient every time!! Why the heck wouldn’t you?!?!
I just didn’t understand that myself lol
I been working 20 years In pharmacy and this sounds fishy. If you have a license you know it’s pharmacy law. Verify the patient for all drugs. It’s a liability
@@PharmacyTechLove That’s why you ask questions and you go through training!!
First of all as a pharmacy tech you should know pharmacy rules and regulations, I dont care what a pharmacist says I'm still going to verify the patients info. So even though they told you not to verify by law you should have reported them to state board of pharmacy. So you were wrong for not verifying that patient info.
I agree with everything you’re saying ❤️ However, I couldn’t change their policies and procedures. The only other option was for me to quit. I think back on those days and I wish I had.
@@PharmacyTechLove
Did you end up reporting them?
sorry to hear that sis, you are amazing sis, thanks for sharing sis, see you soon and take care
It sounds like something suspect was going on at that pharmacy. I would've still asked the customer for the information. To keep from putting the customer in danger. I'm glad you didn't let that stop you from being great. 🤷🏾♀️
Thank you 😊 I pray for continuing growth in your life. ❤️

I'm studying to be a Pharmacy Tech, and reading over my PTCB notes verification is important. You never, ever cut corners so this establishment honestly I would report them.
I definitely agree 100%
You are amazing:)
Victoria’s secrets:)
“Are we going by hair color?!” Omg!
The new way to verify identification is to ask them to take the meds right in front of you with a glass of water.
If course, I'm kidding. You go by lipstick color.
lol
you are inspiring me. I am living at Florida. I will start my program next year after I get my GED. thank you very much.
Jenny
Thanks 🙏🏽
Thanks for sharing. Working in the medical field is always stressful especially in pharmacy. Pharmacy techs really do get screwed off when it comes to pay for the amount of work they have they do.
I think they’re trying to do better with the pay. One thing that I’ve learned is that you can’t stay stagnant. if one job doesn’t pay you the amount that you want to be paid, start applying for other jobs. There’s companies online that will pay you what you’re worth, but make sure that you gain other certifications alongside your Pharmacy technician certification. And you’re so welcome ❤️❤️
I haven't ever heard of such a thing in my life. You always, always verify the personal information with the patient, even if they've been getting it filled there for years every time. I would file a complaint with the state board of pharmacy. They will send a representative to investigate.

I worked as a pharmacist for Walgreens many years ago. I was a floater and could not get a nearby store to give me a full time position. I was sent to a different location every time with a one day notice. I couldn’t stand every minute of this factory job and finally resigned after having an almost fatal collision coming home from a Walgreens far from home after a big snow storm.
Omggg!! I’m so glad you made it safely.
thanks for the heads up.
Most definitely 🥰
I am a pharmacy tech in Australia and we are never allowed to not verify patients before giving out their meds. We are taught that we are the interaction before patients go home abd take their meds so we have a responsibility to ensure they have the right meds and instruction.
You guys are following protocol, that’s amazing 🤩
It's really interesting see the life of a tech in the US compared to Australia. Thankyou for your content . 🏥💊💉🩹🥼
I just started as a Pharmacy Tech Trainee 9 months ago. I had a pt p/u med one day & there were not 1, not 2 but 3 ppl with the same first & last name! We ask last name to retrieve rx's then verify phone and/or/in addition to address & depending on pt DOBwhen ringing them out. Idk how long they were patients, but I took ot upon myself to ask for a middle initial or middle name bc the ladies knew of each other (they were all around same age & went to school together from what I was told). We typically do 200-250 rx's a day. In the fall & winter we do 300-400/daily, sometimes more. We are a small town with around 3,000ppl living in it. Typically we only having 1 tech overlap, having 2 techs, from 12-5. And 1 Pharmacist working (only 2 Pharmacists are employed & alter days). I've come to recognize patients when they come in, I still verify info though. There are still 2 pts that I know of (cant remember bame, but remember Pharmacist pointing it out) with the same 1st & last name that I need to change. When we are busy & there's only 1 tech working, it's easier to grab a rx by looking through names than try & open leaflet & verify other info bc when you bring say more than what they are picking up bc you don't know which 1 they are & they see the extra, they want to know what it is for. Having a BA in Criminal Justice, I am always worried about the whole HIPPA thing bc of the ramifications that could/would happen so I always try my best to be on top of everything & if I don't recognize a pt as a "regular" & cant understand them, I will verify DOB then name before retrieving script. I go a little more overboard than my fellow techs I work with, but it's my job that's on the line if I don't make sure I cross all the bases.
Just always make sure you get three identifiers. Name, date of birth and address. If they have a controlled narcotic please make sure you get their identification.
They said they KNOW their patients...nd sold the WRONG meds! That's ABSURD that they did NO verification!
I found it hilarious myself!
At least at minimum you need the date of birth.
Exactly CORRECT!
You did RIGHT !!! Nuff said 👍
😆😆
Agreed. Report this to the Attorney General
I should’ve!
Why not report them now? Someone from an authority can come in and observe this practice and at very least put them on notice that this is unacceptable. This will clear your conscience and the authorities can do what they may.
What the world kind of pharmacy is that hunny. 😬😬😬 made me cringe.
Ikr lol
Oooooh no baby been a tech 5.5 years and I will always verify all information!
Definitely!!
I’m surprised you didn’t report them. I would have made a report on the first day. It is negligent not to verify patient information. I would have put my foot down and make them fire me for doing the right thing.
I definitely agree!
Sounds like you moved from Walgreens to CVS because this is the EXACT same experience I had too!!!! Went from getting used to verifying patient information from Walgreens to being told "we don't do that here" at CVS by CUSTOMERS and EMPLOYEES. It's gross.
Wow!! That’s sad!
Would age work? Unless for some weird, jaw dropping coincidence atleast two of them are the same age. Maybe a middle name would work then? I'm just guessing here since you can't do date of birth, address or phone number to verify.
Also, yay! I was mentioned :3 Thank you for answering my question.
The only way the system without verification would work is with a picture. But you have to ask something or ID them.
Exactly sis!!
Not in the pharm tech field but i do agree with you on being able to distinguish the patients 😀 bc if you dont then you are violating hippa. Seems like the job was just lenient and good thing you left bc i woudnt want to work wt a place i have to play mind games when it comes to determing thr pts.
I agree completely🙌🏾🙌🏾
I work in a state where ID isn't required for narcotics. We use addresses/phone number/DoB to verify patient who is picking up. I wonder if there might have been some miscommunication here. But I've also had my company install a Pharmacy Manager without a formal interview. So...🤷🤷
Just know, I will NEVER do that again. Now, anything I don’t feel comfortable with, I let it be known and so should you. We’re here to protect our patients ❤️
From the beginning, you should have call the board of pharmacy and report that pharmacy. You should have get some money when the inspector see that everything you reported was correct.
You are absolutely correct 🎈
New sub here...Here's the thing...I have never nor would I work for a pharmacy that conducts themselves in that manner. Seriously!! That makes absolutely no sense....Knowing that different people can have the same first and last name....why the 🤬 would you NOT verify dob and addy...🤯
Exactly ❤️❤️
Thanks for subscribing ❤️❤️
@@PharmacyTechLove no problem...I've been a tech for 6.5 years and its nice to hear other tech's stories and also to learn new things. Keep coming with the technician vids
My Pharmacy (large chain) made a huge mistake last week and gave me the wrong medication, that was ment for another person with the same exact name. It was an injectable pen (insulin). The Pharmacy Tech did not check the name, address, and phone number on all the bags. I was prescribed steriods, so honestly for a minute I thought I had been prescribed injectable steriods. I don't know medicine, so I had no idea if that was typicial. My husband who works in the medical field, looked into the medication on his phone and discovered it was insulin. The pharmacy refunded us. But I feel like that is a big mix-up. If no one had realized it was insulin and I had just followed the Pharmacy's instructions, I could very well be dead. Giving insulin or other diabetes medications to someone without diabetes can be deadly. How does a computer system not have a safeguard to warn a tech that they have rung up medications for one name with 2 different address and 2 different birthdates? What if the diabetes medication had been a pill form like Metformin, that's less noticeable?
That’s a human error. All information should be verified at all times. I’m so sorry this happened to you.
Career change: 🤔I would like to be trained as a pharmacy technician. Previously Worked as a dental assistant for 16 years and 💯 enjoyed it. Any road map suggestions for pharmacy tech in Texas? Do NOT become a pharmacy tech 🤣😂
I’ve been a tech for only 3 and a half years and I’m in the peak of just giving up. I’m definitely going for a career change. Starting college again in Jan 2020
@@DeltaHero787 Why not?
Thanks for sharing ❤
You are so welcome! Thank you so much for visiting my channel.
That's crazy I took the pharmacy tech course but never worked as a pharmacy tech but even I know you have to verify birthdate even when I fill a script they always ask my birthdate I would have asked the head pharmacist
Correct!!
I was reading comments when someone asked who to report to and you said just put in a 2 week notice due to retaliation. However, couldn't you report to the State Board of Pharmacy? Would there be retaliation? Can you submit an anonymous claim?
You can definitely submit an anonymous claim.
Any time I get medicine, they ask for my date of birth every time but not phone number nor address. That seems wrong they wouldn't at least verify date of birth
You’re exactly correct! We didn’t even verify any information on controlled narcotics.
Did you report this employer to the state pharmacy board?
I really should’ve but my mind at the time was so focused on taking care of my daughter.
Great Video
Thank you, I really appreciate that.
YOU NEED TO VERTIFY PHONE ADDRESS AND DATE OF BIRTH GURL YOU ARE RIGHT LOVE YOUR PAGE
I had never heard anything like it until I worked there. I knew it was wrong too.
This is scary! A liability and very unprofessional ..
I agree!!
We are the first hired and the first fired. Malcolm X
You’re right!
I had a patient who gave me a prescription and refused to give consent for us to keep his record in the system, and his address as well. That person had a doctor title. I returned their script and said good luck with finding another pharmacy, which can do that for them. It's just illegal. So, it's not only about the pahrmacies, it's also about the people and their expectations.
That’s very true!
Wow thats just wong in so many ways. My first day of training, they taught me to verify all this info, esp if its a controlled drug. Cannot even think of giving wrong meds to patients, esp there is a lot of seniors who trusts us and would not even check if they are taking the right med. They shud be 100% reported, cuz thats just risking too many lives at that point.
I agree 💯 percent!
FYI please ask your doctor about wearing circulation sock because i got a blood clot and unfortunately i couldn't return to pharmacy work unless i work from home. My old job, we didn't have seats for the technicians only pharmacist because she was pregnant.
Thanks for the information and concern, I really appreciate that.
We can distinguish with doctor names and medications prescribed but I don't want to do that so I ask for their name, DOB, & phone number EVERYTIME. Even if they've been customers for years.
Exactly! That’s what we should be doing.
That’s a big no no that company can get in trouble by the state board.
That’s exactly right!
Do you know if someone can reapply for their pharmacy technician license after it was revoked in California?
You would need to contact California State Board of Pharmacy (916) 518-3100
They fired you for them messing up. That was how they solved the problem in their mind. And isn't the Pharmacist suppose to check the medication before and explain it to the patient before it is given to the patient/customer? So that should not have been your fault right?
I should have never been at that pharmacy, it was very outdated. It was one of those pharmacies that still had a computer system where the background of the screen was black and when you input information the lettering was green 🙄🙄🤦🏾♀️
@@PharmacyTechLove they were to fire the pharmacist too. i used to work there and unfortunately people of color was an issue.
This is my first video of yours I got a question how do I know wether being a pharmacy tech is right for me or not?
The only thing that I can tell you to do is jump right in. The best way to really know, is to go into retail. Retail is going to make or break you.
I’d report that pharmacy to your local state pharmacy board that’s not right......you must verify patients info....you were right they were not....congrats on your new job...
I agree.
Exactly. I am intern and was verifying under tech supervision for every patient. And I even saw how tech greeted their old customer for example hi Victoria how are you? This is your drug, can you verify the address? You see??? Still the same even if tech knew patient by heart.

That is ridiculous you should Always verify information idc if it is pharmacy or not I am a front service clerk at Publix and one of the things I do is take the curbside orders to the car and I always verify the name and car because don’t want to give the costumer the wrong order
I agree completely!!
hi love... i'm a new pharmacy tech in denver moving to ft worth this summer. would it be best that i leave the retail side or get straight into a hospital.. I'm also a prn LPN????
Well, it all depends on if you like working with the public. If you do I would say stay, if you don’t I would try something different.
Are you still teaching? I'm needing help learning POS or insurance.
I would report them because they are going to end up killing someone. They are going against guidelines
I agree completely. When they fired me I didn’t argue about it because it took so much stress off of me. And I knew that they were not doing the right thing.
At my pharm we have to ask 4 questions before we hand out the meds. Ppl complain that we look like police officers and we do look like them bc we made mistakes and we are taking this at the next level.I said say thanks god I am not asking you your shoe size and your grandma maiden name ,but if you piss me off I will ask this too,You want your meds you better answer all my questions, lol,
😂🤣😂🤣
I completely understand what you are saying. no disrespect against Walgreens but its the people that train you. always listen to your ppl/ manager. The reason being is theses people are used to working (THIER WAY) and that's not the right way. I can say tho, people tend to ring people up with not charging bags and give them a bag. I charge the customer a bag because if HR wants to go on the cam and see if i charged the customer for a bag and I didn't I'm the only one to blame. So when people tell me do it this way and do not tell manager i just say ok but , i don't listen to them, I follow the Walgreens policy. It sucks and I'm sorry you went through this. You should complain to HR Corporate and tell them your situation. You seemed that you did great at your job, best wishes to you girl
Hi there! It wasn’t Walgreens, the Walgreens way was the correct way.
Thats your fault. They have an ethics line. Should have reported them. Its not about you not following your employers preference its about you not holding up the ethics that you were trained to do. Is it not part of pharm tech training those must be checked??
I am well aware sir, thank you for pointing that out.
In cvs computers you’re required to put in their first and last name and date of birth to even pull them up in the computer and if it’s a control you have to scan an ID and we don’t it’s against the law here
As it should be ❤️
@@PharmacyTechLove gotta know them laws lol or else you’ll be in big trouble, I’ve heard of pharmacists trying to get techs fired by making them do things outside of law or policy 😬
That’s a scary situation to be in.
I couldn’t take my eyes off your shirt. Can you verify where you got it from? :)
Omg, I can’t remember. Sorry lol
@3:20 girl that so was legal... I would have stopped her and said NO!! I have to verify my patients and their information. Same thing while working in a nursing home. I might had a relationship built with them. But just like the wrist bands on them I still need for them to verify who they are. that covers me if someone else makes a mistake. and its part of the 7 rules of administering medication!!
I agree completely! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I did that to two of the people that had the same last name different spelling and I got written up because it was hippy so after that I made sure I asked the 3 critical questions to give patients their meds

And it’s absolutely cool to want to try something different! That’s how you grow.
Lo Lo’s!!!! Omg! I miss this place so much !
I absolutely loved it!!! 🥰🙌🏾
If given the chance, what would you have done differently in that situation? If a pharmacy tech is faced in a similar situation what should they do? Is there someone that you can report the facility to?
Hmm...that’s a good question. In my years of working I’ve learned that when you report someone there’s always going to be retaliation (always). The best things to do is give a two weeks notice after you’ve found another job.
@@PharmacyTechLove Unfortunately its the reality that we live in. Thanks for responding and sharing your experience!
I would turn in my resignation if I were a Pharmacy Tech, if I were a tech the hard work I put in would not be risked at an employer that did not value patient safety. I would not put a patient's life at risk, by not doing what I would know to be thr right thing. I would not put my freedom at risk by being negligent and risking negligent homicide charges for a patient's death. On Friday a tech gave me an injectable pen that was insulin because they did not check the address, phone number, and birthdate on all the bags. Had my husband who is in the medical field not noticed I could be dead.

And you are absolutely right ‼️
What's a good school for pharmacy tech
It just depends on your location, in all honesty the training should be universal.
Must verify.....
Oh I see a possible lawsuit getting ready to happen. The system is suppose to red flag a potential conflict (same name or drugs). Just think a patient who was prescribed Lasix is now getting prednisone. This is a potential death sentence ma'am. you can potentially lose your license and also face criminal charges because YOU are a licensed professional.
Exactly my thoughts!
Sounds like that pharmacist had a chopping block bigger than their head…. No respect for technicians
I have a lot of respect for pharmacists, I can’t speak bad on them. They’ve spent a lot of money on their education.
What kind of pharmacy was this?
It was retail. It was very a very difficult setting to work in.
Not verifying pt information you could kill someone by giving them the wrong medication and be held criminally liablefor that.
