    I appreciate you. I also worked for Walgreens for years back in the day and the insurance was something I was very fearful of when I started as a tech. But after about a couple of years, it wasn’t too bad. I’ve been teaching pharmacy for the past 16 years and it gives me joy sharing what I know with students. You can always tell when people have a passion for what they do; and you, Pharmacy Tech Love, fall into that category. Keep doing what you do. 🙌

      Insurances scare me as well. staff doesnt have spare time to train me so i dont touch insurance type issues. I usually hand it to someone who is more experienced..

    I love watching your videos. I’ve been a tech for 3 years now. I love it. It does get very frustrating at times though because I still have a very hard time understanding the insurance because I hadn’t had a lot of practice up until this year. But this helped a lot. Thank you so much.

    Another great helpful video. Starting as a new Pharmacy technician soon and learning/ hearing about all the horror stories about insurance and billing scared me for a bit, but you give some great additional tips and things to consider to make it less disastrous. Keep up the good work!

If possible for your next video is how to calculate any kind of insulin like figure out how much to dispense or day supply, I know that might be a lot, but that is another one of my issues.       Retail is rough! I started with Walgreens! Are you still hanging in there? :) I’m doing LTC work from home data entry now and I wouldn’t change it for anything! I do still work at Walgreens on the weekends

    Often times when you get drug not covered it actually is covered you just have to find the right ndc. I don't know why but each drug has a million different manufacturers and each one has a different ndc.

    The problem is that no one wants to train anyone properly in this career. That has been my experience anyway.

    I passed my PTCE in July and I am really trying to get into the hospital or mail order pharmacy. I'm working in an independent retail pharmacy now and I think some things may be a little different than working in a chain pharmacy. I really don't like working in retail pharmacy.

      Hospital and retail are definitely opposite. But don’t be discouraged you can make the transition.

    Do you have show proof to the state board that you have a certain amount of hours to to the ptcb test/ to become licensed?

      Yes you do. Once you apply to take your PTCB exam you will be required to submit that application to your boss. And your boss has to sign off on your 500 hours.

    Hi Tech Love! I just started training as well as a technician at work publix pharmacy. Is it possible to show on the computer how to enter the information step by step. For example the patient is dropping off their prescription, how to process this step.

      Unfortunately I no longer work in the retail setting so I won’t be able to show you that step by step. However, I will try to reach out to a few managers/friends to see if they will allow me to come into the pharmacy to dl that. If you don’t see a video on that then the answer was no.

      Hello there. For me I like the hospital setting better because it’s more laid-back. However, starting out as a pharmacy technician the retail really helps me to pass my PTCB exam.

      That I’m not sure of because I’m not sure if other countries have the same insurance programs as American. Example: Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield…etc.

    Question! I am definitely confused when it comes to insurance. Say a patient has IEHP/Medical. Is IEHP the primary insurance in this case and Medical secondary? Does this just mean Medical has contracted with IEHP as a health insurance provider? Thank you!

      Hi there! If you’re discussing pharmacy billing, we don’t bill their medical insurance cards. We only bill their prescription card.

      That all depends on the insurance that they have, some people have what is called a donut hole. Make sure you look up that particular word and do your research.

    I’ve had my pharmacist tell me that not all dur have to be reviewed by them, I can just take a look and solve the issue, for example patient name mismatch ? Is that something that is permissible? A little confused . Anyone else have this issue?

      For me I don’t want the responsibility. I would rather the pharmacist take a look at it since they have went to school for just that.

    So say a patient comes in and they don’t have a “prescription card” but they have a.. say a Medicaid card, how do you go about getting meds billed to their insurance?

      There’s no other way unless they have their insurance companies phone number. We can then call and retrieve that information.

      Hey there, don’t be intimidated because you’re 45. What if age was never even invented, you would never even think about your age. If you’re fearful that you won’t know or need to update your skills on a computer. Just get on CZcams and watch a couple of videos. There’s always refresher courses on how to learn computer software. You will be great.
